Tucked in to a cellar at the bottom of the road to the castle, this would be easy to miss. I dropped in on the off chance as I had an hour over lunchtime to wait for my train (station 5mins gentle walk). Friendly staff and good beer. Chose a risotto with some trepidation,as pub risotto can be awful, but... More

Visited a year ago and was very impressed so returned this year during my annual visit. Service was very poor (didn't look understaffed0, waited 10 minutes before drinks order. When the starters arrived mine came 5 minutes after the other 4, all the starters were great. The mains weren't so good. The fish and chips looked super, the rabbit leg... More

Absolutely love this place - so much character - nice outdoor area too. The wine is absolutely delicious and the food is also very good and the menu is nicely varied. Will definitely become our local

We visited on a Monday evening, there is a special offer of main course and bottle of wine for £28 which you can upgrade if necessary. There were four of us and the service was very good, the menu was interesting and varied our only complaint was that one dish (chicken) was very dry and my own dish (lamb) should... More

Had a great night, wonderful food, really fantastic quaint little venue with a friendly environment and fantastic service from all the staff especially Luke! We ate far too much and will suffer for it but it was all delicious and absolutely worth it! If you're I'm Lancaster try it out, you won't regret it.

I like lamb, probably my favourite meat, and one of my biggest gripes is the 'thin band saw from frozen bone in' offering that almost seems universal with leg of lamb steaks.Deep joy when I stumbled upon the real deal.A proper locally sourced and fresh (not pre frozen) leg of lamb steak (£12.50) the best part of an inch thick,no bone, beautifully cooked... Myself and two friends visited the restaurant after asking locals where they would recommend. The atmosphere of the place was grand, a beautiful place with a relaxing atmosphere. We was seated quickly and was informed of ordering the food at the bar. I felt when ordering at the bar it was rather scatty, though as a bar manager I understand... More

Just returned from Merchants and really enjoyed their Sunday Roast. The portion was a bit large for me but the meal was perfect. Will return and definitely recommend it!
