I've been looking for a good Japanese restaurant in Herts. for years. We used to go to Sukiyaki in St. Albans a lot but now that's gone, there is nothing until we found Hanako last night. I could kick myself as it's been open for 11 years but to be honest, we don't normally think of Watford as an eating... More

The staff were attentive without being overbearing and intrusive, the food was great quality and freshly cooked with fast service. Inside the Decor is simple and rightly so, the focus was clearly on quality ingredients over flashy decorations. I expect our first visit will be the first of many.

The food here is really great and authentic Japanese, but it's quite pricey. The lunch bento boxes seem like the best value at £12. If you like Japanese I'd still recommend giving it a go. The lady who works out the front is so kind and friendly, when I went to pick up a lunch order she had a cup... More

Randomly selected this restaurant for a lunch on my long way back home and was pleasantly surprised. I chosen Bento box while my colleague (Japanese) had Tonkatsu dish and we both agreed that the food was excellent. Ah, forgot to mention about their duck soup, which was served prior to the main meal and was simply exquisite. For frequent visits... More

We visited this restaurant one lunchtime having walked passed it for years. We were a bit short on time but managed to get 2 courses in 45 minutes which bearing in mind he makes everything from scratch was great. Really good quality food, friendly service and we will be going back. Now if only it was a bit cheaper.........

From the outside, it doesn't look amazing, but the food was really excellent. The sushi was quite expensive, but then you get what you pay for! All the food was lovely, and excellent service!

A small Japanese restaurant at the edge of the town centre. The lunchtime £12 Bento box was excellent with good variety (soup, gyoza, sushi, tempura, teriyaki) and Japanese green tea of equally high quality. Overall the menu is fairly pricey so be prepared to pay for the quality.

Real Japanese food - fresh variety of sushi with lots of ginger and wasabi. Good miso soup. Nice tempura. A bit pricey, but then fresh, raw fish would be, I guess. So this is sort of reassuring. Unpretentious little place - a treat for anyone who wants a bit of real Japanese cuisine and not the oily wagamamachain/chinese noodle bar... More

This is a lovely little cosy restaurant, needs a lick of paint to brighten it up though. The menu is a good selection Inc noodles, ramen and sushi. Although I thoughtful food was really lovely, it was too expensive to get carried away and order loads...so we managed a two course only with no sides and the food was so... More
