Do not go! Sadly the restaurant has closed down. A sign perhaps of difficult times. Cafe Med in the Market is still open, though. July 2014

Yes Cafe Med has closed. Since my cancer it has been increasingly more difficult to work the long hours. Further ill health on top of that made it impossible. Thankyou to our many loyal customers. More

Fantastic meal here again at cafe med. Lovely staff, always friendly! Had garlic mushrooms with garlic bread to start, even added cheese as we requested (this wasnt the choice on the menu) then I had the salmon special, it was delicious! Getting hungry just thinking about it now! Only came to 45 pounds for two starters, two mains, a side... More

Pretty much the same as our last trip. Great food, lovely people, reasonable prices. Just get someone in to pep up the interior design a bit. Someone with an eye for colour/texture/lighting. That'll get the 5 stars. Great for food before theatre.

Took my mum here last night after seeing good things on social media about it. The decor is very rustique and quaint. We liked the relaxed atmosphere and by 8.30, was just us two and Steve (owner / cook) We were debating which would be the spiciest option for the prawns to start and Steve suggested he cooked them differently... Had a lovely family meal this evening, the food was excellent the service was second to none they was so welcoming. I am vegetarian and they made me a fresh to order vegetarian lasagne and other family had sea bass the quality was amazing. All in all it was an amazing experience I would reckon to my family and friends.

Visited earlier this year with a friend.. They seem a bit complacent to me, although friendly and welcoming. We ordered garlic bread to share while waiting for our table (but there were only us and one more couple in there..) we were not given extra plates so had to use a napkin, which was drenched, because it was that greasy.... I do not recall your visit though your comments do warrant a reply. First of all our garlic bread is made fresh to order. This involves slicing the ciabatta then coating in butter & garlic followed by baking in the oven. My Catalan fish stew is also made fresh to order as is the chowder sauce. We NEVER buy ready... I have visited this restaurant 3 times. The first time (in 2013) I was impressed and happy. The second time (new year period end 2013) had a lovely meal but whilst finishing our main meal, what seemed like an acquaintance of the manger, came in with around 15 of her friends and plugged her ipod in to the stereo and... I appreciate your comments & have taken them on board. Regarding the vegetarian meal I must state that as we do not buy in any pre prepared meals, they have to be cooked from scratch using ingredients that we have available at the time, so my apologies if it was sub standard. I feel I must point out that you... More

After visiting cafe med when it was originally in the market and always being pleased we thought we would try the restaurant. With mixed reviews from friends we went anyway. We were greeted by the owner who got us some drinks (these seemed a little overpriced for this type of restaurant-4.50 for a spirit and mixer) we sat down and... More

Had a meal here to celebrate some friends birthday who one year ago had a good night here so we were expecting good things. Many things disappointed, extra starters were added to the bill that we had not had. Waited half an hour to hear vegetarian options, they ended up with a pepper with a bit of cheese and a... More

A friend and I visited here and found it really wonderful. The host is a really nice chap who was there to look after us. My friend wanted something not quite on the menu - this wasn't a problem and was sorted. This is a small family restaurant and wasn't very expensive. The bill was £51 - we were stuffed... More
