Description: Sweet Mandarin stands out on the Manchester restaurant scene for its vibrant, cosmopolitan atmosphere, modern Chinese menu and killer cocktails. Located in the chic Design House on Copperas Street, the award-winning restaurant is based on a simple philosophy: quick service, delicious pan Asian cooking and value for money. Whether you're in the mood for a memorable meal in the minimalist dining room, or after-work cocktails, celeb-spotting and Chinese tapas in the bar – this is the place for you. Working in a theatrical exhibition kitchen, the high-energy chefs use Mandarin style woks and traditional techniques to prepare classic dishes such as beef with sweet peppers and black bean sauce; Shanghai vegetables with garlic and chilli sauce; and General Tse's sweet and sour chicken

The owners who are charming work in the restaurant. The food is fabulous, good value and top quality. We had a party of 12, no problem splitting the bill, food was served in good time, just great. Looking forward to returning as soon as we can. Worth traveling to Manchester just to eat here.

... but still a definite cut above. Interesting / different dishes are excellent although more 'typical' ones are not really worthy of the extra cost. Good service and comfortable etc

Ate here on a Sunday night after seeing the place busy on the Saturday. Food was good but not very good hence the average rating. The place seems to really love itself as shown by the 200 page menu which probably explains the place being busy the previous night. Prices were decent and portions were very good so no complaints... We went on Sunday and had a very nice meal, we gad the Gordon Ramsey Menu and enjoyed it very much, it's not you traditional Chinese more of what you imagine home cooking to taste like. Only let down was there was cleaning up going on while the restaurant was open ie sweeping floors etc and the toilets were a... More

Absolutely filthy!glasses had chilli flakes stuck to its side. We have to return plates several times, one of the plates ACTUALLY had a piece of old vegetable on it! Waitress split sauce on the floor when she cleared the table & didnt notice. We have the claypot chicken & Garlic pak choy which both tasted the same & very bland.... More

Food was great, staff were too busy to bother to give customer service (a member of staff sat chatting to customers and ignored that nobody was taking our order, so had to go ask to be served!). Not sure whether the food is worth the apathy of the staff.

I can absolutely see why Gordon Ramsay loved Sweet Mandarin so much. What is lovely about it is that it isn't greasy or stodgy, like so much other Chinese food can be. The spring rolls were perfectly golden and delicious. The crispy chilli beef was beautifully fragrant and lightly sweet - a rarity to get that one right. The crispy... More

Just love the food here, if you are looking for great chinese food that is fresh and tasty then look no further! We often visit here for a full banquet and are never disappointed with the quality, it really is just what you want from a chinese restaurant. The service is great too, with very friendly and attentive staff that... More

After living many years in Australia and traveling a lot to China, one thing I can proudly say is that I can tell a good Chinese dish. This placed exceeded my expectation and I left happy. We tried the Peking duck, one of my favourite dishes. This was not as good as my star restaurant in Sydney (called Hingara) but... More

We discovered this place purely by chance whilst in Manchester for 2 days (17th-18th July). The tourism guide in our hotel mentioned it and the fact that it had a gluten-free menu available made us determined to try it. We arrived about half an hour after they had opened. We did not have a reservation but this didn't seem to... More
