We have met friends and eaten at this restaurant for over 25 years and never had a bad meal. The service is always friendly anFreddie always has our drinks ready the minute we walk in the door. The food is always plentiful and of reliable quality. There is plenty of room between tables and you are not cramped, the service... More

Good service and tasty authentic Indian food. Generally go for a take away but when i do eat in the staff are always very friendly and attentive.

This is no nonsense old fashioned Indian restaurant. Very good value for money and there was a very hardworking waiter efficiently looking after a constant stream of customers, both locals and tourists. We were happy with our choices of prawn dhansak and chicken saslick (the latter was enormous). Decor very dated.

We were in the town and after watching the re-enactment that was taking part in the town we fancied a curry. This place was just where we were and the re-enactment had finished. We decided to try it. We went in and the decor was dated but with an old building like it is it is to be expected. We... More

No complaints about service. Decor a bit run down. Food well cooked and presented. Just a bit bland. Good location

We went in the Nirala and found the waiters very polite and helpful. They were rushed off their feet as had a party in but still made time for others guests. Food was of a high standard and the prices was very good. A definite recommendation

We found the restaurant pleasingly busy on a Saturday night. We were seated easily without booking. The restaurant itself is looking very tired and the colours of blue make it feel cold and not very indian. The room could do with a warmer paint colour and some indian touches to the decor. We ordered a set menu which was reasonably... More

Literally just got home from this restaurant with family and the journey home revolved around wondering what we thought about the weird atmosphere and experience encountered. The wait was at least an hour, although many tables empty. The decor is well and truly dated, but appear to be pretty clean. However, apart from the loooong wait, the strange feelings started... We have been to the restaurant a number of times as our son and wife goes there on a regular basis, the food is always of good quality and the price reasonable. Normally the service is very good, however this time we had to wait for almost an hour for our main course to arrive. The only explanation from the... More

I go to Nirala at least once a month because it's consistently good; they're friendly and relaxed, they'll do anything for you and the value for money is superb. But more importantly, their curries are gorgeous. The menu may not be hugely creative and 'on trend', but every dish I have ever had has had great flavour and been really... More
