Good food for a great venue

The music venue here is superb - I am always happy when a band I want to see is playing here. And whilst it's pretty basic fare (burgers and fries only) it's great to have somewhere comfortable and interesting to have a bite and a drink beforehand. Be happy if you are coming for a gig.

Not worth £8.50... Looking for a nice meal on a Sunday night with a friend, we passed the Trof and decided to try it. The bar staff were incredibly slow, our meal took an incredible 50 minutes to arrive even though there was only one other table sitting in the venue. Most of the chicken burger was lettuce, a stick... More

My 2nd visit to the Deaf Institute for a gig and it's a great informal intimate gig venue. Sat and had drinks with friends in the downstairs bar. Prices okay. Staff decent and a nice enough mix of drinks options. Makes for a nice evening.

Looking for a bite to eat whilst waiting to see a concert at the RNCM we passed the Trof and decided to try. The bar staff were slow, the meal took 40 mins to arrive, the pulled pork was sparse and not very tasty but the chips were like sticks. We had to use fingers as couldn't get fork into... More

We weren't intending to eat here, but it was getting near the time of our gig so thought we'd try it out. The beer was excellent, a couple of nice cask ales ... but we had to wait over an hour for our burgers and ended up missing the first support act. That said, the blonde lady with the nose... More

Deaf institute does good cheap food. The burgers are good! You can get a yellow card which saves discount and is VERY cheap to buy from the bar - well worth getting.. Reasonable. It has a good atmosphere as it is a bit different from being an old theatre with some of the original features. It has a student night... More

I last ate there years ago which now seems rather crazy. Their burger is very nice and the location at the Deaf Institute is ideal.

I go here with colleagues for lunch regularly. The service is very good if very informal, although last time I went it was 'sir' instead of the usual 'mate'. The clientele is a mix of students and academics I would say. The food is very consistent and very good. The burgers are excellent although the buns (brioche buns) can be... More

Are the staff at this establishment visually impaired? Or just rude? The bar is often 2/3 people deep and the female server for example with the nose piercing seems to think it's her "night out" chatting and giggling to other colleagues at the side of the bar, which twice resulted in her pouring the wrong drinks while people are standing...
