Kismot makes excellent Indian food - the service is great as well and staff are very pleasant and helpful. Unlike some other Indian restaurants, the food feels lighter without losing any of the flavours.

Came here for the kismot killer after reading about it in the national press and must say that the reports were no exaggeration. To say that the dish is a hot curry is a bit like saying Kim Kardashian has a bit of a bottom on her. This is a challenge that is of immense proportions and I can honestly... More

Excellent service in this family run restaurant. Food was all freshly cooked and flavours immense. I went for Mama s speciality chicken, fell off the bone, delicious. Haggis naan and scrumptious side dishes a must try.

I think we must have hit them on a really bad night as the food did not live up to any of the good reviews on Tripadvisor. We walked there from the city centre and we were looking forward to a good curry. The popadoms were stale the chutney was good and rescued that course. I had lamb sheek kebab... More

My wife and I had a regular visitor friend in late November, and we were looking for somewhere to eat out on a Sunday night via a convenient bus route from the Liberton area. Edinburgh being what it is, even this supposed off peak season proved to be problematic, everywhere seemed to be mobbed, but we managed to get a... More

As a self-professed curry & Indian food lover, this is one of the nicest curry places in Edinburgh! The only reason for rating it 4/5 is because it isn't price-friendly for students. Our favourites would be the mom & dad specials - they really make you feel right at home (even if curry isn't something you usually have back home!)... More

Christmas night out with a large group of friends - decided to go for an Indian this year and it was a great idea! The restaurant had no trouble seating 14 of us and a buggy and were friendly and attentive throughout. We all ordered different combinations of curry, rice, naan and starters. The food was delicious and there was... More

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighborhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighborhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
