Frequently described as 'the best restaurant in town', family-run Fern Cottage Restaurant in the heart of Pitlochry is a firm favourite, both for local residents and visitors to Highland Perthshire. Established over a decade ago, and located as close as you can get to the heart of this picturesque Victorian town, Fern Cottage Restaurant offers a warm Highland welcome, truly tasty food and personal service for every customer. Our menus have recently undergone a complete transformation and, with an emphasis on flavour, freshness, and the chef's flights of imagination, there is now more than ever on offer. Retaining much of the original ethos of using Scottish, seasonal ingredients to create dishes with a Mediterranean twist, all our food is cooked to order and guarantees a treat for your taste-buds, whether a classic or a contemporary dish. Fern Cottage is open for morning coffee, lunch, afternoon teas and dinner and, with an extensive choice of menus - a la carte, pre-theatre, seasonal and children's - we offer you something special every time. Head Chef Andy Bain has infused the new menus with his own refreshing brand of zing and, with meticulous attention to detail, has created an exciting new range of dishes packed with flavour and beautifully presented. Whether front of house or 'behind the green baize door', every member of our team is dedicated to ensuring you enjoy your visit, spread the word and come back for more!

Worth a retiurn

Arriving without a reservation, on a midweek evening, we were lucky to be able to be seated among a lot of reserved tables. We encountered very enjoyable food served in a prompt and professional manner. We will be back, but with our own reservation next time.

My partner booked a table for us, as a surprise birthday treat for me. The staff are efficient yet unobtrusive. Our food came through piping hot, and the Chef takes obvious pleasure in the presentation of his food, as well as the taste. We had desserts as well, and, although the restaurant was busy, we never felt rushed or under... More

We went in for a bit of lunch and it wasn't too busy. The staff were polite and there was a good selection on the menu but the service could maybe have been a wee bit quicker. Don't get me wrong, the food was nice, but sometimes doing a smaller menu well works better. The patatas bravas were just plain... More

Very friendly service, explained the menu and offered different types of local beers. Gorgeous tasty food served hot. A little cramped in some parts but the food makes up for that. Definitely worth a visit.

We stumbled upon Fern Cottage after a walk around the village and River. We walked in at 8.00pm and we able to get a table for 4 without a reservation. The restaurant was full so we must have been lucky to get a table after the pre-theatre crowd had left. I would suggest a reservation if you are going. We... More

This is our most favourite restaurant in Pitlochry. Food is always excellent. We have never been disappointed with the service and staff are very attentive. Perfect for a romantic dinner and also caters for larger parties.

I visited here after seeing advertisement for tea & scones, we felt very unwelcome and out of place especially when we needed to ask for milk & cream as they forgot both! A particular member of staff was very rude especially when she slammed the bill on the table without saying anything ! Won't be going back there again! After... More

Well I'll get my petty dislike out of the way first .....My table tea light candle wasn't lit (lol). Other than that, we went in the evening so we were pre Theatre dinner (a la carte menu). The service was amazing. We hadn't booked and I don't know how they fit us in because the place was so busy and... More
