Description: Van Zeller restaurant in Harrogate has a chef of rare gifts in native Yorkshireman Tom Van Zeller. Creating delicious and innovative British cuisine is the mission here, and one that has succeeded admirably. The smart dining room is both stylish and comfortable, a fine, intimate bistro-style setting for the kitchen's high ambitions. Chef Van Zeller started his career locally at the famous Betty's Tearooms and Rudding Park before learning his craft in some Michelin-starred restaurants in London, Sydney and New York. Now returning to his roots, Van Zeller won the backing of esteemed restaurateur David Moore (two Michelin starred Pied a Terre and Michelin starred l'Autre Pied) in creating Van Zeller restaurant. Almost immediately, his creative cuisine has earned Van Zeller Best Newcomer at the 2010 Northern Hospitality Awards, Best Chef at the 2010 Harrogate Hospitality & Tourism Awards and a pair of AA rosettes. Van Zeller is one of Harrogate's destination restaurants.

I won't beat about the bush, our evening was superb in every respect. We were sat at a nice table in the window where we were served course after course of amazing food. We chose the 10 course tasting menu and after being asked about any allergy or great dislike of anything just sat back and awaited the surprise. Of... More

I was told this was fine dining. Certainly the price was expensive. On the night that I was there the service was sloppy , kept waiting for drinks as the waiter were more interested in chatting to a regular who apparently eats there every week so had not got time for our order. Very small restaurant with tables too close... More

We had a superb meal here - 8 exceptional courses including a couple that were fantastic (the pork and the raspberry). Service was friendly and helpful, the pace of the meal was just right - oh and the fennel bread was so good! The meal was also really well balanced and everything complimented everything else and the courses flowed beautifully.... More

The place is small but not cramped, the waiters friendly but not familiar and the menu short but well thought out. This is a role model for what restaurants ought to be like but mostly aren't. We were in town only for a few days and our regret was that we did not have time to return. This is cooking... More

Had a couple of starters instead of starter and main. Combined with a lovely drop of wine! Great recommendation from our friendly waiter. Thanks again. You made a great day even better.

Attended Van Zeller for the £35.00 seven course menu as a couple. We were immediately greeted upon entering the restaurant and offered the drinks menu. We were also shown the set menu that we were having and were advised if we didnt like anything then it could be altered. Everything looked so amazing and we stuck with what was on... More

Our Children treated my wife and I to the 7 course tasting menu at van Zeller last evening. We found both the food and service excellent. Some of the courses were among the best we have eaten in a restaurant, and we have travelled the world. Of special note were the Hens egg and tomato courses. Defiantly worth a visit,... More

We had dinner at Van Zeller's on our recent trip to Harrogate, and it lived up to all our expectations. We had the three course dinner menu, and it was very interesting and innovative food. Perhaps my only (slight) disappointment was my dessert. I chose the fennel doughnut, and found the doughnut a bit heavy. The rest was delicious. Service... More

My husband & I have eaten at Van Zeller's a few times now and it has always been an enjoyable experience with consistently good food & service. On our last visit we tried the beef & snails and my husband has never tried snails before & he was pleasantly surprised by how much he liked them and this can be... More
