We decided to try Matt the Thresher based on other TripAdvisor reviews, and we were not disappointed. We started with the mussels, and they were simply delicious. My girlfriend ordered the hake, and I ordered monkfish. Fish can sometimes be a challenge to prepare properly, but both of our entrees were done to perfection. The fish were very fresh, and... More

After arriving in Dublin, tired and hungry, we wanted a casual place with good food where no reservation was needed. Our concierge recommended Matt the Thresher and he was spot on. Delicious and generous seafood (hake was the special) as well as good beer, fantastic homemade soup and roasted root "veg". Staff were friendly and helpful. We went back the... More

My husband and I had dinner here on our first night in Dublin. It was recommended by our hotel concierge. We arrived at 7:15 without a reservation. We were told they could accomodate us, but they needed the table at 9:00. We thought 'no problem'! We each ordered a local brew, fish chowder and fish and chips/ scampi and chips.... More

I've dined at Matt The Thresher several times since it opened. The food is consistently good and price range is varied to suit most budgets although I find scampi and chips at e26.95 a bit on the expensive side. There is one area of irritation. When you ring to make a reservation for say 7pm, your good humour is changed... More

The seafood here is well-cooked, nicely presented and very fresh. They oysters especially, as a starter, were standouts, as was the smoked salmon plate. This isn't the most creative place in the world - no cutting edge food - but the food is very nicely crafted, and everything is very flavorful. The day we were there they had a butternut... More

Met at a friend for lunch here recently and must admit I had never heard of it! Lovely little cafe style restaurant not far from Baggot St with an extremely varied lunchtime menu. Staff are very friendly and make you feel very welcome. There is a nice seated area upstairs and a bar and tables downstairs. Food was of good... More

It was nasty outside with the rain coming down in sheets, but inside Matt's it was warm and friendly. The service was timely, but no one pushed us to complete our meal quickly and we were able to enjoy a leisurely dinner after a long day traveling and touring. The food was excellent. We both had a delicious fish chowder... More

Recommended by our taxi driver. Went for a late lunch and loved it. We had the best table in the house, the best host and waiter and the food was terrific! We grilled our waiter on where to go and what to see and he drew us maps, etc. Again, the atmosphere, food and wine was delightful. Highly recommended!!!

The concierge at the Merrion Hotel recommended this restaurant for us as our last lunch in Dublin. It was a great meal! The decor of the restaurant is a mix of modern and traditional. There is a small dining room just a few steps down from the main level. Our waiter, Ivan, told us that Michelle Obama and her daughters... More

We usually are pub grub at meal time in Dublin. My spouse watched Bourdain on our flight over sing the praises of this restaurant and wanted to try it out. She gets 6 stars. We made reservations even for a weekday night. Wise choice, as 3 par tie ahead were turned away until end of the evening. It is my... More
