The first and still the only Nepalese restaurant in Swindon, it would be all too easy for the team at Gurkha Village to rest easy. However this fantastically friendly restaurant works tirelessly to maintain the reputation that it has quickly gained here in the town where it sits pretty as a real local favourite. Situated in the towns Gorse Hill neighbourhood, Gurkha Village is worth the wander from the centre, providing a perfect combination of warm, relaxing atmosphere and deliciously exotic food. Designed with simplicity and comfort in mind, the dining room is fairly frill free, only touches of attractive art and greenery giving hints of the restaurants Himalayan heritage. Freshly cooked food is traditional and tempting, the menu offering both Indian style classics such as biryanis and tandoori dishes as well as intriguing Nepalese specials made to authentic home style recipes. A real selling point is Gurkha Villages dedicated childrens menu which includes English and Indian options - ideal for family dining.

This was the first time we have tried Nepalise food and it was lovely. The service was excellent and all the staff were very helpful and knowledgable when helping us choose our food. The meal including drinks was very reasonably priced and we will definately be visiting again.

Another great visit on a Wednesday for a change. Didn't realise before hand, but there is a set price menu if you want on a Wednesday - and at £10.95 you cant really go wrong. A group of 4 - we all had different - and everyone was really pleased. Service was excellent. Nice and busy. Food as always was... More

This review is based on a takeaway ordered through an app. Unfortunately we have been left less than impressed. The main problem was the 'Ghurka Super' which was described as Chicken Tikka pieces in a spiced tomato sauce. It was cream based with puree almonds; the chicken was most definitely not Tikka. At a guess it was Korma or Pasanda... More

We were looking for somewhere a bit different for dinner and were so glad we stopped here. The restaurant looks ordinary from the outside but don't let that deter you. Inside it's clean, welcoming, the staff are excellent and very attentive. We hadn't had Nepalese before and the waiter was very helpful and recommended a variety of different dishes. We... More

We visited the Gurkha Village today for the first time after the cinema. We found the restaurant to be clean, smart and welcoming. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Being a Monday it was quiet, but we were well looked after. The menu contains many new dishes from the usual Indian fare. I had the Mo Mo Lamb, small... More

I have visited this restaurant a few times now, including last night. The food is always excellent and the staff really friendly and helpful. The menu is varied, (have a look, it's on their website), and offers much more than the standard curries we have all grown so used to. But for the unadventurous korma, madras etc are available too.... More

Having served alongside Gurkha's many times during my Army service, I know and love their cuisine. This restaurant is really clean and cosy inside, with service delivered by happy and smiling hosts. Lots of room, and definitely not one of those places where you feel like the table next to you is sat on your lap. Food is incredible. Really... More
