We've been to Ad Lib about 20 times now, and never been disappointed. The bistro-style menu is pretty much the same every time, but they change a few dishes every month. The food is very competently prepared under the direction of Swiss chef, Dietmar Sawyere. His signature dish is the barramundi on celeriac remoulade, which is excellent. The sugar-cured salmon... Spur of the moment decision to pop up the road to the local Bistro turned out to be a wonderful dining experience. As visitors we were not sure of policy re booking or simply turning up. We did the latter and even though the restaurant was busy and full, we were told about 10 minute wait. Hopped up the bar... More

We had high expectations of this restaurant after the newspaper reviews, and Tables (the previous restaurant on this site) was a hard act to follow. Yes, the food was good and reasonably priced, although my mussels were very over salted, but the real disappointment was that we had bought a very special wine to share with our friends for Xmas... We went to Ad Lib for a private work Christmas party. Everything about this place was impressive. We started with champagne and hors d'oeuvres consisting of a mix of oysters, mini prawn cocktails, mini onion tarts and truffle risotto. We then had a set menu to choose from and not one dished failed to impress. Cured salmon start, steak, noodles... More

Came here for a birthday dinner in which I was quiet excited as I am a lover of French food. We walked through the big red door and was hit with the noise of busy restaurant, at that stage I was thinking this could be quiet good. Unfortunately thats we're my good feeling ended. The female waiter that looked after... More

Having heard great things about the chef we ventured to Ad Lib in anticipation. From a food perspective, we weren't disappointed with thumbs up for the soup gratin, duke liver parfait, steak, lamb & asparagus meatballs and the calves livers. We were however very disappointed in the service. It appears all the energy has gone into the food believing that... More

Being a homesick Swiss in Sydney is not always easy. But I discovered Ad Lib and I was able to satisfy my cravings of Raclette (melted Cheese), Rösti (grated potato) and Spätzli (pasta). If you're French sick or just a "gourmet" that 's the place to go too as the have some nice choices from the Alsace region too. All... More

Dinner for 6 for a birthday Friday last. $120 a head for 3 courses each, 3 bottles of wine off the regular list ( not page 2 where the older wines lived) and coffee. Entrees - you know when you open a menu and get that ' there's just so many good things I just can't choose..' .. I just... More

No doubt the French cuisine was tres delicieux...however the ambience lacked a certain "je-ne-sais-quoi". The lights were too bright and decor minimal, not conducive to intimate dining.
