Ranked #59 of 213 Restaurants in Maidstone
Certificate of Excellence 2014
Cuisines: French
Dining options: Breakfast/Brunch, Reservations, Late Night
Description: With a combination of delicious food, great wines and a real ambience, Café Rouge has embodied the style and je ne sais quoi of French dining since it opened way back in 1989. Café Rouge Maidstone is just the place to mull over the morning papers with a cafe au lait and a croissant, pop in for a spot of lunch, share a post-work drink or relax over an evening meal. The menu covers a range of French classics from croques and baguettes, ideal for a quick and easy snack, to more substantial fare such as steak frites and boeuf bourguignon. Likewise, the wines are predominately French; many made by lesser known producers, and provide the perfect accompaniment to the food on offer. If it's been a while since you've paid a visit, the team think you'll be surprised by how much you've missed them. No hassle, no rush, no skinny-decaf-double-shot-to-go, just a vibrant atmosphere that moves with your moods throughout the day.

It's been a few years since I ate in a Cafe Rouge. They used to be competent, if uninspiring places that didn't hide their corporate soul but delivered edible food at palatable prices. They now seem to have no idea what they are. A hopelessly non-descript set menu that was geographically pan-European enough for me to end up surprised there... More

Café Rouge is a good dining experience and we have been to this restaurant several times as well as others in the chain. The menu whilst not varying too much is nevertheless very good with a good choice of starters, mains and desserts. The food was cooked to perfection and well presented. Service excellent by friendly and courteous waitresses who... More

The positives - The Strawberry beer & the fact we didn't pay due to being given gift vouchers. We booked on a Sunday, when we arrived a majority of the staff were sitting around the bar chatting. My partner chose from the set menu - food was basic at best & the dessert was a GU dessert (the foil around... More

Not quite as interesting a building as many Cafe Rouge. However the standard of service and food was as good as ever. They are very consistant. I fancied a filet steak after creamy mushrooms. It was cooked just as I requested and melted in the mouth. My wife was equally happy with her croquettes choice and our merlot and anjou... More

The special strawberry beer that they had on offer was really enjoyable, other than that, things were quite average! Bread to start was fine but nothing special. I had the goats cheese tart which I was fairly disappointed with. The case of the tart was incredibly hard and difficult to cut into. The filling was also a bit sickly. My... More

Really good food, especially impressed with the desserts which can be a bit of an afterthought in some restaurants, but are delicious and well-presented here. Service is always friendly too.

I use Cafe Rouge quite often for business meetings as my severely allergic colleague can safely choose several meals here. We have had several enjoyable meetings in Cafe Rouges in different places. On this occasion, we had 1.5 hours to have lunch before we both had to get to our next appointments. Although the restaurant were not busy, we had... More

Hi, Went their for my daughters birthday, table pre-booked.There were six of us, including my adult daughter, a pleasant welcome, but it was a shame some of the group wanted, larger (draft), but the house had sold out. We did get a complimentary bottle of champagne, as it was her birthday, (with the voucher received), and had other drinks as... More

Firstly. I have dined in several cafe rouges and they were excellent! The Maidstone Cafe Rouge however did not meet the same standards. I ordered the Steak Minute - medium rare, it arrived grey and tough. My wife ordered the Caesar Salad. Well. It was lettuce, lots of yellow poor quality lettuce. The chicken on the lettuce was nice but... More
