Van Zeller restaurant in Harrogate has a chef of rare gifts in native Yorkshireman Tom Van Zeller. Creating delicious and innovative British cuisine is the mission here, and one that has succeeded admirably. The smart dining room is both stylish and comfortable, a fine, intimate bistro-style setting for the kitchen's high ambitions. Chef Van Zeller started his career locally at the famous Betty's Tearooms and Rudding Park before learning his craft in some Michelin-starred restaurants in London, Sydney and New York. Now returning to his roots, Van Zeller won the backing of esteemed restaurateur David Moore (two Michelin starred Pied a Terre and Michelin starred l'Autre Pied) in creating Van Zeller restaurant. Almost immediately, his creative cuisine has earned Van Zeller Best Newcomer at the 2010 Northern Hospitality Awards, Best Chef at the 2010 Harrogate Hospitality & Tourism Awards and a pair of AA rosettes. Van Zeller is one of Harrogate's destination restaurants.

We had the tasting menu and unusually argued about the best bits! If you ask us this is verging on Michelin star but not sure. Must be the best in Harrogate. I would but say that with other places you may be disappointed with the flight of wines at the price But all very well done by staff.

My wife and I ate here in February 2015 and having spoken to many people since I can now honestly say the food was very poor and very unpalletable and poorly presented. Black snails, raw pigeon and opaque eggs(Edwina Curry eat your heart out!) were almost inedible. We had the six course taster menu bought for us(groupon) for a Christmas... More

I have been to many top restaurants in the world and this was too class and high quality. The service was formal but not stuffy. The lunch menu was great, the salmon was out of this world. My wife had the duck and it was cooked to perfection. Wonderful experience. A must go restaurant . Top class and a gem... More

Came here on a groupon deal and it was exemplary. The standard and range of food on the 6 course tasting menu was fantastic. Each course presented beautifully and tasting amazing with each flavour complimenting each other. Food I'd never tried before added an extra twist and smoked eel is now a new option to look for. Would definitely recommend... More

We sat at a table in the window of this small but fantastic restaurant and opted for the five course meal. The service was outstanding and very attentive. The food complimented and was equal to the service.

Went on a Groupon deal which later found out was same deal available direct from restaurant. Have eaten here before and always enjoyed it but this time left disappointed. The food was beautifully presented as usual but lacked flavour. I really think the time of foams has passed!! Trying to do this calibre of food on a cheap deal seems... More

We did the 7 course taster Groupon offer during a day out to Harrogate on my partner's brithday. We were not disappointed! Each dish was fabulous, you could see quite a lot of effort and time had gone into them. The service was great, a thoroughly enjoyable experience :)

Took the parents for a belated Christmas present after trying this restaurant last year. The food was the same immaculate offerings, with a good choice and fabulous flavours. We had superb service and would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Harrogate. Top quality food that is worthy of a Star or two. A gem of a place.

This is not a cheap restaurant. We really enjoyed our meal , probably best to have the tasting menu with the wine pairings given the prices. Lovely decor and smooth service. Despite the slightly stuffy initial impression staff were friendly and attentive. Pleasantly surprised that we were allowed to make changes to both the food and wine on the taster... More
