On our arrival in Edinburgh we had a quick lunch here -- and liked it so much we went back the following evening. Obviously family run -and it shows .Great varied menu , extensive wine list and fantastic staff. Always packed .Pretty much faultless. The food is Italian fare at its very best. Well impressed.

Have eaten in many italian restaurants and if you're in Edinburgh it's the one to choose. Amazing locally sourced, quality steaks at fantastic prices compliment an extensive italian menu. The staff are friendly and efficient and can't do enough to make the whole experience a real treat!! Four of us had a lovely meal here booked by my son-in-law who... More

We stayed in the holiday inn express on Saturday night and as we were all tired after a long train journey we decided not to go to far to eat. The receptionist at the hotel said we could get a 10% discount at the Italian restaurant next door so we decided to try it. This must have been the best... More

Visited Giuliano's for dinner before going to the theatre & had a fantastic meal, starters, main course with sides & desserts were lovely. Only one wee criticism, I drink rose wine & they only have one choice, a wee Zinfandel on the menu would be great.

We got a last minute reservation on a Sunday night. Service was really good, the food was really tasty and the prices very reasonable. Although the place was packed (and it's quite large) and people were being turned away, the service was still personal.

Disinterested staff, very rude Manager (or owner) at the entrance, leading by (very bad) example, food very bland - this used to be a good restaurant but seems to have become very complacent

I love authentic pizza. The key is the dough. Giuliano's pizza is uniformly circular and I suspect not freshly made on the premises. It's slightly stodgy and the toppings were disappointing.

Booked this for a pre show at the Playhouse. Expected a meal deal. Sat in a café not a restaurant setting. Food was good. Wine expensive for what was on offer. Waiters wear denim under long aprons. Head waiter/possible owner is so patronising. No bread and oil on table while waiting 20 minutes for the meal. certainly not value for... More

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
