Great food

The food was excellent. The mint sauce that is served with pakora could be bottled and sold - perfect.

When it first opened Kismot was a fantastic restaurant the food was amazing and some of the staff were always very welcoming. It was more of a family restaurant back then. Over the years it has really dropped in standard both food taste and customer service as it became more of a commercial restaurant. My friends and I used to... More

This is my 5th visit to Kismot and it was just as fantastic as always! The staff are very welcoming and couldn't do any more to make the meal more enjoyable. My girlfriend had the vegetarian iron-bruhna, whilst I had the protein passanda with chicken. Both were excellent (as usual) and the best curry I've had. The peshwari naans are... More

I had the special lamb made by 'dad'. It was meant to be limited and I had to wait a bit but excellent flavour without being super hot. There is the option of the killer if you want it. The TV appearances are on continuous loop so beware of basking in past glories. Its not fine dining but if you... More

Visited gurkha as recommended by friend. Everything from the food and service was first class. I could not fault anything , well priced. we will definitely return for what I would consider a memorable dining experience.

Visited Kismot for friends birthday. Haven't been for a good 6/8 months. First thing we noticed is the fresh decor. Greeted by new member of staff who was very polite and very friendly, fits in great with the ethos of the restaurant. Food was phenomenol, fresh, full of flavour and very quick. Regardless of how long between trips always end... More

We had read the reviews and as curry lovers we were very disappointed. Don't get me wrong the service was attentive with nothing too much trouble. When we pulled up I thought it was a take away, minimal and boring decor. Tables set more like a cafe not a resturaunt. Bring your own bottle was strange we hadn't prepared for... More

Had meant to visit Kismot for quite some time. Was a little surprised at the lack of intimacy with the interior / furnishings. The place had just had a coat of paint internally and the smell of the paint - which in restaurant surroundings these days is a little old fashioned - was everywhere - a little overpowering!. Staff were... More

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighborhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighborhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
