definitely a mixed experience. asked for a quite table when I booked - was seated opposite a speaker, next to the toilet and by the open back door. starter was fantastic (mixed mushrooms on toast), although when it came to paying was charged for a main instead of a starter. Rump steak main was very tough and had to leave... More

The food was overpriced for what was served. You would receive a nicer meal at half the cost in some other local pubs. The bar staff were clueless and the music was loud and grungy. The whole place just seemed a bit dingy and didn't live up to it's expectations as the review looks very good through trip advisor. Would... More

The Jolly Farmer is tucked out of the way in the little town outside of downtown Basingstoke. The pub/restaurant is small and contains three main areas (outside with picnic tables for smoking and sunny days, pub area with about 6 tables, and a small dining area). The food is excellent (the pub carries seasonal beers). While there we ordered hamburgers... More

Firstly the main bit - the food was perfectly decent and we were happy with it. The bar staff were OK - not particularly personable and attentive and service was slow. Alas the experience was mostly ruined by a fouled mouthed, drunk lady at the next table who was very generous with her advice to others. A few minutes after... More

Went for a late lunch yesterday (3.30!) And thought we would try somewhere different for a change. Having not been here over 20yrs ago thought it time to try again! The food was great, really tasty & throughly enjoyed it, nice selection, & great flavours. service was great too, the only criticism & this is not the pub, but as... More

Called in here for lunch just after midday. There were a few spare tables inside, although most had people either already eating or waiting for food. We took that as a good sign. We ordered and were lucky enough to be blessed with enough sunshine to sit outside. The service was great throughout even though the staff were plainly very... More

I visited on the off chance this evening having been caught in the rain walking my two dogs. There were numerous dogs in the pub, it was buzzing with such a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and quite busy. I was nervous as country pubs such as this can be quite 'cliquey', but I was made to feel so welcome by... More

I visited for the first time with my new dog early midday Saturday. What a fantastic first impression, we were all made very welcome, including the dog :) Great pints poured to order with a friendly face, Dee was particularly accommodating. Will definitely visit again. Thank you for offering a fab new local :)

We just stopped on the off chance and it was a perfect choice!Small but with a large beer garden, the food was exquisite and home made and the staff really friendly. For sports fans there was also sky sports but didn't interfere with the ambience of the pub.
