Great take-away next door

We popped in here for some fish and chips before catching our train. I had hoped to get some fish and chips in my home town just outside Edinburgh. However, it was closed. So on way to Edinburgh, I remembered there was a takeaway near the Playhouse, which I have visited in my younger days. Luckily... read more

We couldn't believe the attitude of the 2 waiters, their body language said "I would rather be tipping these pizzas over your head along with the bottle of wine rather than serving it to you at your table", we have never experienced such rude staff before, normally in Italian restaurants the staff are so happy, those 2 definitely need to... Poor service, rude staff, unbelievably awkward experience. It was our first night in Edinburgh and we wanted to eat something quickly as we had been out the whole day, we were literally starving and we ordered a pizza each. The waiter was really rude, he appeared really annoyed while we ordered and he replied to a single question with a... More

When my wife and I are in Edinburgh to the Playhouse for a show we always eat here, it's well priced and the staff as so helpful and with it being just straight accross the road it's in a perfect spot.

I was pretty tired and I wanted to grab some good food before leaving Scotland, so I ordered a pizza, which was awesome and delicious. This place is very near to Coach station. There was a 50th birthday celebration and i love it!

Went for a late lunch with a friend and we had a wonderful meal. The service was so lovey and friendly and the food was absolutely delicious. The price was very reasonable considering we had three courses and a bottle of lovely wine. If you are looking for an authentic Italian meal in Edinburgh with quick service, I highly recommend!!

I say neither good nor bad, because this restaurant is average in all respects. The food is passable. The staff are courteous but not friendly. There's nothing here that will upset you, but there's nothing that will delight you either.

If I'd read the reviews rather than chance a visit, I'd have saved my self the trouble of posting this. You can't mess up garlic mushrooms, but my god- you can make beef canellomiI taste awful with a tiny strip of tots topper style meat paste! Avoid!

Have heard good things about Giuliano's but I was very disappointed. What the menu describes is not what you get and feel the waiting staff are uninterested. I ordered Panzeroti ai Crostacei (fresh pasta stuffed with crayfish & ricotta with a selection of mixed sautéed shellfish), I specifically asked what shellfish was on it and was told prawns & mussels... Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
