From the moment you approach this place its all about tradition, gas lighting gas cigarette lighters, old decorations and mirrors, good local beer well kept, leather seats, knowledgeable staff and with a lovely second bar full of clocks this was my favourite bar in Harrogate.

I was in Harrogate for 1 night only and went to Hales Bar with some friends as it had been recommended. As soon as we walked in the whole pub was singing and so were we!!! We sang our hearts out for 3 hours! What a fantastic atmosphere, friendly staff and met some great people. It reminded me of the... More

This pub has plenty of character and serves food too. When we went in one evening there was hardly anyone in there. It is a very old pub and has gas lighting (as well as modern), very interesting inside. Worth a visit.

It is the oldest pub in Harrogate. It was very busy and the music a bit loud. We did eventually get a seat. A good range of beers etc was on offer. Prices were ok. Staff were very friendly.

Visited the pub years ago so on visiting Harrogate thought I'd pop in for lunch. There waw a set menu for £5.95. we choose the burger which we checked was home made on the premises and the cheese vegetable bake. After waiting quite a while we were brought a small processed looking burger and a pasta bake. We sent the... More

Great old pub with great beer. Insufficient staffing caused service issues and food only ok. Good value for money but could have been so much better

This was close to our B and B. It is the oldest pub in Harrogate. It was very busy and the music a bit loud. We did eventually get a seat. A good range of beers etc was on offer. Prices were ok. Staff were very friendly.

I've been drinking here on and off over the last 40 years, and the place has just got better and better. Not tried the food, but the ambiance, architecture, staff and beers are all second to none. If you're a real ale fan, just go!

I've been an occasional patron of Hales Bar over the years, usually popping in on a Saturday night when visiting family in the Harrogate area. It's a great place, with well kept ales and friendly bar staff. That said, the drinks seem to have got expensive ie £3.70 for a pint of Landlord and £3.50 for a basic Bass. Will... More
