Delightful

I was lucky and got a table in the restaurant. I would strongly advise booking or turning up at 12. Fish chowder was tasty and the bread that was served with it was the best I have eaten. My goat cheese salad was huge and very enjoyable. Good service. Great surroundings.

My lunch here was a gourmet experience for a good price. Located upstairs in the English Market (it is the entire upstairs, actually), we sat in the balcony section and ordered sandwiches and salads. My roast beef sandwich was wonderful as was the beet salad (see photos). Definitely worth a visit.

If A.A.Gill gives it the thumbs up (Framed review by the loo) then it's got to be good. The place is quality. Super food all sourced from the market below, staff who although rushed off their feet managed to be friendly and polite, and architecturally intriguing surroundings, made for an all round top eating experience. Well priced too. I wish... More

Had lunch here recently with a friend, we were very happy with the food however the waitress serving behind the counter needs some serious customer service training. She was very loud, patronising and incredibly condescending when I misread the menu. All the other staff seemed fine but unfortunately this particular woman ruined the whole lunch experience. Perhaps confident doesn't equal... More

We were looking for a cup of tea/coffee but then discovered this lovely restaurant upstairs in The English Market on Princes Street. It has two sections, one self service and the other, waitress service. We went for the waitress service and wish every restaurant could live up to their standards. Charming, smiling and superbly efficient. We went for smaller breakfast... More

Decided to try out this cafe today, we had never been before and both felt that the lunch menu looked decent. After a full morning shopping we grabbed a seat to set down all of our bags. As we did this an extremely rude staff member barked at us to 'order first, then sit'. We were shocked at her angry... More

I went to the Farmgate in the English Market with two friends. It was Saturday at lunchtime so we had to wait a while to get a table. We had sandwiches that were delicious but a bit overpriced I think.

A great venue, always very busy and noisy looking down over the busy market. The first time we lunched brilliant, the second time one brilliant dish but the chowder disappointing. Still worth a visit if only to see and hear such a slice of life over your lunch.

After stepping in from a summer shower, I was given a warm inviting welcome and seating overlooking the magnificent local food stalls which feature prominently on their daily menu. The blackboard menu offers fish dishes of the day using seafood caught that morning from the traders below. The main courses available include Irish stew with local beef, a roast of... More
