Good Food, Great Atmosphere

My Daughter first introduced me to this place a number of years ago. I have returned a number of times, the most recent this week. I have to say I love the place, this time we had the early bird menu which is great value. If you like good food, very friendly staff and a great atmosphere in the... read more

Plat du jour lunch was excellent value. Included a glass of red which I accidently toppled. Waitress spotted my predicament and with a smile replaced my wine. Sean

Being French & feeling homesick, I decided to bring my partner to what I thought would be a great French restaurant. What a disappointment! First of all, the staff: not particularly friendly. We had to wait 15min for our Martinis to arrive, & an average of 30min between each course to be served (nearly thrown at us without a smile).... More

I was delighted to find Chez Max at the gate of Dublin. Not feeling like a fully lunch but feeling peckish, I was delighted to see sandwiches advertised on the outside board. Now, as you know, 'sandwiches' can really range from awful to the sublime in restaurant. I have to compliment Chez Max. This sandwich brought me straight back to... More

What a nice surprise to find this lovely little French restaurant in the heart of irresistibly Irish Dublin and in the shadow of the Dublin Castle. The service was warm and welcoming and attentive. The food that my friends and I enjoyed was delicious without exception. We didn't resist dessert either and I was delighted with my Crème Brulee. If... More

I stumbled across this place as I got caught in the rain and nipped into a doorway. I noticed the people sitting on the outdoor terrace and ran over to check out the menu. A friend and I collectively had Onion Soup, Steak Frites and Boeuf Bourguignon - we had no room for dessert - quel dommage! I have to... More

Went last saturday for a wedding anniversary celebration with my husband. Have wanted to go here for some time, lovely location at the gates to Dublin Castle. We were greeted by a most warm and friendly lady manager. Ordered the french onion soup which was almost exactly how I remembered it served in France many many years ago. Delicious. Couldn't... After the demise of le Frere Jacques I wondered who might or could take on the mantle of a genuine French restaurant in Dublin. By accident I have found such a place. Two different groups with whom I am associated had meals here. On both visits I found the staff and the food to be excellent.
