Just moved to the area and was recommended this pub, in a superb location. Disappointed to find it closed. However reading previous reviews here, it seems clear that the poor service following a change of ownership is to blame - nothing to do with the two reviews here saying it smelled of dog!

In January last year (2013) The Harrogate Arms was a thriving, busy country pub that was dog friendly. For some years I visited regularly and enjoyed good food and a roaring fire in the winter. Then, for some reason picky, non-dog people, started leaving negative, snide reviews and comments about the place on Trip Advisor. The effects were slow but... More

My partner and I had booked to stay at this 'hotel' on 11th May. On arriving we found the place locked up and to be honest, it looked as if it had closed down. Eventually a member of staff appeared and we were told they didn't have room for us that night. We were shown into what looked like a... More

Well after a long walk, headed into the arms for lunch, went in and then had to run out again as i thought id mistakenly entered a nursing home. The decor is strange and just like somewhere you would wait to die. Quite odd actually. Decided to have the carvery, the meat was lovely, plenty of it, rest stuffing and... More

We went to the Harrogate Arms for a sunday lunch with my parents and our children. The staff were friendly, the carvery was very good, the deserts were both cheap and good, and the whole experience was very enjoyable. We've eaten there on several occasions since it came under the current management, and the experience has been consistently good.

Made a big mistake by stopping here for tea. We should have trusted our first impressions and left immediately, but we gave them the benefit of a large doubt. The bar and eating area is dismally furnished and smells of dogs. My glass came with a large smear of old lipstick which appalled me a lot more than it appeared... More

We have just returned from "lunch" at the Harrogate Arms. We are local people who have not been there for years as the last experience was not good either. Decided to give them another go as this pub holds wonderfuI memories for me, having grown up in Harrogate and we heard it was under new ownership.I have never written a... More

I e mailed to ask if veggie option available on Sunday carvery and Karl replied swiftly to say yes. The quiet situation is peaceful and dogs are allowed in the restaurant which had a roaring fire on a snowy day. Karl asked me what I'd like to eat and I asked what was available but only veg sausage or burger... More

travelling back from the lakes, we googled nice places for lunch and this place came up, on arrival at about 11.50am with family in tow, i was told there was no food ready until 1ish, the manager was quite offish about it and wasn't really interested in my enquiry, i would NOT recommend this place, the decor was very dated...
