Great food, variable service

We were recommended this restaurant by a friend, and with good reason, as the food was really delicious. Excellent menu, and nice atmosphere. However, the service started off being super attentive, almost over-attentive (e.g. asked 3 times in first 5 minutes if we were ready to order), and then... read more

One of my favourite restaurants that's in danger of changing something that's not broken. I've been here about 12 times in the last 2 years and have always enjoyed it. My latest visit was ok but not to the previous standards because of what appear to be unnecessary changes. The usually excellent rump steak is now extremely thin - it... More

Delicious food and drinks, great selection, reasonable prices. Try the norwegian eggs - the potato rosti is perfect. The service was fast and the portions huge, just the extra bacon on the side was about 10 pieces! Would definitely recommend and go back anytime!

Small, lively Restaurant with excellently prepared food at reasonable prices. The Menu is not large but the quality was in evidence at all three courses. The steaks were excellent, the crowd noisy and lively.; Don't go here for a formal sedate night !. However, if you like good food excellently prepared, served by friendly informative staff, this is the place.... More

Our hotel recommended Whitefriar and made reservations for us, on a busy Friday night. The place is small, and rocking! Very full, mainly locals, tables close together, noisy, but with a warm and very friendly feel to it. The proprietor and wait staff were unfailingly polite and cheerful, despite being very busy! The food was excellent- ample quantities and nicely... More

Lovely atmosphere with great staff and the food was delicious. The Early Bird has a good choice of courses and is value for money! Will return soon for Brunch as it is highly recommended but bookings are hard to come by!!

I visited the Whitefriar Grill with a group of friends (8 in the group) and had a super meal. There was a great buzz in the restaurant and a very good atmosphere with a mixture of small groups (we were the largest on the evening) and couples. The staff were attentive and courteous without being too formal. And the food... More

Visited here on a Tuesday evening after hearing very good reports and was not disappointed. Almost every table full which is a good sign. We both chose from the Early Bird Menu, my OH said his prawns were very good (starter), my own salad contained all the things I love - courgette fritter, beetroot and more! Portions were large. Main... More

Went here for brunch with two friends, booking ahead is essential and they do require their tables back again but this isn't a problem. Food was so tasty and there was a really good atmosphere. Highly recommend!

Booked the restaurant for an early bird catch up with some friends last Thursday evening. The food was absolutely delicious. We had the prawns to start and the steak for the mains. Delicious. Merlot wine was gorgeous. We were disappointed when the next booking arrived for our table, however, we were informed that we could move to another table for... More
