Nipped in for lunch the other day with a mate. Took the dog in the pub side, which was a bonus, as the sun suddenly came out and the car was boiling. We both had ham and cheese sandwiches. I always dread buying anything with ham on, as 99% of the time it is wet processed stuff. The ham was... More

The pub is very good and the menu is so wonderful we couldn't decide. Everything looked so good. That is where the positive experience stopped. The service took an absolute age and the food, when it arrived was ok. No more than that. Nothing wrong with the Cawdor but many of these reviews are misleading. It isn't that great.

Sorry to hear your meal wasn't up to expectation. All our food is freshly cooked to order on the premises and we try really hard to keep that within a reasonable service time. Sometimes the kitchen can get hit hard with a lot of checks on a one time and so I'm sorry you felt the wait was too long.... More

It was five minutes to twelve o'clock and we were alone and hungry outside the tavern. Ten past twelve, it was crowded. Why so? Well: baked chervre with honey & nuts, small tasty pies, lovely soups, crispy salads, sunshine, well trained staff, fair prices. Could you ask for more? Yes! The wind, with us ;-).

Something had gone wrong in the kitchen on the evening we visited. I actually don't know what happened as 3 different members of staff gave us 3 entirely different explanations! The result was an hour delay for all diners between starter and mains. The staff were clearly embarrassed but their reaction was strange; they hid! Seriously, disappeared. So starter plates... More

I am so sorry to hear your comments, we did have a difficult service. With one chef off and then another going off sick, plus around four times the average number of expected customers for the shift it did put a strain on things. Staff didn't hide they were just stretched between the three different inside dining areas and then... More

The service, vegetables with the mains and price of some dishes let down the Cawdor Tavern, but it was still a very good meal, which says so much for its potential. The starters, soup and pate, were very good, as were the mains - a steak and a steak pie. However the vegetables which came with the mains had clearly... More

This is a lovely place with a "traditional" decor-very warm, cozy and picturesque. There were 4 of us and we all felt our food was excellent. The service was a little slow, but it's a relaxing restaurant, not a fast food experience. Best food we had in our time in the UK.

After seeing on the internet my husband and I thought we would give it a try. Our sons are coming to visit soon from Australia and America so we were looking for a lovely Scottish dinning experience for them. Staff were not very welcoming in fact I would say they are doing a job they don't like. We both had... More
