Very Good Food, Really Friendly Staff

I really enjoyed by visit to Star Anise last night. Four of us had different starters, mains and deserts and all were very good. My seafood chowder was exceptional. We were all delighted with our choices. I did feel the tables were a little uncomfortable, the legs seemed to get in the way. But that... read more

Very relax atmosphere with friendly staffs, not to forget a very decent wine list, we had the Massaya from Lebanon , as for the food, very unpretentious but to a very high standard ,had the prawn ravioli and the venison steak, not to forget the creme brulee , to die for, in overall very good value , will definitely be... We enjoyed an excellent meal in Star Anise-- atmosphere was cosy, service attentive and friendly. Star of the show the food.. all four of us enjoyed great starters and mains...unfortunately couldn't manage desserts but enjoyed great coffees to finish. Chowder was declared as one of best ever by one of our party. The main courses of duo of lamb, lamb... More

Had dinner with a friend during the week early in the evening . The restaurant isnt huge and it has a nice atmosphere but as we were leaving it was getting very busy so a bit louder in there too so booking would be a good idea also. The menu has some lovely options though its a bit on the... More

Nice food , Lovely staff but expensive. This is a very popular restaurant so be sure to book a few days in advance. The staff are very friendly and attentive but the only downfall is that the food is very much on the pricey side. Expect to pay €20 + for a steak and the wine menu is also quite... More

One of our first meals out since having a baby and a return to one of our favourites. Both had chowder to start which was very hearty and full of fish and seafood but seemed a little under-seasoned - easily fixed with some salt and pepper. For mains, we had duck confit (excellent) and steak (good but could have been... More

This was my 2nd time coming to this restaurant with my boyfriend. The first visit was really memorable with lovely food and attentive service. This time was a little bit of a let down compared to our previous visit. There was only waitress on at the time and perhaps because we were the youngest couple there I felt the service... More

We met friends here for a bite to eat on a Saturday evening. We had a baby sitter so we're on the clock. Our table for 4 was booked for 2030 but wasn't ready and we were sent away - we came back at 2100 and we still had to wait 10 minutes. The food was okay - nothing to... More

I arrived to Cork late and was looking for a place to eat around or just before 9pm. I stumbled on Star Anise. And they saved me having to eat at a fish and chips place down the block. I had the Rump of Lamb €24.95: Boulangere potatoes, summer greens, baby carrots & rosemary jus. It was delicious and the... More
