Van Zeller restaurant in Harrogate has a chef of rare gifts in native Yorkshireman Tom Van Zeller. Creating delicious and innovative British cuisine is the mission here, and one that has succeeded admirably. The smart dining room is both stylish and comfortable, a fine, intimate bistro-style setting for the kitchen's high ambitions. Chef Van Zeller started his career locally at the famous Betty's Tearooms and Rudding Park before learning his craft in some Michelin-starred restaurants in London, Sydney and New York. Now returning to his roots, Van Zeller won the backing of esteemed restaurateur David Moore (two Michelin starred Pied a Terre and Michelin starred l'Autre Pied) in creating Van Zeller restaurant. Almost immediately, his creative cuisine has earned Van Zeller Best Newcomer at the 2010 Northern Hospitality Awards, Best Chef at the 2010 Harrogate Hospitality & Tourism Awards and a pair of AA rosettes. Van Zeller is one of Harrogate's destination restaurants.

Truly phenomenal. Memories forever

My boyfriend and I had the most wonderful evening. The food was the best we've ever tasted in the world, literally. And the service was impeccable. Went using the Groupon voucher. Nice, small restaurant. Classy but not snobby with great service. All 6 courses were great, as was the amazing bread and the free appetisers. The star of the show was the final course of blackberries and mint with black pepper meringue. As a dedicated meat eater I was surprised to be raving about a desert... More

The food was exception, we came here for lunch and went for the 3 course set menu. The starter was tasty, cooked perfectly but not particularly for those with a larger appetite. The mains were a rabbit ravioli which was expertly cooked and presented, again small portions but extremely tasty. We then chose an extra course of cheeseboard before our... More

Every course a delight, the ones that we ordered, as well as the 'extra' delicacies provided. From the superb home made breads, amuse bouche, appetiser, main, pre-desert, desert, local English cheese platter.... And as for the wine list, a small but very carefully chosen selection. Something for every palate and wallet. We'll worth the money!! Have eaten at many Michelin... More

Had lunch at Van Zeller's a couple of weeks ago. The restaurant does a set three course lunch - so no choices. The main was rabbit, which was not everyone's favourite. Perhaps a choice of main might be a nice addition? Van Zeller's is a foodies restaurant - so, while definitely not large portions, the food on the plate always... More

A family celebration and the correct choice of restaurant. I had heard mixed reports and went with some trepidation. No need to have worried. The £50 per head set menu is excellent value for money. Good choice of all three courses, and a reasonably priced wine list. Perhaps the relatively young waiting staff could explain the dishes in a slower... More

Very much brief and to the point review. We visited the restaurant for a family birthday celebration and had a six course taster menu Positives - Excellent quality food, high end ingredients presented beautifully. - Excellent service, we were tended to very well by the staff at Van Zeller, who were polite and informative, and provided service with a smile... Went on a groupon voucher. Loved that the service charge was to be calculated on the full rather than discounted price. Loved the idea of a fixed menu with no choice. It was an opportunity to be very impressed. The bread surpassed expectations and was excellent. The poached egg in green slime tasted OK - but it is necessary to... More

It has been a little while since we have been able to eat at Van Zeller's and what a return. We had the benefit of a special price on the six course tasting menu, and the food was exceptional. The amuse bouche set the scene, full of flavour. Opening with Pea and Ryvita - the freshness of the peas, huge... More
