Sweet Mandarin stands out on the Manchester restaurant scene for its vibrant, cosmopolitan atmosphere, modern Chinese menu and killer cocktails. Located in the chic Design House on Copperas Street, the award-winning restaurant is based on a simple philosophy: quick service, delicious pan Asian cooking and value for money. Whether you're in the mood for a memorable meal in the minimalist dining room, or after-work cocktails, celeb-spotting and Chinese tapas in the bar – this is the place for you. Working in a theatrical exhibition kitchen, the high-energy chefs use Mandarin style woks and traditional techniques to prepare classic dishes such as beef with sweet peppers and black bean sauce; Shanghai vegetables with garlic and chilli sauce; and General Tse's sweet and sour chicken

A buzzy take on the classics delivered exceptionally well

I've been waiting for Sweet Mandarin to become easier to book, but it seems that the hype just doesn't die down. Recently managing to snag a table on a Saturday evening, I can see why. if you like to get super sweet food, this is definitely the place for you. even our beverages was having a layer of sugar at the bottom. apart from the food and water being way too sweet which constantly reminding me of diabetes, the food has got way too much starch on it. sticky and starchy - not quite sure... Read the contradictory reviews but went with an open mind. Expectations high though, after all this is the 'best Chinese restaurant in Manchester'.Menu had variety of set meal/ banquet options that made ordering easier, dull course choices though. Chicken and sweet corn soup that had no chicken- none whatsoever and even less flavour, comparable to the most basic takeaway version... More

We went as a group of 25 on Sunday 22nd Feb, after seeing the CNY celebration in Chinatown, only 5 minutes walk from there. We went because of the restaurant book launch 'Dim Sum', we all got signed copy by the lovely 'Helen and Lisa Tse', authors and proprietors of Sweet Mandarin. Then we stay for evening din dins. The... More

Booked a table for the late sitting, turned up at 8:45, then had the pleasure of standing in the doorway while being completely ignored by all the staff. After 15 minutes, no-one had been over to greet us, or to explain the wait, or to offer us a drink at the bar. So I left and took my money elsewhere.... More

We met my brother here recently and had a great evening! The place was packed but the staff were so attentive and polite and the food was AMAZING! We had lobster and noodles (which was divine!), Cantonese fillet beef (which was melt in the mouth delicious) An aubergine dish (which was perfectly cooked, not soggy at all) and a veggie... More

Food: We has the banquet which was £20 per head. Although we got a lot of food I didn't feel that the quality was amazing as the chicken & sweetcorn soup and the meat platter were the same as you might buy in a supermarket or at a restaurant.

We went to this restaurant because one person in our group has Coeliac Disease and is therefore very wheat intolerant. Many Chinese sauces are thickened with wheat flour as are most soy sauces so to find a restaurant that advertised a gluten-free menu was an opportunity not to be missed. On arrival, the restaurant seemed a little cramped and dark... More

It was Valentine's Day and my date had been a few years ago and said the food was amazing so I had high hopes for this restaraunt. I had seen good reviews and heard that Gordon Ramsey had endorsed it. Even when I walked in, the restaurant was really busy, nicely decorated for the occasion and the food looked nice.... More

Had a lovely meal with my fiancé, starters were fine, maybe throw a rib on for the £7.50 per person! Mains were lovely, sweet and sour chicken in the basket was really nice, as was the volcano beef, nice relaxed atmosphere. Defiantly recommend. Thanks
