A hidden Gem

It is easy to walk by this place but that would definitely be a mistake. The bistro is in a cellar, below a Georgian town house, a little down the road from Merrion Square. The atmosphere is definitely Gallic, without a Guinness tap in sight, which when I'm in Dublin is normally a put off ! On the... read more

the Blackboard Bistro is opposite the National Gallery on Clare Street in a basement lication. Warm and friendly staff, wonderful fresh and tasty food. Broad bean salad was superb as was the lamb main course. Service is leisurely as you are out for the evening. Desserts are first class too and all portions more nouvelle cuisine size but very enjoyable.... More

Three of us enjoyed the early bird menu which consisted of three courses for €28.50; our bill came to €130 with wine and extras, which we considered very good value. The starter of quail with tarragon was excellent; the rib-eye steak was disappointing because it was a little tough, but the accompaniments were tasty. The red berry pavlova with crème... More

Had lunch with a friend at the Blackboard Bistro on 11/08/15. The dining room is small but nicely decorated and not cramped. From the start the service was attentive but not intrusive however at times it could have been a little quicker but since we were there for a leisurely lunch it did not matter at all. I had the... Down the basement steps and into a charming little restaurant that somehow manages to achieve the right atmosphere for either a small party of friends or a dinner just for two. Food was lovely - I had a succulent sea trout. Staff were friendly yet unobtrusive in such an intimate space (maybe 20 covers max). Not a cheap eat by... More

In Dublin for football in June this year and wandering back into city looking for a decent meal when we stumbled across this restaurant. Really pleasantly surprised by the food quality and value for money - all the dishes we had were delicious. Service was friendly and efficient - there was a main waitress running the show, with someone else in... More

Came with friends for dinner. Wanted to order a bottle of prosecco to start the meal but we're told it was only sold by the glass. We asked the waiter to see if he could sell the bottle as the glass sizes appeared rather small. Unfortunately for some bizarre reason this wasn't possible so we didn't order any prosecco. We... First time here was fine, very expensive for the standard of the food, staff are nice, and service is not bad, expected better overall, I would like to give it another go and try something else on the menu.

The food is fabulous. Really nice start to my trip in Dublin. However service is not that good. There is just one man doing everything. It is a small restaurant( maybe sits 20) but when it is full there is just too much for one waiter to cover. We were quite often waiting for things. I did enjoy my meal... More
