Enjoyable without being exceptional

There is a good range of food on the menu - typically only one dish per meat, but plenty of different meats (a couple of steak options and then venison, lamb, veal, duck, halibut etc), plus some dishes we saw being served which we couldn't see in the menu, such as mussels and burgers! The halibut... read more

We went here because of the outstanding reviews. I couldn't fault the service but the food was sadly lacking. I had black pudding to start which was bland, uninteresting and a tiny portion. I followed this with the chef's special rack of lamb; this turned out to be 2 lamb chops on a bed of lentils. According to the BBC... More

We visited in a reasonable sized group in January. The restaurant was reasonably busy but the staff were needlessly aggressive at one of our party arriving late. The menu was good, and the steak I had was very well cooked. It needed a little more variation though, there was only one veggie option - which was bland. Nice ambience. I... More

We visited TNQ at lunchtime one Friday. Yes it wasn't busy but there were enough people there to make the atmosphere pleasant. The staff were very pleasant and efficient and our food was lovely. The rib eye steak was one of the best I have tasted and the hake was equally delicious. It isn't cheap but definitely worth it. I... More

We walked in to TNQ on a cold, wet Thursday in January at 6.20pm. Unsurprisingly, the place was two thirds empty. "Could we have a table for two?" I enquired breezily. "Have you booked?" enquired the irony-free deadpan waitress. I confessed, shame-facedly, that I had not. She went away to consult an important document, whilst my partner and I, dripping... More

Just had Sunday roast here with some friends, and we all said that it was very good quality for such a reasonable price. The roast potatoes were amazing and the sticky toffee pudding was out of this world!! We also liked that we didn't feel rushed for the table at all, even though it was a busy Sunday. We'll definitely... More

We were visiting a friend who recently moved to Manchester from London and she booked us in here for Sunday lunch. It was fantastic, the meat was delicious, roast potatoes some of the best I've ever had, a good selection of veg and they provided an excellent amount of gravy! The sticky toffee desert was delicious. Really nice relaxed atmosphere... More
