Quirky and intimate.

A beautiful, quirky, underground bar serving very good food and drinks. Many locally produced or made using local produce. Caterered well for gluten intolerance. Even had a great bread! Friendly and helpful staff.

Wonderful day out followed by an afternoon of indulgence at this gorgeous restaurant. We ate from both the regular menu as well as the specials and both items were super delicious. Atmosphere was like nothing else, it's a shame they don't play up to the historic past more as I'd love to know more. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Only... More

Hi Benji Thanks for the great review. To answer your question the pub was a old wine merchant's cellar from the late 1600s until the 1800s when it was bought by a local manufacturing firm and the vaulted stone cellars were bricked up. They were rediscovered in the 1980s and the pub was built within building. We're glad you liked... More

Near the train station and city centre, this is a restaurant and bar with lots of character. The food is mainly traditional (with vegetarian options), which suited my companions. Service is friendly and efficient, even allowing one adult with a small appetite to select from the children's menu! The cooking and the ingredients are first class. Vaulted ceilings and a... More

I visited the Merchants with a few friends for a bit of lunch after the castle tour (also worth doing!). Great selection of drinks and a strong food menu - I went for the hotpot which was fantastic. Someone else got the pie which also looked great although I didn't get to try it. The service was spot on. Fast,... More

What a super gem this is - on the way from the City centre to the train station and one not to be missed. Historical interior with the vaults being the main feature and although they do a lot of food I did not feel out of place simply having a beer at the bar. There is a small patio... More

Was attending the Morecambe v AFC Wimbledon match and rather than head straight into Morecambe I arranged to meet friends here for a few pre-match beers. Tucked away in a basement of a large old building its a really nice cellar bar. Straight away when you walk into the bar you are greeted to the sight of half a dozen... More

In town on my own on business for a few days. This was indeed a cosy place. Its undercroft atmosphere is welcoming and comfortable. Its ales are fine (Broomstick bitter particularly recommended). The menu is gastro pub but well grounded. The wine list is limited but the rioja I had, available by the glass, was smooth and characterful and went... More
