Gem of a place

Visited the restaurant after a boat trip out to Staffa. Enjoyed an open Isle of Mull cheese sandwich and a local heather ale, which was followed by coffee outside, looking over the stretch of water that separates Iona and Mull. It was simply the perfect combination.

We had several visits to The Argyll and every time we were pleased with the food and reception. The principled attitude of the proprietors to the running of their Eco and green hotel is recommendable. Growing their own veg in an acre of ground will always guarantee fresh food. Hopefully we get the chance to go again.

Marvelous locally sourced foods served in world class presentations. Fish and fowl were popular items on the menu. Each prepared in unique styles by the chief. If you are a day tripper to the Isle of Iona call ahead and reserve a spot for lunch

The food was excellent! The chef was very helpful with my dairy allergy and made the meals without any butter or other dairy products and they were still fabulous!

We weren't staying in the hotel but called in for a drink when passing. The menu so impressed us that we came back on the evening. The food was well presented, tasted great and the service impeccable, thank you. We spent our time watching the waves and enjoying a lovely meal.

I understand the Argyll and the Columba Hotel now have the same owner, but I don't know if the food is similar, as I haven't dined at the Columba for many years. The Argyll has a lovely formal dining room, but you won't feel out of place in jeans and hiking boots, as Iona is not a formal place. Food... More

Dear Elizabeth Thank you for writing us your kind review. It is true that the previous owner of the Argyll was also involved with the St Columba, but that is no longer the case. I am delighted that the food and service was so much to your taste! We look forward to welcoming you back on your next visit. More

With almost everything closed on the Isle, it was a gem to find this place open for a nice bowl of soup and bread.

Dear Brian I am happy that you found us! I agree with you about us being the only foodery open at this time of year - we feel that as people still make the effort to come over to the island someone should be offering a welcome. We do close at the end of this month until the start of... More

Popped in for lunch, while visiting Iona and were not disapointed, the food was fabulous and extremely tasty, the staff were friendly and helpful. Great views of the harbour and across to mull.

We went in for lunch after touring the abbey and were quite hungry. We had the special which was Sea Breem in a brown butter sauce with greens. I swear I have never had fish that tasted so good. We also had a cheeseboard which was very tasty, came with home made bread and chutney. Prices were very reasonable, service... More
