Sweet Mandarin stands out on the Manchester restaurant scene for its vibrant, cosmopolitan atmosphere, modern Chinese menu and killer cocktails. Located in the chic Design House on Copperas Street, the award-winning restaurant is based on a simple philosophy: quick service, delicious pan Asian cooking and value for money. Whether you're in the mood for a memorable meal in the minimalist dining room, or after-work cocktails, celeb-spotting and Chinese tapas in the bar – this is the place for you. Working in a theatrical exhibition kitchen, the high-energy chefs use Mandarin style woks and traditional techniques to prepare classic dishes such as beef with sweet peppers and black bean sauce; Shanghai vegetables with garlic and chilli sauce; and General Tse's sweet and sour chicken

Food was average. The waitress who served us was rude and don't expect complimentary drinks at the end of your meal. We had a large party of people and spend alot on drinks would have thought they would have give us a brandy or Bailey's at the end. One more thing sticky carpets!

I had read reviews in the news about this restaurant and thought I'd give it a try. We felt rushed. Only one wine option was offered. The crab starter was mostly shell with very little crab meat. The main menu included King Prawn dishes and prawn dishes. I don't like King Prawns so chose 'prawns'. These were King Prawns and... More

We found this fantastic GF Chinese restaurant in trip advisor and booked vie their web site and what a treat the whole experience was from start to finish. The choice of GF food was outstanding and the flavours were superb, the whole experience was excellent. If you are GF or not give this restaurant a miss on your peril -... More

Went here on Saturday night and it was dead, which says it all. Both my husband and I are veggies, so perhaps that's why our food was average. The spring rolls starters were undercooked and the pastry was soggy inside, they were also pretty bland and the cabbage had an awful texture. The main meals again were just average and... More

We enoyed our meal - our starters were delicious, I had dumplings, my husband prawn toast. Then I had sweet and sour chicken, which was very tasty, and my husband had duck, which he enjoyed. The house wine was nice, too. The service was prompt and friendly but not intrusive. I can recommend this restaurant and it's better than other... More

We visited early on a Saturday and a steady stream of customers were coming in. Staff were friendly in the main and catered for our little one. We had salt and chilli squid which was gorgeous and the prawn crackers were much nicer than take away. Side dishes like fried rice are a little expensive but you do get a... More

Visited this restaurant a few weeks ago. The service was unfriendly, no smiles or small talk and we were not asked at any point if our food was okay. Our starter of duck pancakes was served while we were still eating prawn crackers with dips so the table was overcrowded. The diced spring onion was dried out so must have... More

Pat Jupe and I went with our son stephen and his wife Debby for his birthday. It was our second visit but Stephen and Debby go regular. From walking in and a lovely greeting to attentive service. The food was great. First class starters and wonderful main courses for each of us. Debby has a garlic intolerance which was catered... More
