Description: For an authentic taste of Scotlands islands and Highlands look no further than River House, a beautiful restaurant on the banks of the River Ness overlooking the Grieg Street bridge to the Free North Church. The restaurants spectacular views are complemented by the casual sophistication of the dining room, a comfortable and unpretentious space with timeless design and a warm, cosy atmosphere which invites you to relax and really enjoy your dinner. Dedicated to sourcing the best possible ingredients from the surrounding areas, the River House kitchen cooks each dish to order in the open plan kitchen, using fresh, seasonal produce prepared in such a way that individual flavours shine through. Though mainly Scottish in heritage the River Houses recipes also take inspiration from international cuisine with, in particular, a nod to French cookery woven in to many of the creative, modern dishes. Wines are carefully selected to complement the River House menu, providing a good, but not overwhelming, choice of labels.

Highly recommended we made reservations for a Tuesday evening at 8:00. We arrived on time and we're seated promptly but then the server didn't come to the table for ten minutes. She gave us menus and a wine list saying that several items on this limited list were unavailable and then ran off before I could even ask a question.... More

We ate there last night and were delighted by the whole experience. The food was simply the best we have had in Inverness. Service was very good and the whole ambience was lovely. The menu is relatively small compared to others but the quality was out of this world. I normally don't have fish when out but the way this... More

We had an excellent dinner at the restaurant during an otherwise cold and dreary day in Inverness. We were warmly greeted by the owner and seated at a comfortable table. Appetizers, food, desert and wine were all very enjoyable. Our server had the whole restaurant to take care of and was understandably brief in her interactions, yet we were never... More

Excellent!! Small restaurant, but that helps give a great atmosphere. Seemed to be 2 in the kitchen and two serving, and that lead to great attentive service. And the food was really lovely. It does specialise in fish dishes, but it certainly delivers on that score. Not cheap, but if you like food and a great dining experience it's well... More

Stunning. I can't say much more. The restaurant has a wonderful ambiance and you can see into the kitchen which I always love (no way the chef can "hide"). The scallops would be up there with Gordon Ramsay's. My pavlova pudding was to die for. The waiter, Emile, really knows the menu and was able to advise appropriately on food... More

I was on a flying visit in and out of Inverness this August with my wife, and was looking for somewhere special to take her. I definitely found it! The setting is fantastic - such an intimate layout, we could have been dining alone (although the restaurant was fully booked - glad I had reserved ahead!) Such a rarity nowadays,... More

My wife dined her in July and had a marvellous meal and experience. The food is outstanding , fresh and prepared with a deft hand by the owner / chef. Spectacular. I must add the Pavlova is a great choice for dessert. A specialty , and just very well prepared and served. Waitress also a delight. This small setting by... More

We called at 1730 hours and got a table for 1930hours that night (please note: you need to make a reservation, a lot of people were turned away on the night). A lovely wee restaurant, staff were first class. Food was out of this world, all local produce. Not that expensive for what you get. Owner/chef was first class and... More
