Nice

We ate upstairs of the food hall in the Farmgate café. I started with rock oysters, freshly shucked from the Fish Hall downstairs, plump and tasty. Next I had the charcuterie platter, a nice selection of meats and cheese. My wife had the chicken breast which she really enjoyed. The... read more

I had read about this restaurant in the Lonely Planet guide, and decided to check it out during our visit to Cork. We ordered the Irish Stew, Bangers & Mash, lemon tart and cappuccinos. The food was hearty and fairly good value for money. The restaurant had lots of natural light and overlooks the market which was nice. The service... More

Perched above the English Market is the Farmgate cafe and restaurant, serving real Cork fare. One side is self-service but for a real treat book a table in the restaurant on the piano balcony. This is genuine Irish food with some very local specialties: Try tripe & onions with drisheen or the corned beef. All is sourced locally, including some... More

Hadnt been for lunch here in about 15 years although I am still a regular visitor to Cork, having moved away since then. used to go for lunch here alot when I lived in town. Popped down for a day recently and decided to revisit as it has become so high profile and written about in the last few years.... More

This is great lunch spot city centre. I booked a table for four of us on a Saturday. It was very busy and it took a while to get the table ready but the for was worth the wait. We were served big plates of good Irish dishes like fried livers and bacon and cabbage. I much preferred the seating... More

We had come to the market as tourists and were delighted to find the Farmgate restaurant upstairs. The food was so fresh and a delight to the eyes - fresh crusty bread sandwiches were piled high and bowls of brightly colored salads invited you to taste. Like a previous reviewer, we found it difficult to choose. However, as we entered... More

Hubby and myself enjoyed a moreish brunch here recently. Our main crib was the difficulty in choosing- so big was the array of generously-filled, crispy rolls, homemade brown and soda breads, desserts, salads, chowder, soup, crepes, compots, granolas... could go on and on. Our main complement was bringing us back to the kitchens of yesteryear where the aroma of fresh... More

Wow! We have fallen in love with Cork city on our first visit! Finding the Farmgate Restaurant at the English Market really made our day. Lunch here yesterday was just wonderful. I had a dozen of the freshest best oysters I have ever had with the very, very good house white wine. My husband had excellent corned beef. The service... More

The English Market is one of Cork's few genuine tourist attractions. It seems only right to have lunch upstairs above the busy market stalls. We had a very nice lunch including some of the best soda bread I have had in Ireland. I had sausages and mash and my wife had the lemon chicken. The food was reasonably priced and... More
