Chameleon in Temple Bar is an intimate, ambient restaurant that specialises in Indonesian rice-table. Rice table (or rijst-tafel) is when the diner is served an array of sumptuous different dishes, at the same time, from confit of pork belly with star anise to free range chicken satay to our delicious desserts, all made in-house! Its almost like Indonesian tapas!Since opening in 1994, its owners, husband and wife team, Carol & Kevin have made a point in using as much locally sourced Irish produce as possible, including only using free range Irish chicken and locally caught, seasonal Irish fish.Chameleon is ideal for a romantic get together or indeed, for your birthday party or Christmas party, as they can cater for groups of up to 40 in our private dining rooms.Winning may awards over the years in 2013 the Chameleon was voted Best World Cuisine in Ireland by the highly acclaimed Restaurants Association of Ireland

An experience to remember!

Ate here for the first time on Valentine's day (2015) and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. There was a very reasonable offer for 2 (considering it was valentine's night), the decor is stunning - in reality it is a small cramped space but with mirrors and well laid out tables it didn't feel like... read more

Visited last February for my birthday. Chose this place as I just moved to Dublin and was craving for some good quality Indonesian food (I was born in Indonesia and grew up there too). I was also very impressed after reading lots and lots of rave reviews here. Was quite excited to try the Rijst Tafel "Indonesian inspired' menu but... More

The food here is brilliant and reasonably priced. Great idea for small groups of people to eat together (there was 7 of us). The service was great, good selection of drinks and a nice cosy atmosphere. The restaurant is not fancy but the decor is quirky and it is nice and clean. The squid, pork belly and curries were all... Myself and a group of friends enjoyed dinner recently. We sat upstairs on the cushions at a low table. It was a different and enjoyable experience. The menu is interesting as each choice is a set menu of 7 dishes ... so as a group of 8 we had lots of different food to taste. The staff were friendly and... More

Thank you very much for your kind review and yes it was delight you have your group in with us and it was the Rijst-tafel you had which is our signature dish, it is a bit pricey to prepare due to the man hours involved in making everthing by hand. Hope to see you again. Carol More

Wonderful dinner experience. We were 4 persons, 3 of them unfamiliar with indonesian food. The staff explained the menu quite well, we had 4 different menu's. Food was amazing. The only thing i didn't like was the low cushion seats, but we didn t have a reservation ( so always ask for a table in advance ). Next time i... More

Four of us ate here on the early evening sitting (6:30pm). The upstairs area is small and cosy but with lots of atmosphere, very good service and tasty, well presented food. There is a good selection of drinks, beers wines and ciders, and the menus are explained to diners by helpful and attentive staff. Prices are reasonable for central Dublin.... More

had a wonderful indonesian meal here. each "meal" comes with about 5-7 smaller dishes. they have specific menus per your preference. i had the vegetarian meal (tempura mushrooms with a satay sauce, yellow curry, mixed veggies, a potato cake, noodles, spicy rice, etc) and my husband chose a more land animal heavy meal (they have a lot of seafood options... We came here as a group of 8 girls celebrating a birthday. The waitress was great at explaining the menu and made drink recommendations that were reasonably priced. They accommodated a few of the parties allergies and we're generally attentive. (Pretty impressive when the waitress took our food and drink order by memory!) Most importantly, the food was delicious, each... More

The set menus are a great way to sample the cooking styles. Being a group of three, we were able to select one vegetarian, one meat and one fish and it was great!

I rarely review restaurants on Tripadvisor, but as this one is loacted in Temple Bar and many visitors head for this part of Dublin, I thought it was worth a review. I had actually been here a couple of times more than 15 years ago and had fond memories of the place so decided to head back on a recent... More
