This is more like a cafeteria but well worth a visit for the view

We visited the Ptarmigan restaurant on top of the Cairngorms which is the UK’s highest restaurant, but it is more like a cafeteria. Although we did not eat we had warm drinks – coffee and the hot chocolate which I can recommend, was delicious. The older staff member who took our money never said... read more

Admittedly we came here during Feb half term so it was bound to be busy but it was a bit ridiculous. Picked my son up from ski school just outside at 12. Cued for 45 minutes to get food that was like a Luke warm school dinner yet cost £8 per dish and then my 5 year old and I... More

It's a great feature to have at the top of the mountain for visitors or snow sports enthusiasts fancying a bite to eat or drink. I love the soups very warming when temperatures are sometimes -15! I usually have a glass of white wine too. Fantastic views & good atmosphere

Please get more seating in the Ptarmigan or open up the mid station café again as the seating is not sufficient for the people on the hill!!!! Also what has happened with the food?? It was awful! the soup was vile and the chips were cold and limp. The standard I would have expected sadly lacked!

Came here on a clear day and the views were amazing which made up for the astronomical prices they charge for simple fare.

Having been up to the ptarmigan a few times and never tried the hot choc we took a trip up on the funicular to get one! The name hot choc mountain is spot on it is served in a huge cup & is piled high with mini marshmallows & whipped cream. When we got through the topping we were disappointed... More

We took the funicular railway up to the restaurant which, for us, was well worth the money. The restaurant itself is more like a self-service cafe but there is hot food and sandwiches, tea, coffee etc and the food was good. The views however, despite the poor weather on this occasion were simply stunning and well worth the trip. We... More

Self service with hot food furthest from check out then you have to wait quite a while to be served with tea/coffee so possibility of food getting cold when cafe is busy. Tasty soup and reasonably priced given location. Obviously the views are spectacular and the best thing about the restaurant. Tables were cleared quickly and there was a microwave... More

This is the highest restaurant in the uk ak at 1039m above sea level. The catering is essential cafe dinning which is nit to expensive considering it has to be delivered up a mountain. Views are spectacular. The tables were cleared and cleaned as they were vacated which is good. Food was cool due to the queuing and slow till... More
