We stayed at the Royal Marine Hotel in Dunleary and walked to Caviston's but taxied back after dinner. Caviston’s is a really good seafood restaurant I hope to go back to next time in Dublin! We went for the second sitting at 8.15 pm. Our party of four was received in a friendly way and we were... read more

The fish is always the star in this small restaurant. It doesn’t get fiddled with, you get a decent piece of good fish with an appropriate sauce. On our latest visit we both had the tian of crabmeat & avocado for starters. Delicious. For mains, the wife had John Dory with crayfish. I had turbot with a butter/lemony sauce. Top... More

We visited in mid-April, bringing a Canadian relative with us. (she knows her seafood). The menu is terrific - with a huge variety of fish, shellfish and crab dishes, not surprising as Caviston's main business is fishmongering. The set menu is good value but lacks the variety. I had the best crab claws ever, others had salmon, john Dory, hake.... More

We'd heard a lot of excellent reviews about this restaurant and that can sometimes lead to disappointment. Just not quite living up to expectations. Instead of that happening however we were pleasantly surprised. Cavistons surpassed our high expectations. Great chilli squid starter. 3 of the 4 of us had the monkfish and it was probably one of the best pieces... More

Very nice but expensive - particularly the wine. And it does feel a little like you're being ferried through with multiple sittings. That said we had a good lunch.

I had been here before but forgot that the train stop is NOT Dun Laogharie it is Sandycove, so we had a bit of a walk. However, the meal was nice, chill squid was delicious but the portion was tiny, haddock was also tasty if a little overcooked, Plain accompaniments of salad and new potatoes.

I went to Cavistons on the 7th of April 2015 and I found out that there wasn't Wi-fi or a Kids Menu. So I had to sit and watch my parents eat!! :(

Two of went to this restaurant last month and we were both very impressed. We went on a Friday evening, there are two sittings 6.00 & 8.30, we went for the 6.00 sitting. On arrival the staff were very friendly and showed us to our table straight away even though we were a few minutes early. The restaurant is quite small... More

We had a bracing walk along the promenade before a lovely lunch. When you book you choose your 'sitting' and we went for 1330 but the previous sitting had been cleared away and re-set a bit in advance so arriving early was not a problem. We looked no further than the specials although they have a very good looking a... More

Went to Cavistons on a cold wintery day, but the staff's wonderful attitude and level of service made the place warm and inviting. We had some beautiful fish dishes, the highlight being the mackerel and chilli jam, the crab claws, which the kids went mad for, and the chocolate dessert served with a lovely glass of Muscat. We also had... More
