We visited the restaurant in April after riding on the mountain railway and meeting my husband at the top with the 2 small dogs? We telephoned before visiting and was told the dogs would be welcome in the restaurant only to discover at the top of the mountain with nowhere else to go that they were not allowed in? My... More

If you don't want to carry your lunch around with you then this should do the trick. Considering it has what is essentially a captive audience it was reasonable value and most of my friends who bought the burger meal deals got more food than they were expecting. Certainly better value than the slope food in France. More modest options... More

How many eating places do you get to visit at this height and with such spectacular views- you have to compare like for like and no, its not a restaurant its a canteen style cafe at the top of a mountain - don't expect romantic dining or cordon bleu food ! Given the monopoly and the uniqueness I was expecting... More

For a start I'm not sure what some reviewers are expecting. It's a restaurant built to princaply cater for skiers and snowboarders 1,000m up a mountain. Things are going to be a little more expensive and every ski centre I've been to has the same cafe/canteen style service so you can eat quickly and get back out on the slopes.... More

We ate in this restaurant both days that we skied on Cairngorm Mountain. The food is good and locally sourced which we liked. There was good variety, from soup and hot meals to delicious cakes. It was ideal to refuel us during a day's skiing.

By no means a restaurant and the name is very misleading by using the word 'Dining' It is a without a doubt a canteen, the food is okay and you pay a high prices, £2 for a 500ml bottle of coke. However the lentil soup was surprisingly tasty. The building is very 1970's prefab, with a strange layout. The Christmas... More

The food here was poorer than expected. I ordered the burger, thinking that since it was locally sourced the quality would be good. The meat tasted like bread and the bun was dry. On the flip side, after a walk up the mountain, which was my experience, or a day skiing on the slopes, the fast canteen-style food does the... More

My family & I ate at the ptarmigan on a busy Sunday. It's very a canteen and not a restaurant like I had expected. We had macaroni cheese & chips & loved it. Food was hot & fresh.
