Visited this place for Dinner, Friendly staff. Got a seafood tray for 2. It was excellent selection of local seafood. If you like sea food, Try this and remember don't order anything else except drinks as this tray is more than enough for 2.

I'm always looking out for great chowder and its remarkably hard to find. However, this place does the best, the very best, I've had for ages - creamy, flavoursome, full of fish. Fantastic. Even beating world champion Chowder from The West bar in Westport in my opinion.

We called in here for lunch recently - it's definitely worth a visit if you're in Donegal Town - great food and a really nice pub atmosphere.

We went for an early dinner and ate in the bar, as the restaurant was closed on Tuesdays. The kitchen is the same for both, however. There were still plenty of tables, but it took more than 10 minutes before someone acknowledged our existence. Our waitress was not friendly or particularly helpful, but we were there for the food and... More

On a recent visit from Canada and really wanted to visit since I first found this restaurant on Tripadvisor and very glad I did! The atmosphere was excellent. Part of the old castle and restored to look authentically old. But the food was the real highlight. I had venison pie and it was amazing. Thinking about it now makes my... More

Called in for Sunday lunch and had a great time, hearing all the american cousins chatter and enjoyed great food. Very well presented with good portion size, tasty and great value. Well done and keep up the good work

Great atmosphere, friendly staff, delicious food. Located right off the town square, just what you need for a lovely dinner. We had the seafood pie and a chocolate and banana mouse "log" for dessert. Delicious. As we've been traveling a while now, we've learned to share meals since we can't take it back to the hotel. No problem with portion... More

We stopped into Donegal and decided to have lunch at the Older Castle Bar. It was clear that this was a place that locals went to so that's always a good sign. We had the seafood chowder and it was outstanding. We enjoyed lunch so much that we came back for dinner and we weren't disappointed. We had the seafood... More

Stopped in for a quick lunch and left pretty happy campers. The club sandwich was exceptional. Hand sliced turkey, not the processed thin sliced turkey one gets in the States. Now we are spoilt and when back in the States and wanting a club will have to check on the turkey. Great service too.

Stumbled across this pub during a scroll around the town. It just oozes charm. The quaint stone walls, windows and doorway give an authentic vision to how it look hundreds of years ago. It facade just screams at you to enter and allow their hospitality warm your spirits. Whether you just want a coffee, a beer or to sample the... More
