Chop and Ale house

Always good meaty robust eating . 9 times out of ten we always have the burger, pepper sauce and salad and fries. The house wine never disappoints. Excellent value for money...and the best cheese cake north of Cape Town !

Love this restaurant been several times, best steak we ever had. It is specialised and expensive but worth it for a special occasion, the rooms for the night are a great idea and very private. Good decor, clean and the most comfortable bath I have ever been in. Breakfast is great too.

This restaurant is a dining experience, without doubt the finest steaks around, my colleagues had burgers and even these were on another level. Apart from the food they have an extensive good wine list, if I had one crtisism it was the lack of real ale. The service was very good and efficient and the staff polite.

We ate here for my partners birthday earlier this week, a Monday evening but it was still extremely busy. We ate in the Chop and Ale rather than the restaurant, we did not have a reservation but did get squeezed in, literally by the fireplace which was thankfully not on. The Chop and Ale is very quaint, if you have... More

Having tried to go before and falling foul of their ridiculous no bookings policy (This was the chop and ale house rather than the main restaurant) and having vowed as a result never to go back we did. This time we went on a Monday night and there were only two of us and they were quiet and so unsurprisingly... More

Visited with my husband after someone recommended the place to him. Had a chorizo starter, expensive just for a piece of sausage with bland salad (over 8 pounds) and an ok steak wich wasn't anything I would return for. Definitely it could be more effort put into the presentation of the food for the price you pay for it. Service... More

This was the worst place we have ever eaten. WE WILL NEVER RETURN AGAIN. Thought the first time we went there was just a bad night but we were so wrong. The meat was a cheap cut. Supposed to be a sirloin. It was tuffer than old boots and FULL of FAT. A waste of money. Read this and go... More

Had heard so much about this place, how it is THE "go to place" for a steak so went along this evening full of anticipation. Sorry to say we could hardly have been more disappointed. My partner had a burger which lacked seasoning accompanied by a near tasteless peppercorn sauce. I opted for my favourite rib-eye cooked rare. This I... More
