Tucked away on Thistle Street, Iris has been a welcome addition to the Edinburgh restaurant scene. This chic little bistro - with its designer wallpaper, banquette seating and rough stone walls – has an intimate, cosmopolitan vibe, and is popular with a discreet and sophisticated creative crowd. The modern European menu is guaranteed to impress, we love the roast duck breast with fresh raspberries and Drambuie; chicken supreme stuffed with langoustines served with a garlic and herb buerre blanc; and the roasted quail with spicy potatoes served with an orange and rocket salad. Ideal for stylish working lunches, and informal evening meals, Iris also has an extensive wine list with up to 17 bottles for under £20.

lovely Valentine's meal

Myself and my girlfriend booked in for Valentine's Day at the iris. We planned a trip up to Edinburgh to watch the rugby so I knew all the best restaurants would be booked up... Superb meal for 8, everyone cleaned their plates! Service was quite slow but I like a break in between courses so didn't mind at all. Wine was also lovely.

my first visit to this small and atmospheric restaurant that offered a great menu, service and wine list but the highlight was the quality and freshness of the food. They offer a 2 or 3 course lunch menu served through until 7.00pm (arround £16) and then alacarte in the evenings after 7.00pm. It is so easy to be caught and... More

What a lovely place for a lunch. The food was delicious and the service friendly and efficient. The special lunch menu had loads to choose from and was reasonably priced. We will definitely return!

Went last night for my birthday. Just husband and I. The food was nice. Not tell all your friends about it outstanding, but very tasty and enjoyable. We had the window seat in the main area which was lovely. The service was a bit too focused on simply taking your order. The staff didn't engage with us at all, no... More

Researching a nice restaurant to eat at on a cold evening, we discovered that a lot of places in Edinburgh are closed on a Monday evening. Luckily for us 'Iris' was open and we booked a table. We received a lovely welcome and were shown to our table. The wine list is reasonably priced, we got a nice bottle of... More

After a long days shopping and a trip to the Beautician and hairdresser it was time for a little Mamma and daughter time. My daughter had previously eaten at Iris with her twin sister and was very happy with the fayre. When we entered the restaurant it looked as if we would be the only guests but we were directed...
