Tourist trap?

The place was relatively empty at lunchtime, and despite being amply staffed, service was very slow. Dishes were OK, but nothing special. It feels like it mostly appears to tourists - locals probably know better than to return. On the plus side, it's inexpensive.

I moved out of Glasgow 30 years ago, I live in England. It's always a real treat to visit the Sauchiehall St tea rooms 2 or 3 times a year, I visited in February with a friend of mine who had never been before, we had a lovely lunch and the young girl on duty was delightful. I visited again... More

I have visited the Willow Tea Rooms several times over the last few years and it never disappoints. Enjoy fabulous food and drink while soaking up the beautiful Charles Rennie Mackintosh furnishing and architectural details. They have a wonderful choice of different teas and I like to try something new on each visit. The food is excellent with good size... More

This place was revived in the 1980s, and they did a good job. The best room is the De Luxe on the second floor, where Macintosh's gorgeous mirrored walls, doors and widows survive. The furniture is reproduction, though, and as uncomfortable as it is beautiful! Check out the original fireplaces and frieze on the ground floor too. I can't imagine... More

We had booked 6 weeks earlier for a 3 pm afternoon tea in the room de luxe - the room was beautiful. We asked to be seated in the vacant table at the window for a view of the street - only to be informed that it was reserved for a party at 4pm. We were located in the rear,... More

I am sorry that your visit was not as enjoyable as it should have been. We try and accommodate all requests for specific tables as best as we can and it is disappointing that on this occasion we did not manage this which certainly spoiled your visit for you. With regard to your sandwiches, one of our standard fillings is... More

We were here in Glasgow on a minibreak with the kids, the main reason being the Olly Murs Concert at the SSE Hydro. As usual with us, we planned our visit carefully and thought that we would round off the trip with a nice afternoon tea. We had googled this before leaving home, and found that on various sites, the... More

I am sorry that your visit did not live up to your expectations. Planning restrictions mean that we are not currently in a position to operate a tea room on the ground floor. The ground floor was previously occupied for over 30 years by Henderson’s and when that company ceased trading we took over the lease of the whole building... More

I was delighted to find that The Willow Tearoom offers a gluten-free afternoon tea and amazed at the reasonable price too! It was wonderful and really made my stay in Glasgow. Delicious sandwiches, homemade shortbread and scone, with jam and cream, and choice of cake! All served in a truly amazing location with such a rich history. I commented to... More

I have to say that I read the reviews prior to my visit and I was prepared for the worst. NO WAY! The shop was a little haven of nice gifts ranging in price from a couple of pounds to the sky's the limit but all of excellent quality. The tearoom on the first floor was well set out and... More

We visited the tea room in our tour of mackintosh buildings and sadly have realised that there is something not quite right about how the place is managed. The shop at ground floor needs a bit ov revamping, the way merchandising and stools are set give to the space a sad looking feeling. Carpet needs redoing and lighting too. Upstairs the... More

Thank you for your comments on your visit which unfortunately did not live up to your expectations. We try to make the atmosphere as welcoming as we can within the existing limitations of the building. The layout is based on the original Tea Room from the early 1900s and this is appreciated by many of our visitors. With regard to... More

I had been here years ago and found it quaint and lovely but I just think there's something lacking. It was cold so I wouldn't recommend it on an cold day. The food I felt was just heated up in a microwave, although it was edible. The cakes I remember were amazing, but these were just like any other tea... More

I am disappointed to read that your visit was not as you had expected. We bake the majority of our cakes in house and receive a lot of favourable comments on these, indeed many have been on our menu for a number of years reflecting their continued popularity. More
