Van Zeller restaurant in Harrogate has a chef of rare gifts in native Yorkshireman Tom Van Zeller. Creating delicious and innovative British cuisine is the mission here, and one that has succeeded admirably. The smart dining room is both stylish and comfortable, a fine, intimate bistro-style setting for the kitchen's high ambitions. Chef Van Zeller started his career locally at the famous Betty's Tearooms and Rudding Park before learning his craft in some Michelin-starred restaurants in London, Sydney and New York. Now returning to his roots, Van Zeller won the backing of esteemed restaurateur David Moore (two Michelin starred Pied a Terre and Michelin starred l'Autre Pied) in creating Van Zeller restaurant. Almost immediately, his creative cuisine has earned Van Zeller Best Newcomer at the 2010 Northern Hospitality Awards, Best Chef at the 2010 Harrogate Hospitality & Tourism Awards and a pair of AA rosettes. Van Zeller is one of Harrogate's destination restaurants.

Top Notch destination for foodies

The whole experience dining here is first class - the menu choice, the cuisine and the staff. The cuisine is like the Masterchef Professionals serve - art on a plate and superbly delicious too. The staff are knowledgeable, polite, friendly but give a fantastic service too. Always enjoy our lunch here, it's a very special treat.

Having so enjoyed our previous visit we were very much looking forward to our meal. Had booked for the seven course tasting menu and noted that the price was the same as last year. We were not disappointed. From the warm welcome by the staff on a miserable cold day to being enfolded by the ambiance of the restaurant we... More

We had the 6 course taster menu bought via Groupon. The first few starters were a real treat if a little microscopic. All of them left you wanting more. The main course (pheasant) was a little more substantial; you'll need a bit of extra bread to "mop up" the delicious gravy. My wife had the wine flight which although a... More

Used a groupon voucher and it was well worth the money. Tasty designer food served by friendly staff with a great selection of wine.

Harrogate was looking beautifully festive when we arrived on a cold, drizzly, Saturday evening in early December. We were warmly greeted into the small dining room and seated at a table for four quite close to the door. A small screen ensures you don't feel "on display" to the outside world, especially nice on a dark evening. We opted for... More

Charming, if pricey, restaurant with excellent quality cooking. Staff polite and attentive but only three tables (ten covers) during the lunchtime we visited. Very disappointed - left a nasty taste metaphorically and literally - that one of the deserts had whole nuts and peanut brittle in that wasn't mentioned on the menu. Received a cursory apology but that was more... More

I booked a table for 4 people and I can honestly say that we were all very impressed with our meals. Each course was extremely well presented; the food was hot and delicious. The staff were discreet but very attentive - a lovely place to go for a meal, I would highly recommend it.
