We are more relaxed at lunch-time and in the evening we add table cloths for a nicer ambiance. We are a medium priced restaurant with an Early Bird Menu being served all evening - seven days a week. We are known for best value dining and being Coeliac Friendly. In 2012 O'Connells has been double awarded Best Casual Dining in Ireland by The Irish Independent Restaurant Awards and The National Hospitality Awards. O'Connells features in The Bridgestone Guide and in Georgina Campbell's Ireland Guide. Our Food is a Family Affair - Today is Yesterday - Tomorrow is Yesterday - nothing has changed. At O’Connells our recipes and dishes have long deep roots. Our Mother was born in 1925 her Mother in the 1890’s.One family food ethic has remained constant - a respect for the land, the sea, the producer and the cook. We are happy to share our family’s passion for the food of the island of Ireland through our menus.

Liked: The food is excellent using high quality ingredients, taster dessert selection a great idea, their Groupon deals from time to time are super value, Mr O'Connell himself is very warm and welcoming Disliked: Our service was patchy, waiter kept forgetting to pour our wine, red wine was cold, not enough water or bread on table, noisy sprawled out room,... Met a friend here for dinner on a Saturday night. The restaurant was very busy but we had booked in advance. We arrived about 8.45 and were only served at about 9.30. There was a long gap between each course so I would rate the service as poor. We ordered chicken and I ordered the lamb which was a big... More

Our waiter was dour, unhappy looking and not at all friendly. We had a 10 minuet wait before our aperitif was served, finally asking another member of staff to follow it up. Starter was very poor, unappetising, bland and missing 2 of the ingredients which were listed on the menu (in fairness I was not charged for this and the... More

Loved the food - the choice - the very nice wait staff Well done to Alessandro! Oh yes and when everybody else left they didn't rush the two old codgers to finish! Highly recommend!

My family and I ate here in July and it was one of the best meals we had in Ireland. There were 15 of us and we all enjoyed it. Not only was the food great, but the atmosphere and entertainment were good too. I would definitely recommend O'Connell's if you are in Dublin.

We had 2 courses here. The black pudding starter was a little bland, lacked spicing and the wholegrain mustard sauce and apple compote were largely flavourless. Half the plate was covered with leaves as a garnish, a bit lazy and very poor value. On the other hand the main course was simply delicious. A very generous portion of beef bourguignon... More

We just had a wonderful dinner at O'Connell's. The meal and the service was excellent! We are on a Collette tour and an added service was a "Taste of Ireland" dinner. Only half of the people on the tour decided to spend a little more for this dinner but we can say it was well worth it!

Last night visiting with our daughter at UCD before returning to the States, we wanted something local and memorable. The free range chicken carved table side was perfection. My husband said the local lamb was the best he's ever had, and my daughter table carved roast was delicious! Desserts amazing. Wonderful service. We can't wait to visit Dublin again just... More

They were right.....no one came near us to take our order.....so after 15... More

Ooops Ooops Ooops - Many times sorry - we cannot apologise enough. We recall the incident very well - sometimes things go badly wrong that was one of those times. In fact I was the person at the door as you left. No acceptable excuse what-so-ever. A total lack of focus in the afternoon. We have since decided to close... More
