Lovely old fashioned pub

This is a small friendly pub with lovely staff, nice atmosphere, Cider lovely and cold. Greg Wallace off Master chef was in there having a drink so a bit of a bonus.

Supposedly this is the oldest pub in Harrogate (the short doors attest to the medieval timeframe), and it was used to film a scene from Chariots of Fire. Cool enough reasons to go there in itself. Another reason are the cool "gas cigar lighters" that would definitely be considered a health hazard in today's building code. The pub decor is... More

Had a cracking unexpected evening here. Made to feel very welcome and at home with the locals, everybody very friendly. Karaoke was a great laugh, and good selection of beers. Would definitely visit again

It was our first time staying over in Harrogate and we had no idea where to eat and stumbled upon this small ale house. We had sunday roast and it was fabulous ! highly recommended. It is a traditional gas lit pub and worth another visit.

Called in for a drink the other evening. Pleasant bar with a warm and cosy atmosphere. Fairly quiet due to being a Monday night but still enjoyed it.

We have visited Hales Bar on many occasions and always had a fab time. Tonight, however, was even more fantastic and we came away buzzing. Harrogate Theatre put on a small production in the pub all about pub life. The cast became the staff and some of the customers. It was very funny and thought provoking at times. We laughed... More
