Lovely location but food poor.

We visited this lovely old pub for our Friday night meal having travelled to Tewkesbury for the Festival weekend. The bar area and the garden is lovely and has great character, this pub being the oldest in Gloucestershire. However it was packed as there were many people in the town for the weekend... read more

The Old Black Bear has seen better times but to knock the age is to forget why it is there on the river. It has a lovely beer garden overlooking the bridge and river but only on a warm day - perhaps a sundowner! An interesting selection of beers in its maze like bars and entrances! Yes! It has seen... Came back from a lovely holiday and remembered this pub. Thought we would stop in for some food but didn't quite get that far. The building is in desperate need of a refurb. I understand the old look but some things must be improved like the decorations and the toilets. Some bar staff were great especially the young lad behind... More

Didn't eat here but visited a few times during our three night stay in Tewksbury. The weather was fine so every visit we got a couple of beers and sat at the bottom off the beer garden right next to the river Avon, lovely. The lager was fine, the staff friendly and attentive and the pub a very nice old... More

Called in because they had a deal up to 4.00pm buy a meal and get a drink for a £1 Messed up our drinks order and instead of getting the drinks deal they gave me a Bitter that wasn't on the Deal in-spite of asking for the deal. The Cheesy Garlic Bread was both burnt and Dry as a Bone.... More

This use to be my local for many years. I really enjoyed the beer garden that faces the river. The food is standard but reasonable priced. They have a range of beers on offer. On a summers day I would recommend it l.

Visited on sat afternoon, spent 15mins waiting at bar to order.waited one and half hours for a chicken burger, when it did eventually arrive it was cold, and there was no sort of apology for the wait, arrogant staff. We live quiet close by,and have often used here for friends and family, but will not again.

Popped in here one early Friday evening in need of drink and food when in the area. It's handy just on the edge of town on the corner so fairly easy to spot. The pub has some nice features that forms part of the attraction. The staff were friendly enough although the fella seemed a little slow in putting to... More

What a shock!Popped in for pint, though I was back in the seventies..... Where are the team led by the fabulous Thai lady? She lifted this potential gem of a pub up from the bear pit it had become to a friendly ,well run family institution. Now it's a shoddy ,badly run dark sticky , dirty boozer.Food is prison standard, staff...
