Very nice pub with a good kitchen

What a pub should be in my opinion. Friendly and efficient staff, good well kept beers, and a welcoming interior with lots of little nooks and crannies to sit in. Chilled out music, appropriate lighting and nice and clean. Ended up trying the food which was good, much better than the usual chain... read more

I feel a bit let down by this pub because I had been meaning to try it for so long and it was such an anti climax. We waited about 5-10 minutes before being acknowledged by staff (first at the bar, then in the restaurant). It took a very long time to get drinks and after our starter we waited... More

We had a lovely meal, good service in a friendly atmosphere. The restaurant was busy but we were still well loved after

Family meal on an early Saturday evening, had booked a table by phone two weeks before but on arrival there was no record of a booking, they did find us a table close to the bar, so disaster averted. Staff were friendly but at times service was quite slow, especially when clearing away after starter and main, despite staff frequently... More

Group of 8 for a mothers day meal, it was busy as you'd expect but the food was poor and at slightly above usual prices. Baked Brie arrived as a molten sludge and when I sent it back an identical replacement arrived shortly after being heated to nuclear proportions in the microwave. My steak was excellent but the gourmet chips... More

I went first time to Cuckoo as my boyfriend said was perfect for dinner. We arrived and our table had not been booked. We booked few days before - this can't be good I thought . The restaurants was packed and noisy was a Saturday night, so it was expectable. We were sat at a table in a smaller room,... More

This pub and restaurant is located on the outskirts of Peterborough in Alwalton village, the birth place of Sir Henry Royce co founder of Rolls-Royce. Surrounded by some traditional styled thatched cottages, as it is itself, it is in a lovely setting and ideal for taking a break after a good walk, which I sometimes do from Caster backwaters. There's... More

Birthday Celebration. Arrived 12:30 on Sunday. Obviously understaffed as only 2 servers and 1 barman on (no table service, have to order at bar today) OK fair enough, not their fault they were short-handed. We ordered starters and main. Starters came and the presentation was lovely - a Chef who obviously cares about his food. Garlic mushrooms were really nice,... More

Ate there today 8/3/15, standard of cooking has gone down hill. Prawn cocktail soggy with one whole lettuce leaf and runny sauce. Roast beef tough and very poor selection of veg, not very plentiful and served warm, not hot. Selection of deserts good. The setting is good but food needs to improve. Have had meals of much better standard here.

This is a generic "pub" run by the "Vintage Inns" group, despite that, it is an OK place to eat if you are not looking for anything special. The menu is varied, and not too expensive, and the food is OK. The do have real ale, but there is nothing special on offer, and the default is to serve it... More
