Sweet Mandarin stands out on the Manchester restaurant scene for its vibrant, cosmopolitan atmosphere, modern Chinese menu and killer cocktails. Located in the chic Design House on Copperas Street, the award-winning restaurant is based on a simple philosophy: quick service, delicious pan Asian cooking and value for money. Whether you're in the mood for a memorable meal in the minimalist dining room, or after-work cocktails, celeb-spotting and Chinese tapas in the bar – this is the place for you. Working in a theatrical exhibition kitchen, the high-energy chefs use Mandarin style woks and traditional techniques to prepare classic dishes such as beef with sweet peppers and black bean sauce; Shanghai vegetables with garlic and chilli sauce; and General Tse's sweet and sour chicken

Started off Shakey but they pulled through!

Visited with my girlfriend and her parents and liked the 'casual' approach mentioned on the website and dressed appropriately and felt suitably dressed when I arrived. The starters were just ok, the dim sums were raved about from the mother in law and she knows her dim sums but not up my street... read more

Went on a friend's recommendation. Half empty on a Sunday night. Only had two staff on. Average starters, little/no prawn in the sesame prawn toast. Slow to clear plates. Mains were very nice but again, very slow to clear. Called the waitress over to ask for the bill, was greeted with 'Yes?'. Poor customer service and 10% service charge added... More

This was my first trip to Sweet Mandarin and I was suitably impressed with the welcome and the manner in which they made our visit special. As Lisa and Helen had catered for Prime Ministers, it was only to be expected that the menu choices, while wholeheartedly Chinese, would include the unique touches of the Tse sisters and be cooked... We had a lovely evening at Sweet Mandarin. A warm welcome and atmosphere accompanied great home cooked food that had been passed down the family for generations. A return visit will definitley be made ☺

We went on a Saturday for a nice family meal out. As soon as we entered, the waitress with the red hair had a face on when she saw us and was muttering to the other old waitress. This made us feel VERY uncomfortable. She tried to seat us at the back of the restaurant whilst screaming and shouting at... More

I spent a year living in China so feel that I'm quite well versed in Chinese food, and I can say with no doubt whatsoever that this is the best and most authentic Chinese food I've had outside of China. So many dishes on the menu took me back to eating in China and I felt spoiled for choice. We... More

Food was reasonably priced and tasted good. The decor is a little dated but your not going to check up on the decoration. Didn't like the bloke coming round with a camera, felt like they were desperate for additional money! Food good, environment needs updated.

Excellent little restaurant! Me and my partner visit once a month for a date night. Top quality food in a relaxed atmosphere with very friendly staff. The salt and pepper wings are delightful. We normally get the Cantonese style fillet steak with various sides and share as it is plenty for us.

We have been wanting to try this place for a while, but won't be going back. First, a waiter showed up with a camera asking to take our picture, if it was a special occasion, which was slightly weird. Then our shared starter, at £7.50 each was poor. Frozen vegetable spring rolls were still frozen when they arrived on our... More
