Outstanding

I hadn't eaten at this old favourite of mine for a few years having been away from Cork. Went with a group of friends on a Saturday night. It's a small restaurant but doesn't seem to suffer from a noise problem. The welcome was friendly as always from Virginie and throughout the night the service... read more

I met a friend for dinner in Star Anise recently and we were not dissappointed. It is quite small so you will have to make a reservation. We were seated fairly quickly. The staff were nice and attentive. Our waitress advised us on the wine and she was very helpful. We both had the steak and it was mouth watering.... More

I went for an early dinner with a friend during a weekend trip to Cork. The food is not cheap but I don't mind paying for really good food and it was really good, from the bread at the start, to the goats cheese starter, fillet steak main course and sticky toffee pudding. All of it was delicious and better... More

I went there with my parents last week and I have to say I couldn't have been served better and the food was just amazing .we were also advised for the wine which was great (massaya) We had fritto misto and my parents had venison steak and seabass. The deserts were as good (Winter spiced panaccota and tarte tatin. We... More

Recommended this place for dinner with a group of girl friends in November. We were seated at 8.30pm and left after midnight having had a wonderful, relaxed and deliciously slow yummy dinner. Also recommended it for my staff night out at Christmas (tiny group this time, just 3 of us) and we went for the early bird on the Saturday... More

Myself and my wife booked this restaurant last Saturday night based on your reviews. It turned out to be the worst experience we have had in a restaurant ever. Things went wrong right from the start. My wife ordered a bottle of white wine, which was warm and the bottle had already been opened. Her duck main and my fillet... More

Great food and very friendly staff, only downfall was that it is slightly lacking in atmosphere for me

Our second year at the Jazz Festival and we were so impressed last year that we booked again at the Star Anise. Set menu excellent, tables not too close to each other even though room is smallish.

Booked a table for dinner with my husband. We didn't know anything about this restaurant but the reviews here. So we wanted to try. The atmosphere was a bit loud at there what seemed a dinner party the same night, but didn't really disturb us anyway. Dinner was really, really tasty. And waitresses were always very attentive and took care... More
