Service was great, food was lovely. Overall great experience. It wasn't cheap but you pay for quality. But for 2 of us to have a 3 course meal and 4 drinks it cost 80 which was well worth the cost. (The bread and butter pudding is amazing)

We have had three meals here in the last week. The staff are so good special thanks to the Waitress from Brazil !. Congratulations to the marvelous Chef who pulls out all the stops to make the food exceptional food is on the same level as The Chapel House Atherstone. On a Thursday evening we'd had to book online for a relatively early slot, and the bar was buzzing when we arrived to be ushered into the (then) empty restaurant room. But although this room soon filled up the service remained attentive, well-informed and friendly. All the food we ordered was superbly presented and delicious - particular mention for the... More

Even the Monday lunchtime that we called in was busy for this ex-pub which is a pleasant restaurant with excellent food. Service was prompt, pleasant and efficient and our food was excellent. We chose fish, which is a specialty despite the Midlands country location and were very impressed. It has a nice ambiance but might feel a bit crowded if... More

Interesting gastropub in prettycountryside just outside Birmingham and near the well heeled suburb of Hampden in Arden. This pub certainly passed the 'car park test', indeed one Range Rover parked outside had a car park permit for Salcombe in Devon. This latter point is pertinent to further in my review. The interior is very New England in style and light... More

This is our families favourite Restaurant in the Midlands. Our 3rd event this year, and by far the best cuisine in traditional English cooking. 23 strong, we commandeered the back room ( 7 short of the usual family gatherings ) and boy we're we in for some tasty morsels. We opted for Set menu B, on a 2 course menu... More

I attended a wedding at the Malt Shovel on 10 August. We were greeted by by smartly dressed smiling staff. The tables were beautifully set with immaculate glass wear, cutlery and crockery. The three course meal was hot and delicious and served efficiently by extremely pleasant staff. The drinks were served quickly and pleasantly by bar staff. I congratulate all... More

Treated the Wife to a " Nice" meal as opposed to a simple Pub grub one, but it was costly. The service here is very good and the delivery of each course timely. The starters (scallops) at £11.50 and (Salmon) at £8.50 are very expensive but tasty. For mains I had the Steak and kidney pudding £13.95 ( It's a... More

We held our wedding reception at The Malt Shovel on Sunday 10th August 2014 and Helen and her team way surpassed our expectations. After deciding that The Malt Shovel would be the venue for our wedding reception, a meeting was arranged with the manager Helen and Max the head chef, who went through the menu and wine options and recommendations...
