Recommend ... with caution

This pub, with a few rooms, can definitely be recommended, but only with some caution. To start with the positives, the rooms are very nice indeed, provided you don't mind a small element of 'bling' in the choice of bedroom furniture. We didn't eat dinner there, thanks to the presence of a Michelin... read more

We visited here on the recommendation of the people who ran our B&B. I think that we were particularly unlucky during our visit. When we arrived, all signs pointed to the fact that this was a perfectly adequate restaurant: ambience was good, the staff were friendly, there was a good range of drinks available, and there was a good range... Saturday night, walked off the street and were greeted warmly and a table found even though they were really busy. Food, service and ambience delightful, wine was better than expected too. A really friendly, relaxing and a delicious meal was enjoyed by both of us. Thank you.

Having booked in at The Pelican and found our table adjacent to noisy loud groups, we gave our apologies and took our chance at getting a table at the almost adjacent Bear & Swan. Wise move. We got a lovely table near an open window overlooking the high street on a hot summers evening. A good quality rib eye steak,... More

We will definitely stay again. We had an overnight stay before a flight. Cost about £14 and took about 15mins from/to the airport. Room and en-suite was lovely and clean and has recently been renovated. Only downside was it smelt a bit of paint, was pretty hot (but the UK was having a heatwave) and the automatic light went off... More

Very nice atmosphere. Food was delicious and easy to find food for those with allergies. It is set in a beautiful village and has the feel of a local pub that welcomes everyone. There is plenty of parking - the spaces are big as well, so if you are like me, they are easy to get in to. There was... More

Three of us visited the Bear abd Swan last evening for a meal to say goodbye to a family member who returns to the USA shortly. We have good memories of the food there, although we have not visited for quite a while. It's a good atmosphere and the staff are very pleasant and helpful. First problem - no Sea... More

We had a beautiful dinner here! My husband had lamb and I chose the goats cheese soufflé followed by the Cornish crab tart. We loved it. Best meal we have had on our travels in England over the past 4 weeks.

We had lunch on Sunday for my mothers birthday. The food was of good quality very tasty and plentiful. The bread with balsamic and olive oil was a nice touch. However the place does need a revamp the tables were sticky and did not feel at all clean. The decor was drab and the door to the kitchen was dirty... More

Having failed to find a pub serving food on bank holiday Monday, we discovered the Bear and Swan and were pleasantly surprised by the standard of the food. We didn't intend to eat much but ended up with a starter and main. The squid was tasty but overshadowed by the pork belly served in lettuce leaves. It was very much... More
