Description: Tucked away on Thistle Street, Iris has been a welcome addition to the Edinburgh restaurant scene. This chic little bistro - with its designer wallpaper, banquette seating and rough stone walls – has an intimate, cosmopolitan vibe, and is popular with a discreet and sophisticated creative crowd. The modern European menu is guaranteed to impress, we love the roast duck breast with fresh raspberries and Drambuie; chicken supreme stuffed with langoustines served with a garlic and herb buerre blanc; and the roasted quail with spicy potatoes served with an orange and rocket salad. Ideal for stylish working lunches, and informal evening meals, Iris also has an extensive wine list with up to 17 bottles for under £20.

I happened upon this little restaurant without knowing anything about it beforehand. I was pleased with my lunch there. The restaurant offers a good set price lunch menu (2 courses for about 14 pound) and I thought there was good variety in the choices. Service was also good.

Ate here today for the first time after hearing lots of good reports about it. What an impressive lunch spot offering great value for money & delicious food. We ate off the lunch menu & enjoyed 2 courses for £13.90. Delightful pork spring rolls & salmon with mousse as starters then both had the chicken with tomato, manchego cheese &... More

We had a fine experience at Iris, arriving at 17:30 pm for dinner. The restaurant still had their smaller portion three course prix fixe lunch menu available, so we ordered from that. We had a scallops starter, roast pork main, and then dark chocolate brownie for dessert. In addition, we had a nice bottle of Spanish Rioja wine and two... More

Have eaten here a few times, usually lunch and the reason I keep coming back is all in the title of the review. Scallops starter was a standard recipe but well executed with no scrimping on the scallops. Salmon main course also good.

Children not allowed. I made an on-line booking for a table of 6 and explained it was for 4 adults and 2 children. The booking was accepted. I was surprised when I arrived to be told that the restaurant does not allow children. So avoid this restaurant if you have children as they are not allowed. I think the web... More

The location of this lovely understated restaurant was great, in a quieter street just a few minutes away from the city centre. We were actually on our way to another restaurant when we chanced upon this one and decided to change our plans. We were not disappointed. The menu was very interesting - the sort where there were several choices... More

When in Edinburgh we always try to eat in this Resturant, the quality of the food is excellent ( Mussels as a starter to die for), main courses are equally as good lamb, or chicken or the fish everything in this Resturant is top quality.

We discovered this place 2 years ago on a wet August evening, the staff were great about seating us despite having no booking. We couldn't wait to return again the following year, the ribeye is that good! Lovely atmosphere & friendly staff.

Wandered in on a busy Saturday night. We're were greeted warmly and received great service. I had the sea bass and my wife had salmon. Both were very good. Topped off with a traditional sticky toffee pudding. Nice atmosphere.
