Description: Van Zeller restaurant in Harrogate has a chef of rare gifts in native Yorkshireman Tom Van Zeller. Creating delicious and innovative British cuisine is the mission here, and one that has succeeded admirably. The smart dining room is both stylish and comfortable, a fine, intimate bistro-style setting for the kitchen's high ambitions. Chef Van Zeller started his career locally at the famous Betty's Tearooms and Rudding Park before learning his craft in some Michelin-starred restaurants in London, Sydney and New York. Now returning to his roots, Van Zeller won the backing of esteemed restaurateur David Moore (two Michelin starred Pied a Terre and Michelin starred l'Autre Pied) in creating Van Zeller restaurant. Almost immediately, his creative cuisine has earned Van Zeller Best Newcomer at the 2010 Northern Hospitality Awards, Best Chef at the 2010 Harrogate Hospitality & Tourism Awards and a pair of AA rosettes. Van Zeller is one of Harrogate's destination restaurants.

Superb lunch today in Yorkshire's finest restaurant. Whatever the others offer, nothing can beat this kitchen team for sourcing, cooking and presentation. The combinations and skills are, without question, a surprise and a delight. Service is professional, knowledgable and friendly. Van Zeller customers all know that this restaurant is worthy of a Michelin star, however, despite the powers that be... More

We had the 7 course taster menu. I had the vegetarian one, my wife had 2 courses with fish. I liked the way the food was presented and also the way that the dishes concentrated on one or two main ingredients eg the dish with beetroot cooked in (probably) 4 different ways. My favourite dishes were the slow poached egg... More

Went to the restaurant to attend a function. We had the £50 per person menu which was weird....edible soil...what's all that about !? Staff were ok - would go if I was paying for myself.

Last visit was several years ago. While it was very good then it's now probably one of the best that Harrogate has to offer. The location is central but tucked away down a little back street. A lovely restaurant with modern decor. Really enjoyed the rabbit dish not to say I didn't enjoy the others but that was the stand... More

We try to eat here any time we are in Harrogate. It is a very pleasant environment, clean white tablecloths and napkins, great service. The food is outstanding. Portions not too large so you concentrate in the flavours, which were fantastic. From the "pre-starter" to the amuse bouche to the pre-desert and desert, the tastes and textures of the food... More

We ate in the evening, and really enjoyed the experience. One can choose a la carte, or a large or small tasting menu, and we decided on the former. Intriguing blends of flavours, beautifully presented food, and attentive but certainly not pretentious service. Best to book, as the place is both popular and small.

Came here some time ago (but only just joined tripadvisor) and the food was outstanding. We had the set lunch time menu and it was flawless. Superb presentation, great quality of produce and unreal wines. Only regret was that we hadn't stayed over in Harrogate and therefore was limited in terms of time and ability to sample the cellar!! Would... More

We dined here with some friends who, as the same party of four, our previous meal together was at Noma. Whilst that was all very clever, it was really more about challenging conventions - I for one enjoyed Tom van Zeller's food more. In fact, the food got a big thumbs up from all at our table. Really great looking... More

Had lunch here with friends and have to say it's the best place in Harrogate to eat by a mile, relaxed informal atmosphere, super friendly staff and really tasty food on offer. Would highly recommend but a word of advice, the portions although perfect for my small appetite are very much on the small side and could leave some people... More

Still no Michelin star? I have no idea what this restaurant has to do to be recognised by the Michelin Guide. The kitchen and front of house make this Harrogate's most creative and assured fine dining restaurant; and without any stuffiness. Warm, friendly, slick and assured. You can relax and feel safe in the knowledge that everything will be perfect.
