This is an excellent, atmospheric restaurant in Glasthule. Glasthule is a little village not far from Dalkey; the nicest village in South Dublin. Glasthule has many little shops which add to the joy of going there. Service is excellent and the food always perfect. It is owned by the Caviston family who have been a fixture in that part of... This was a new departure for us and every minute was a pleasure. We are so glad we came food and staff excellent and drinks chatting to the owner by the pavement. The shop next door is great to if you want virtually anything in the way of food

Been here for lunch a few times over the years (and it's always best to take the afternoon off......) but this was my first dinner there and it didn't disappoint. You need to like fish obviously, because that's all they do, but it is top notch fish. I had the crab starter and the John Dory special and both were... More

This is a small and very lively restaurant next to the wonderful deli of the same name. This place is expensive and the main dishes are mostly over Euro 22. The menu is interesting with specials concentrating on fish dishes. My companion had the crab starter which was delicious and I had the rather drab grilled sardines which could have... More

Starving for lunch on a daytrip to Dun Laoghaire the wife and I came across this restaurant on TripAdvisor and made the walk over. We were very happy we made the trip, both the tuna and the cod was fabulous and the staff was very helpful in moving us inside when we got cold sitting outside. It was very busy... More

Cavistons has that great combination of great seafood and a great wine list but all packaged up in a fairly tight space and at a moderate price. The space may not be ideal for a large group. Being only a ten minute walk from the centre of Dun Laohaire it is pleasantly situated and well worth a visit for a... More

Five of us had a family meal here to celebrate a special occasion. We have been before, and our expectations were high. We were all very happy both with the choice and quality of our dishes. Ihad a beautiful piece of monkfish but was envious of the seared scallops chosen by others. The service was friendly and attentive. Its not... More

This was our second time to have lunch here, both times we have chosen from the al carte menu which makes for an expensive lunch but the food is excellent and service is lovely and friendly and efficient. I would recommend this restaurant

Hubby and I felt like having fish for dinner (read: I really wanted fish and he had to go along with the idea:) so we decided to go for a walk to Dun Laoghaire. We were in Cavistons once before and the fish was splendid so I chanced it by ringing the restaurant on the day... It is a very... More

The absolute highlight of our travels around Ireland. It was mid-afternoon and we were both starving. We had driven down to Waterford and back up the coast through Wexford and Wicklow photographing since the wee hours of the morning. We were very close to Dún Laoghaire and a quick search showed us Caviston's looked like the perfect place to have... More
