Deaf institute does good cheap food. The burgers are good! You can get a yellow card which saves discount and is VERY cheap to buy from the bar - well worth getting.. Reasonable. It has a good atmosphere as it is a bit different from being an old theatre with some of the original features. It has a student night... More

I last ate there years ago which now seems rather crazy. Their burger is very nice and the location at the Deaf Institute is ideal.

I go here with colleagues for lunch regularly. The service is very good if very informal, although last time I went it was 'sir' instead of the usual 'mate'. The clientele is a mix of students and academics I would say. The food is very consistent and very good. The burgers are excellent although the buns (brioche buns) can be... More

Are the staff at this establishment visually impaired? Or just rude? The bar is often 2/3 people deep and the female server for example with the nose piercing seems to think it's her "night out" chatting and giggling to other colleagues at the side of the bar, which twice resulted in her pouring the wrong drinks while people are standing... My girlfriend and I called here for a drink intending to go somewhere else for a meal before going to a concert at the RNCM. It's in a lovely old building and has a nice, friendly atmosphere - it's mainly frequented by students but we 'oldies' didn't feel out of place or uncomfortable at all. The beer was great and... We attend quite a lot of gigs in Manchester but I have to say that without doubt the Deaf Institute has to be our favourite. It's just the right size (close enough to acts but big enough for a good atmosphere) & has a great atmosphere and staff. Good selection of food & drink. Would highly recommend seeing an artist... First visit last week to see James Walsh what a place this is. Got there about 5.30ish fairly steady with a few drinkers and early eaters. Décor is funky. Grabbed a table and friendly staff got us drinks.. Great choice of cocktails which tasted dam good. Missed out on getting a zombie on happy hour by choosing a blackberry mojito... More

This is a really nice bar and place to eat, the staff are friendly, the food and choice of drinks is great, the atmosphere is welcoming and all this situated in a very interesting building with quirky decor which works just perfectly. I'd recommend it to everyone.

When I originally bought tickets to view example at the death institute I imagined a club that could hold a couple of thousand, not a couple of hundred, so to my surprise when we walked in the club I could stand at the back of the room and still see the expressions on the singers face. For the evening we... More

Read the reviews on Trip advisor and headed over with high expectations. Much smaller and not so atmospheric as its parent in the Northern quarter but service and food quality did not disappoint the pork and crackling melted in the mouth and the roast beef was lean and tasty, gorgeous!
