Nine of us went for a meal on 15 Jan 2015 during "The Sultan Hour" available Sunday to Thursday, 5pm until 6.30pm, for £9.95. The food was nice, served in a relaxed, atomosphere by friendly and obliging staff who ensured that more rice was served if needed. Alcoholic drinks are not served, but this did not detract from the overall... More

I went to the sultan for a meal last night with my family (9 people in total). I had been here before but a very long time ago. The service was excellent and the staff friendly and chatty. We ordered off the pre 6.30pm menu which is popadoms, a main course, and a choice of rice or naan bread (unless... More

A wonderful looking restaurant from the outside and even better on the inside. The starters were great, all cooked to perfection. The main curry dishes we're all really authentic and great tasting. Service was excellent. Not the greatest desserts, but that's usually the case at most Indian restaurants. Overall a very good place for food.

What a wonderful welcome, atmosphere and experience. The food was fresh, tasty and quickly delivered. The Lassi mango was a delight. I requested my dish less spice, one of my companions asked for very spicy, nothing was too much trouble. They also offer alternative foods on the menu. Cannot wait to go again.

I've eaten a lot of Indians in my time. I didn't care about the no alcohol policy and to be honest if you can't go for a meal without alcohol maybe that's your problem rather than theirs. However, the food just wasn't that great at all and it is also the most expensive Indian me I've had. The madras, chicken... More

As a child I was taken to this building in its guise as a Methodist Chapel. It's been a restaurant for 25+ years. Great conversion job. Short but authentic menu, fresh, well spiced. Staff are friendly. No alcohol, not sure if that's a Methodist covenant or the fact it's Muslim run. It doesn't detract because there is lots of authentic... More

Called in here with 5 friends on the off chance and we were able to get a table. Knew beforehand there was no alcohol so that wasn't a surprise. The food was very nice and plenty of it. Friendly staff and a nice place overall. Would definitely go back.

It is rare to find a curry restaurant where the food is prepared from fresh spices and not from precooked sauce. Look no further. Everything is fresh here, which is wonderful. The menu is excellent catering for meat eaters and vegetarians alike, and the dishes available are sumptuous and appealing, with spiciness and heat, or otherwise, clearly shown. Our meal... More

Ordered a takeaway from here this week - have to say it was really poor tasting, the naan bread was burnt, the curry was swimming with oil and really just didn't taste right. On top of that they charge over the odds, probably the most expensive indian takeaway I've paid for, they should realise that others will include a sundry... More
