My sister, a friend and I decided to try somewhere we've never been before for a quick meal before we traipsed over to a show in the Opera House. Honestly, it was the best meal I've had in a very long time. We had the crab cake and aubergine and feta parcels starters. Gnocchi, Duck confit and steak main course.... More

Visited here with family and opted for the "early bird" menu. Superb quality and excellent value. There were four of us and two opted for steak. Cooked exactly as ordered and delicious. Lamb and Hake were beautiful and there were very happy customers. No hesitation in recommending Star Anise. One quibble - the design of the tables can be uncomfortable... More

Seven of us had a wonderful meal in Star Anise recently. We are all from Cork, and all foodies, all in our 50s, even though we still call ourselves 'girls'! One of our group is a regular at Star Anise and always praises her trips to there. Our meal really lived up to our expectations. We all had the early... More

Just spent a four days in Cork and found this restaurant by chance. The Early Bird 2 or 3 course menu was so attractive and such good value that we gave it try. It was so good that we went back the next night! The welcome and service was excellent, as was the food. Lovely French lady in charge and... More

My other half and I were down in Cork for a wedding last week and decided to stay over the night before. We picked this restaurant from TripAdvisor and were not disappointed. We were able to choose from both the early bird menu and the a la carte menu. Although the wine list didn't stock rose wine it was extensive... More

Went to Star Anise last night and really enjoyed both the food and atmosphere. We got 3 courses off the early bird menu for €27 each which was very reasonable. The food was beautiful and the portion sizes were just enough. The staff were very polite, they asked twice throughout the meal how everything was- which is enough, and just... More

We went with another couple for the early bird dinner before the theatre. We were all delighted with our meals and the service. For starters our choices were pork teririne / crab cakes / aubergine & feta parcels. All were nicely presented and tasty. For mains 2 of us had pan-fried hake and the others had confit of duck both... More

This was a fine restaurant for a treat in Cork. Portions are large and very well cooked but just short of excellent. Service is brisk and friendly and what makes this restaurant attractive is it is situated just across the bridge from Patrick St. It was recommended by the tourist office, and we liked it very much overall.
