Good Food on a Rainy Day in Donegal Town

On the way to Sligo, we stopped in this lovely, scenic, historic town. A rushing river winds along the main part of the city. It was raining so hard that sightseeing was difficult, but we did the best we could. We stopped at this old pub, and were welcomed immediately. Though crowded, the hostess... read more

We stumbled upon the Olde Castle Bar our first night in Donegal in the rain. The food and service was wonderful. A great find. We were in Donegal for a few days and ate at the Olde Castle 3 nights. We were never disappointed.

Attractive pub with a good atmosphere and tasty food. We had a bit of await for a table but enjoyed a drink at the bar while doing so. It is a very busy place but the staff make you feel welcome

You get a great welcome as soon as you walk in, the staff are great. The menu has plenty of choice and everything we saw being served looked fabulous. We ate here three nights running and can particularly recommend the organic Clare Island salmon which was perfect and the fish and chips which were amazing.

Very busy restaurant. We were early but still lucky to get a very small table near the bar. Pleasant staff and nice atmosphere. Old pub with beams, open stonework etc. Had good Irish stew and disappointing venison pie. Pie was one of these that has the lid cooked separately and balanced on top, bit disappointing. Also the beefy gravy made... More

We ordered the Seafood Platter for 2 with advice not to order any Starters. So glad we took notice - the platter was enormous both with size and selections. It included 4 different fish /hot prawns & shrimp salad/ crab salad/ mussels / fish cake/ fish patè/ smoked salmon and finished with oysters. Every taste was delicious and expertly cooked.... More

Delicious food, reasonable prices in the heart of Donegal Town. We were an extended family of ten, and received wonderful attentive service by staff. The menu was well varied, catering to all tastes. We ate here twice while staying in the area. One of our party had the fresh fish of the day both times, and another had also the seafood pie... More

Nothing too much trouble, the service was second to none for a party of seven. Extensive menu for a light lunch or three course dinner. Quality food, well prepared and presented, and compared to similar establishments around the square, well priced. Do yourself a favour try here first for a hearty and very enjoyable meal.

With US friends we had an early dinner but first started with some drinks. Staff were very helpful and quick in serving the drinks. We also got a good introduction into local beers and Irish whiskey! Very kind. The food was excellent. Fresh fish every day and a daily menu board with a wonderful selection. The fish and the lamb... More

I had Irish stew which was tasty and succulent while my partner had seafood pie. Both are priced reasonably. We placed our order and waited quite long. When we checked with the waitress, we're told the Cook had forgotten. As a goodwill gesture, we're given complimentary drinks.
