For an authentic taste of Scotlands islands and Highlands look no further than River House, a beautiful restaurant on the banks of the River Ness overlooking the Grieg Street bridge to the Free North Church. The restaurants spectacular views are complemented by the casual sophistication of the dining room, a comfortable and unpretentious space with timeless design and a warm, cosy atmosphere which invites you to relax and really enjoy your dinner. Dedicated to sourcing the best possible ingredients from the surrounding areas, the River House kitchen cooks each dish to order in the open plan kitchen, using fresh, seasonal produce prepared in such a way that individual flavours shine through. Though mainly Scottish in heritage the River Houses recipes also take inspiration from international cuisine with, in particular, a nod to French cookery woven in to many of the creative, modern dishes. Wines are carefully selected to complement the River House menu, providing a good, but not overwhelming, choice of labels.

Almost very good!

The setting is inviting and cosy, the staff are friendly and the menu has local Scottish appeal in many of its items but for me it just falls short of being good. The space is very tight and instead of deciding to do a certain number of covers well they went for numbers; consequently 3 of us were... read more

Far and away the best sea food I have had in Scotland. The fact that we have eaten here four or five times in the past year or two stands testimony to how much we think of the food. The open plan kitchen is spotless, the staff are welcoming friendly and Unpretentious, they don't have to be as the food... More

You know you had a great dinner when you have 2 courses and a desert without feeling you're about to explode at the end :-) The food was exceptional, served in right portions and accompanied by great kindness of staff and the chef himself. The pavlova was heavenly! Thanks

We have eaten dinner here and came for lunch yesterday to celebrate a birthday. The restaurant is beautifully laid out with a lovely relaxed atmosphere, not in the least bit stuffy, but care taken and very individual with a warm ambience. Alfie the owner and chef looked after us so well, with a relaxed attentiveness. A selection of 5 starters... More

This restaurant is by the river and is quite small and intimate with a very nice ambience. We both had fish dishes and they were beautifully presented and delicious. There were meat options available as well for those not keen on fish. Well worth making a visit.

An absolutely amazing place to eat. The food was simply outstanding and the service brilliant. We were treated like royalty and had a fantastic evening. If you are after a special place to eat this has to be your first choice.
