Tucked away on Thistle Street, Iris has been a welcome addition to the Edinburgh restaurant scene. This chic little bistro - with its designer wallpaper, banquette seating and rough stone walls – has an intimate, cosmopolitan vibe, and is popular with a discreet and sophisticated creative crowd. The modern European menu is guaranteed to impress, we love the roast duck breast with fresh raspberries and Drambuie; chicken supreme stuffed with langoustines served with a garlic and herb buerre blanc; and the roasted quail with spicy potatoes served with an orange and rocket salad. Ideal for stylish working lunches, and informal evening meals, Iris also has an extensive wine list with up to 17 bottles for under £20.

Researching a nice restaurant to eat at on a cold evening, we discovered that a lot of places in Edinburgh are closed on a Monday evening. Luckily for us 'Iris' was open and we booked a table. We received a lovely welcome and were shown to our table. The wine list is reasonably priced, we got a nice bottle of... More

After a long days shopping and a trip to the Beautician and hairdresser it was time for a little Mamma and daughter time. My daughter had previously eaten at Iris with her twin sister and was very happy with the fayre. When we entered the restaurant it looked as if we would be the only guests but we were directed... We were in Edinburgh for the week and had tried a few nice places to eat, however when we accidentally stumbled across this little gem, we struck gold. Staff very attentive but not overzealous. We had the perfectly cooked scallops and pigs cheek for starter. The most succulent duck and lamb for mains. Then chocolate and beetroot cake and cheese... More

We re-visited Iris for our Hogmanay dinner, after a memorable first visit and again it didn't disappoint. We can say with confidence that the lamb loin main course is one of the best dishes we've had in our life. Everything about it, is perfection & you certainly won't leave hungry after it! Another pleasant surprise came when we saw the... More

Went to iris for a second time after a previous visit last year . We all really enjoyed the meal. The duck spring rolls were delicious and the chicken with mushrooms in red wine sauce was amazing . The lamb casserole was also delicious . All meals beautifully presented and the lunch menu price is a terrific deal . Would... More

Had a wonderful meal here on Hogmanay. This was our first visit to Iris and we were not disappointed. I had stuffed artichoke to start. It was very tasty and an ideal starter. Three of us had duck with drambuie and fresh raspberries as a main. The duck was so tender and really good. The waitresses were very friendly and... More

Visited last night with friends. My second visit here and sat in the exact same seat. Risotto balls followed by chicken in cream sauce with king prawn. Sides of fries, sweet potato and asparagus to share between us. Tasted delicious. One pal had the baked sea bass , the other the lamb in filo. Both reported them to be excellent... More

The principal reason we chose this hidden gem was due to a recent previous visit by my wife. From the moment you opened the door you could sense the ambiance of this quaint eat out hidden treasure. The young waitress, in particular, serving practically the whole restaurant, was impeccably efficient throughout our experience! Warm welcome, constant, but without over attentive.... More

Seven of us had a last-minute lunch today, with splendid starters, steaks (all cooked to perfection) and a wide choice of desserts. Well priced and good service. Warmly recommended.
