Description: Tucked away on Thistle Street, Iris has been a welcome addition to the Edinburgh restaurant scene. This chic little bistro - with its designer wallpaper, banquette seating and rough stone walls – has an intimate, cosmopolitan vibe, and is popular with a discreet and sophisticated creative crowd. The modern European menu is guaranteed to impress, we love the roast duck breast with fresh raspberries and Drambuie; chicken supreme stuffed with langoustines served with a garlic and herb buerre blanc; and the roasted quail with spicy potatoes served with an orange and rocket salad. Ideal for stylish working lunches, and informal evening meals, Iris also has an extensive wine list with up to 17 bottles for under £20.

A few minutes from the overcrowded bustling streets of central Edinburgh is Thistle Street, a small street running parallel with George and Queen Street. Iris had been recommended to us and due to its ideal location we booked a table. Small lovely homely restaurant with very attentive staff. We ate from the lunch menu which was a set menu, priced... Have visited Iris many times over the last few years and most recently with a friend I had not seen for a very long time. Thistle Street is ideal with it’s central location and was the ideal setting for catching up. The food was fabulous (sticky toffee pudding was amazing) as was the service - company wasn’t too bad either!... More

Lost count how many time we have been to the Iris. On this occasion, which was our 10th wedding anniversary, expected the same great food, services and atmosphere...it turned out we were pleasantly surprised....every mouth full of the wine and food nearly caused me to orgasm. The staff were amazing and most polite and down to earth young ladies by... More

We rocked up early on a Saturday night and although offered a table for a limited time we were not rushed in any way. The food that arrived was excellent, extremely well cooked and very tasty. There was also a good wine selection too. The staff were attentive but not overly fussy. Overall an excellent meal, we'll definitely return and... More

For some reason have always resisted going here when suggested.....no real idea why and now realise have missed a trick. Saturday night booking with friends, booked in advance, pleasant attitude on arrival and shown to a nice corner table by window. No issues at all re food choices. Excellent portion sizes and choices including daily specials. No complaints....starters included king... More

We try to eat here every year when we come to the fringe.I think for about 7 years we have never had a less than excellent meal. Staff may have changed but the cooking and service is always consistently first class. We will be back.

We've been for lunch several times, and, on our most recent visit in August, we were as satisfied as ever. There is a good range of choice on the lunch menu, and the food is an attractive combination of interesting flavours with quality produce. Service is always pleasant and attentive, and the value for money is exceptional.

We are Fringe regulars and had been to this restaurant 3 years running on the recommendation of our B&B host. Food is still excellent., but despite arriving at 7pm we were placed on a table for 2 next to the toilets and a loud party of 8. We like buzzy atmospheres but we could see this was going to be...
