This was my husband and my second trip to the Oakwood. We first found it three years ago while driving through the highlands. This time, we made a special trip from Edinburgh just to have lunch there (that's 8 hours of drive time total for a single meal). It's worth it - it's that good. I strongly recommend the venison... My husband and I ate here four years ago, and we had such a splendid feast.....we never made a note of the name of this little gem and on subsequent visits to the area we had tried to locate it. So, much to our delight we happened upon it again! The food is just so tasty today we both had... More

We stopped at Dochgarroch on our final nights boat trip before returning to Inveness. the restaurant was only a 5 minute walk from our mooring and having read the info on the boat we knew to BYOB. Once you have taken in the quirky decor the vast menu offers plenty of selection with lots of seafood options. The owner was... More

Gus and Gabby have a winning combination with their little place in Inverness. Fabulous hospitality and Gabby is an outstanding cook. We loved the quaintness of the cafe which sneakily downplays the surprise you get at the meals that emerge from Gabby's kitchen. You have to try Gus' chocolate whiskey cheesecake. Just brilliant!

Myself and my family were taking a cruise on Loch Ness and decided to stop of for coffee and cake. I can honestly say I have never encountered such a rude abrasive man in my life. When we entered the establishment we were made to feel like we had intruded on his front room, and because of the cosy decor... More

The Oakwood is an incredible restaurant outside Loch Ness, Scotland. It is owned an operated by a local family (the mother, who is the chef, cooked for Aristotle Onassis aboard his yacht). Do yourself a favor and skip all the tourist traps in Loch Ness and go eat "Scotland's Real Food."

If you are a foodie, try this place. The hand written menu had items on it such as venison medallions in a reduction of port wine. As a chef's daughter, I was impressed.

This was a very unusual restaurant, we took visiting relatives and were somewhat apprehensive when we parked the cars but after a curt greeting we sat down to enjoy the large menu ranging from mince and tattoos to seafood and steaks. No license so bring your own wine (no corkage charge) The starters were lovely and the steaks best the... More

This was the setting for a very enjoyable birthday lunch. staff were very accommodating of our small three-year-old and we enjoyed an excellent and very good value three course meal. Not too much fuss. Good experience.
