the name of this restaurant was give to us by a taxi driver so we didn't quite know what to expect - but it was great! Lovely ambience, good service and the best fish I've had in the recent past.

We had 12 in our group. We were seated upstairs by the piano player. We couldn't hear each other. They would not give separate checks, even though we were sitting beside out spouses. We had been in our seats over 30 minutes and had not even placed our drink orders. Our waiter was rude and cocky. We left before dinner... More

Last Saturday after being at the TEDx Dublin in the Bord Gais Theater, we decided to extend the evening by going for dinner, Saturday night in Dublin with no booking we weren't confident. We arrived at Matt the Thresher shortly after 7 pm and went in to see if there was a table, there wasn't but a table was found... More

We enjoyed a wonderful lunch on an overcast day at Matt the Thresher during our trip to Dublin. The space is gorgeous with beautiful high ceilings and lots of light. We chose to sit at the bar rather than a table and had a nice chat with the bartender. Started out with some great wine by the glass and a... More

Visited here with group of us in August having taken the trouble to book first. When we arrived it seemed nobody really cared that we had arrived and we were left standing like chumps! Then it seemed that nobody really knew whether we had booked or not and there was certainly not a table ready! There was space at the... More

I went in the restaurant with a big group of people in the end of June. We had a three course dinner plus several bottles of wine. The food was good, well cooked and tasty. The majority of the group enjoyed their meal. However the slow and indifferent service caused several problems such as people having finished with food while... More

it was the reviews on Tripadvisor that prompted me to give Matt the Thresher a try, but I wish I'd noticed that the less effusive reviews all say the same thing: the fish can be very tasty but the service and atmosphere are quite poor. This really ruined the experience for my dining party, especially considering that at these prices,... More

We had our first dinner in Dublin at this restaurant and loved it. Staff were very friendly and quick with service. Atmosphere was great - a wonderful buzz. You can go there just for a drink or for dinner. We had lobster which was excellent - perfectly cooked, also prawn and lobster cocktail - again excellent - the pate which... More

Our first night in Ireland and we chose this place. It has been a very long time since we had a meal where everything we ordered was good. Honestly, everything we ordered was AMAZING! Best light, yet creamy, chunky fish chowder, with a rich dense yet moist traditional brown bread. Next, I had the shrimp in garlic sauce (they called... More
