For an authentic taste of Scotlands islands and Highlands look no further than River House, a beautiful restaurant on the banks of the River Ness overlooking the Grieg Street bridge to the Free North Church. The restaurants spectacular views are complemented by the casual sophistication of the dining room, a comfortable and unpretentious space with timeless design and a warm, cosy atmosphere which invites you to relax and really enjoy your dinner. Dedicated to sourcing the best possible ingredients from the surrounding areas, the River House kitchen cooks each dish to order in the open plan kitchen, using fresh, seasonal produce prepared in such a way that individual flavours shine through. Amazing food and service

Lucky to get the last table for 2 on a busy Saturday night. Chef / owner gave us a wave on arrival and later was keen to ask how our meal had been. Staff were very attentive and pleasant and knowledgeable about the menu. It was very difficult to choose from an amazing menu but think we made a... read more

Recommended at last minute to try here and so glad we did as our hotel offerings looked expensive and bland in comparison. A blowy, wet Thursday night saw us blown in the door just before 6pm, we were the only ones in so early but given a cheery welcome and a cosy table. The place filled up after 7pm with... More

Great restaurant set right on the river... quaint and very intermit... Amazing food and wine/beer... I had the oysters for starters and my husband had scallops. Came out quickly and the shot of Loch Ness ale with my oysters was a bonus... Main was just as yummy... I wish I could have eaten more... 5 star service all the way...... More

Found this restaurant on Trip Advisor and read some of the glowing reviews. Went there on a Friday evening and had the same kind of experience. Can't say enough about it. Food was excellent ... awesome soup and seafood! The service was good, nice location along the river ... probably the best meal we had during a two week trip... More

Visited the River House for the first time on Saturday Night whilst on a week end break in Inverness, and I'm glad we found it on Tripadvisor, and booked before we went. A small homely restaurant with open plan kitchen area where you can watch everything taking place. Mainly a fish restaurant with excellent, scallops and mussels, I chose the... More

First visit on a Friday evening. Very impressed. I had fish. Not a large portion but a good size. The young waitress was excellent. I plan to go again the next time I am in Inverness. Great views of the river.

I started off with the scallops. I was a little skeptical about them being served with lentils, fearing they would have nothing to add but pasty blandness. I was so wrong. They were just right to temper the richness of the scallops with the saltiness of the pancetta to forge the perfect starter. Then, I had the rib-eye steak. Nicely... More

I've eaten here several times and I love it...First impressions beyond the mystery of the velvet curtain (which gives the effect of stepping into a Parisian bistro) are of garlic, butter and super fresh seafood.. The hustle and bustle of an open small kitchen staffed by some first class chef.s gives the place a dynamic, authentic feeling . I had... More

This is a charming small restaurant, served by one very able and lovely waitress. My husband faced the kitchen and was fascinated by the way Chef and his helper worked together. We didnt want a starter but I adore scallops - and they were very happy to adapt the starter accordingly - and Himself had mussels ina provencal sauce. Both... More
