Description: Tucked away on Thistle Street, Iris has been a welcome addition to the Edinburgh restaurant scene. This chic little bistro - with its designer wallpaper, banquette seating and rough stone walls – has an intimate, cosmopolitan vibe, and is popular with a discreet and sophisticated creative crowd. The modern European menu is guaranteed to impress, we love the roast duck breast with fresh raspberries and Drambuie; chicken supreme stuffed with langoustines served with a garlic and herb buerre blanc; and the roasted quail with spicy potatoes served with an orange and rocket salad. Ideal for stylish working lunches, and informal evening meals, Iris also has an extensive wine list with up to 17 bottles for under £20.

A hidden jewel, from a group of fussy picky foodies this meal was excellent, 5 people, 3 courses each, 12 different plates of food all excellent, can't rate high enough to be honest, lovely waitresses, small misunderstanding with prosecco but sorted. I strongly advise a visit.

I would recommend Iris for a ladies who lunch outing. The food was lovely and even though it was a busy Saturday lunch service we were well looked after.

We happened into Iris on Thistle Street, and couldn't be happier. A pea-mint soup that was the best I've ever had, and a smoked partridge salad that was out of this world. The greens in the salad sang. The service was attentive, humane, professional, efficient, AND friendly. Along with wine the bill was only 25 pounds for two, which is... More

We were looking for somewhere to dine in Edinburgh on Sunday evening and called in to the Iris on Thistle Street. The waitress was very friendly and quickly offered us a table for two. The restaurant is very modern, clean and for us very relaxed. There was a really good list of food on offer as well a list of... More

in an area we know well. We were 4 for a birthday celebration dinner. Anna was our waitress. The decor is brown leaf fabric and bare wood tables. The menu has about 7 or 8 starter choices and the same number of mains. In this instance all 4 of us chose different starters and mains. Starters were, mussels, prawns, crab... More

I have to admit I've walked past the door to this restaurant hundreds of times and never ventured inside until now and all I can say is "Wow" The decor is beautiful, the staff are friendly and helpful. And once our food arrived "wow". There were 11 of us in our party and each one of us was catered for... More

Only been here twice in 3 years but will be coming more often. Took friends who had not visited and they were impressed. Good size portions, very tasty, good selection. Only negative was that the coffee machine was broken and no decaf or anything other else. Ask for a table away from the main door when booking.

A little restaurant hidden in the lanes of Edinburgh. Came her with my cousins. For starters i ordered the king prawns cooked in chilli, corriander and garlic £6.90. They were generous with the prawns. Flavour was disappointing, bland. It was drowned it alot of oil? With bits of garlic, corriander and chilli in the little dish. Not good presentation. They... 1.Evening to celebrate a friends 60th birthday spoiled at the start by one of our party being asked to leave as she had brought her new baby. The baby was asleep; but needed to be with Mum in case it woke to breast feed. 2. They had little concept of coeliac disease & the need to have gluten free food.... More
