Travelling back up towards Inverness, we came across the Oakwood Restaurant at Lochend. A "querky" little place with buckets of charm, wonderful food and a charming mine host - Gus. A day or two's notice by phone and his kitchen will provide exquisite vegan and vegetarian dishes. I was blown away by the dressing on my starter salad! The rest... More

Really well made food. Couldnt fault it at all. Scallops perfectly cooked. Deliciously rich mince and tatties and lambs liver in a beautiful gravy with buttery mash. I needed salt fory stroganoff but that is a personal taste thing. Overall would highly recommend.

Stopped on route from Skye to Inverness for a 'light bite', we had a baked potato with cheese and a brown tuna roll, both served with salad and a pot of tea £17.50 which, in my opinion, is overpriced. I am sure that the ingredients used by the Restaurant are very local and very fresh, however, I think that they... More

How do I find enough superlatives? I think that I should first make it clear that nothing about this restaurant is unsurprising and that in order to enjoy the experience diners should arrive with completely open minds. To kick off, the restaurant is in the same room as the local post office and gift shop near to Loch Ness and... More

Visited the Oakwool last night with three friends and, once again, had a brilliant meal, beautifully cooked and well presented. As they do not have a drinks licence, we had our own wine. It was good to see Gus back to the fore and in good form! Always a good meal guaranteed in this establishment, and I look forward to... More

First ate here 9 years ago when on our honeymoon and had a brilliant meal. At that time the 'shop' side of the estblishment was a quirky vintage, antique kind of shop. We visited again on a few occasions for afternoon tea, with kids and also my mother. When our youngest was having a moment about his sandwich, Gus made... More
