Description: For an authentic taste of Scotlands islands and Highlands look no further than River House, a beautiful restaurant on the banks of the River Ness overlooking the Grieg Street bridge to the Free North Church. The restaurants spectacular views are complemented by the casual sophistication of the dining room, a comfortable and unpretentious space with timeless design and a warm, cosy atmosphere which invites you to relax and really enjoy your dinner. Dedicated to sourcing the best possible ingredients from the surrounding areas, the River House kitchen cooks each dish to order in the open plan kitchen, using fresh, seasonal produce prepared in such a way that individual flavours shine through. Though mainly Scottish in heritage the River Houses recipes also take inspiration from international cuisine with, in particular, a nod to French cookery woven in to many of the creative, modern dishes. Wines are carefully selected to complement the River House menu, providing a good, but not overwhelming, choice of labels.

I went with friends to the River House while staying in Inverness last November 2013. The chef and owner, Alfie came and greeted us personally. I cannot fault either the food or the service, both of which were superb. Living in Melbourne I set a pretty high standard regarding good food and service so I was delighted that the River... More

We are regular visitors to River House and it never dissapoints. The owner/chef,Alfie, and his staff are always friendly and take the time to have a chat. On this occasion it was to celebrate our Anniversary. We were provided with a complimentary glass of bubbly to welcome us, which was a lovely touch. We're real seafood fans and went for... More

We lived around the corner from the river house for years and although my boyfriend was keen to visit I hadn't paid it much attention, any way, to celebrate moving away my boyfriend arranged for a special meal to be made. He had a bottle of wine which he had been saving and the chef designed a menu around it.It... More

Within past three days, we ate at Inverlochy Castle and Three Chimneys. This topped both of them. Very enjoyable evening. At 1/3 the price of the other two.

The food was fantastic, excellent value for money. The menu is maybe a little limited, in particular the early evening 2 course, but wasn't an issue for myself. There was a limited choice of beers, but they had the local 'loch ness' brewery selection which kept me happy, the 'hoppyness' is a fantastically refreshing drink.good wine menu too. Quite a small restaurant,very... More

This restaurant is highly recommended. The staff was very friendly and answered all the questions we had. The sirloin steak I had was great, the pepper sauce spicy but not too strong, the green beans still 'al dente' and as a plus the dishes were warm. The halibut my wife had came in a tasty combination with salmon crusted potatoes... More

My family and I had a wonderful meal at this restaurant. Small, quaint and cozy, the food was comforting and traditionally Scottish-- fresh fish, great beer and very nice service. My favorite in Inverness and would recommend to anyone seeking a trendy yet approachable and traditional dining experience.
