A good eating place for both main meals and bar food

We enjoyed prompt and pleasant service when calling at this Inn for lunch. Menu selection was good, and the prices average. There is a formal restaurant, as well as a bar menu for the bar. The bar menu is reasonable value, but the restaurant tends to be more on the expensive side.

Initially excited as it was situated in lovely, quaint little village. When we arrived it was empty, however our food still took its time. The good itself was alright, although we felt very put off by a man loudly scraping weeds from the patio right beside our window, which lasted the course of the meal. The place needs a bit... More

A real shame; lovely pub and the food was average pub grub. I visited with friends and children and was made to feel very unwelcome by a member of staff (only 1 in particular - the others were very nice). Grunted and frowned at for the duration of the visit. Completely ignored when we said thank you and goodbye upon... More

The Cawdor Tavern used to be on my 'must go' list, but sadly every time I've been recently it's been a bit disappointing. The whole atmosphere is tired and the menu is not exactly anything to get enthusiastic about....it never seems to change from year to year. Shame. Good location however, but the place needs livening up - it just... More

Enjoyed a lovely 3 course meal, unusual yet delicious locally or Scottish sourced food, freshly prepared, staff polite yet friendly & knowledgeable about the food. Plenty space for whole family including guide dog in a warm cosy lounge, with the option of sitting in the conservatory or in the main restaurant.

There was a huge coach in the car park and an accordionist playing bluebells of Scotland in the private dining room. The food was OK-although tiny portions for the price- we had the smoked salmon, the trout and the herring and a couple of meringue heavy desserts.Welcome is OK and used to tourists.Outside would be nice on a warm day... We stopped here for a late lunch after a visit to Cawdor Castle. Staff was attentive and helpful, but not intrusive. We had a pleasant table by the window. We husband had the Steak and Ale Pie, and I was adventurous and had the Scotch Egg. It came with a tasty beet relish, and some undressed salad. I can say... More

I often have lunch with visitors at the Cawdor Tavern en-route to Cawdor Castle and this was one time when we had dinner in the evening. The menu is different to the lunch menu but still a great selection of excellent dishes. The atmosphere is very pleasant. We dined early and it was quite but gradually people came in so... More

It has been many many years since we last ate here and what a mistake that has been. I had wood pigeon with wild mushrooms, wilted spinach and rosemary scented jus to start with. The wood pigeon was cooked to perfection and the jus was just delicious. For my main meal i had Scottish sea bream resting on a chive... More

We had dinner for 5 friends here on a Friday night, expecting good things from the reviews and awards. The food was, unfortunately, average. Our order was forgotten and then brought out after we asked after it, fed up of waiting; as a result it suffered from being kept under the hot lamps and was overdone. The service, perhaps because...
