For an authentic taste of Scotlands islands and Highlands look no further than River House, a beautiful restaurant on the banks of the River Ness overlooking the Grieg Street bridge to the Free North Church. The restaurants spectacular views are complemented by the casual sophistication of the dining room, a comfortable and unpretentious space with timeless design and a warm, cosy atmosphere which invites you to relax and really enjoy your dinner. Dedicated to sourcing the best possible ingredients from the surrounding areas, the River House kitchen cooks each dish to order in the open plan kitchen, using fresh, seasonal produce prepared in such a way that individual flavours shine through. Though mainly Scottish in heritage the River Houses recipes also take inspiration from international cuisine with, in particular, a nod to French cookery woven in to many of the creative, modern dishes. Wines are carefully selected to complement the River House menu, providing a good, but not overwhelming, choice of labels.

Myself and my partner were in Inverness for my birthday. We checked trip advisor the week before we left and both decided this place was for us. Once we arrived we were very friendly greeted by the staff and shown our seats, the restaurant is quite small but in a good way it was warm and cosy and you are... More

The restaurant is across the river from the centre of town - but only a short walk. We parked in the Eastgate Centre and walked. We were lucky to get in as there was only room for 2. Very good modern food menu. We chose Kyle of Bute Oysters. They were freshly shucked, as you might expect, and still very... More

Ate dinner here on an overnight visit to Inverness. We didn't have any reservation but we took our chances. They gave us a table, luckily. Ordered the fish special and it was cooked perfectly! It's a bit pricey but you are getting what you pay for.

Enjoyed our visit here. Food was well prepared and presented and the staff were efficient. Prices slightly on the high side but not enough such that they would prevent me from returning when next in Inverness. Not much on offer for vegetarians and I could see nothing for vegans. This restaurant is small so make sure you have booked.

Definitely our favourite restaurant in this part of Scotland, and there are some worthy competitors. Scallops always a great choice, large ones from Harris Isle, cooked perfectly. There's now a choice of mussels, so I tried the Thai sauce - delicious creamy coconut with fresh Thai flavours and a bit of heat. Bouillabaisse was excellent with plenty of shellfish and... More

We were in Inverness for a 3 day break and discovered The River House on our first day. Booked a table for that night and were so thrilled we did. The restaurant was cosy but not cramped, the waitresses were warm and chatty, and the food was delicious. Alan, the chef, took the time to speak with us which was... More

We had a really good meal here. The mussels were excellent as was the crab. I don't know how the chef knocks out all this delicious food all by himself. But he is a proficient cook who can obviously multi-task better than most!!

The moment you walk into this exceptional little restaurant you sense you are in for a great experience. From that moment on your raised expectation's are met and exceeded. The décor is classy, the service attentive and the menu an exquisite selection for seafood lovers. Top quality Scottish seafood, subtle flavour and perfect presentation. The Chef Alfie is an engaging... More

Ordered the mussels to be told they were off the menu and switched to the charcuterie which was superb. We both had the posh surf and turf which was a little overpowered by the lemon which seemed to have been grilled on top of the steak. Nice piece of meat but all we could taste was the lemon..... New team... More
