Originally a wine cellar, so there are 3 arched dining areas, with soft lighting, soft music and perfectly placed tables and chairs. Waiting staff are happy, welcoming and they produce fabulous food at very reasonable prices. Bottle wine, dinner for 2 £25!!! Wonderful!!!

We chanced upon this wonderful pub/restaurant just because there was shelter outside from the rain, (we could have gone back to the hotel we had booked across the road but chose not to - but that's another review). The Merchants' building looks as though its underground and the rooms inside are arched with curved ceilings. It was originally a wine... More

Drawn to this pub, whilst staying across the road, by the number of people sitting outside.Friendly welcome, good pub food, good beer, a very enjoyable experience.

Excellent food, friendly service (though a bit slow), and good cider on the tap. Well worth the visit.

Finally, on our fourth trip to Lancaster - staying at The Royal Kings Arms, directly opposite - we managed to try "Merchants". So glad we did. We had 3 separate visits - once for a much needed afternoon thirst quencher, once for lunch and once for dinner. Spot on every time. The beers are excellent (my husband only tried the... More

A pub with atmosphere, and a beer garden. The bar serves some very good choice of fine ales and the food is served quickly. Sunday lunch was very good - the beef actually was 'real' beef, and the wild boar steak on sweet potato mash was lovely. Well worth the visit.

Called in advance of our visit to make a booking for seating, as a few in our group would need it. Told very politely over the phone to see what was available on the day. When we arrived at the empty establishment a very pretentious, little man, behind the bar (who was apparently in charge) rudely told us that "groups"... More

A group of us came for the pie festival . They had a great choice of ales and some interestingpies to offer. The jerk chicken pie was really nice , the pork with honey and ginger one that my friend and partner had looked nice and they enjoyed it. Definitely worth trying out next year again
