A venue where left and right handers can exist in harmony without fear of persecution. A licensed land of milk & honey where the ping-pong is plentiful the computer games are retro, the cocktails arrive in gramophones and the strawberry mojitos cost nought but 3 pounds. Vintage fairs on Sundays, sewing clubs on Tuesdays, bingo on Wednesdays plus a host of other relatively interesting tit-bits. Happy days. If you're into this kind of thing..

Veggie banquet

I came here for the three course veggie banquet with my boyfriend the other week. I have been to the book club for drinks a few times but never eaten there. To start I had the beetroot & walnut tart, I don't usually like beetroot but wanted to try something different. It was really nice & quite... read more

Recommended by the youngish desk clerk at the Premier Inn, it's a funky place with hip music- -some organ, drum, bass, and guitar jazz, Stevie Wonder, Jamie Cullen--and a young, after-work crowd. The sound system was good and the ambiance university and post-uni. The food was good, chicken and mushroom pie in a tarragon sauce for me, beef burger with... More

Visited for lunch. Although we sat outside, the inside was quirky and we will be back to sit inside to explore. Burger was very good and halloumi and waldorf salad was excellent. Reasonably priced too. Quick service.

We like going here, there is always a really atmosphere. There are lots of places to sit , boardgames to play , a table tennis table set up and even a retro games console, in short you will not be bored . i only watch rather than take part but it is nice to be around all the buzz. This... More

Go here regular with friends and family. The food is great- I love the extra vegetarian options available and the cocktails are fabulous. Love the vintage tea cups and the eccentric decor. The only thing that would be good is if the music could be a little quieter. We asked for it to be turned down but were refused because... More

Hi elliephanty1989, It's great to hear you love Bookclub and have enjoyed our fresh homemade food & cocktails. We do like to play our tunes loud but usually we try to accommodate requests if it's a few decibels too high. Next time you're down if you request a quieter table our team are good at finding the best spot for... More

We had lunch in this quirky but excellent restaurant today. The staff were really attentive when we needed them to be and in the background when we didn't. They were fast with the bill when we discovered we couldn't linger for puddings but had to leave promptly to get back to work and catch trains. The food was excellent with... More

Nice and surprising interior! Modern coctails. Strawberry Mojitos (made of vodka or gin) cost only three pounds. Worth visiting!

Not crazy about the food but the bars good, comfy seats, good atmosphere and has cool quirks like the retro games. Its different but its not trying so hard to be different it becomes ridiculous like some places.
