Description: Relocated from Castle Douglas to Leith (lucky for us), The Plumed Horse is the brainchild of superstar Chef/Proprietor Tony Borthwick who earned the restaurant a Michelin Star in 2001. Although the move to Leith has meant giving up the star it can’t possibly be too long before the Plumed Horse is decorated again. Stylishly simple, the restaurant is all white walls, white linen and light and airy space, the ideal backdrop to an evening of gastronomic delights. The imaginative menu has lost nothing in its relocation, still boasting impressively modern cuisine with a good classical twist and presentation which almost stops you digging in with that fork. The Plumed Horse’s star has certainly not fallen

We went here for my 30th birthday weekend, after a night at Fonab Castle... where the food was sublime. It is due to Fonab that this review only gets 4*, as the food just wasn't as good. That being said, it was still extremely delicious. It is haute cuisine, there is no doubt. The canapés to start were fabulous, with... More

A bit delayed writing this review but I went to the Plumed Horse for Hogmanay and had the most fabulous dinner. Each course was fantastic in it's own right - go and enjoy a wonderful dining experience with one of Scotland's top chefs - Tony Borthwick.

Enjoyed a first-rate meal and entertainment to celebrate Burns Night. This was their first Burns' celebration, and first Sunday opening, so it was a night to savour. Looking forward to the same next year!

The food was spectacular. I myself was delighted with the meal, staff and service. After experiencing first hand Hakkisan-London, it not only compared but exceeded that same restraint.

Booked the Plumed Horse for a romantic dinner whilst house hunting in Edinburgh. Nice cosy restaurant and polite professional service. We both had the tasting menu (they did not want us to mix a la carte Smith the tasting (some restaurants take this approach for timing reasons - though I think this should be customer choice). Some of the courses... More

Superb staff, fantastic food, reasonably priced in my opinion in a very comfortable restaurant. From the moment you arrive you are made to feel welcome, service is not rushed, professional and very friendly. We had the eight course tasting menu with associated wines. The food from the canapés to the coffee was of just the right quantities and beautifully cooked.... More

The restaurant was only a 10 minute drive from our city centre apartment and had a very homely feel to it. All of the staff were very polite and welcoming. We had pre-booked a table for 2 and was seated immediately. We chose to eat from the a la carte menu at £55 for 3 courses which we found to... More

A family outing to celebrate my father's 95th birthday. Helpful staff arranged for us to sit at a table which easily accommodated a wheelchair. No problem that one of us didn't eat meat. We all had the tasting menu which was a delight from beginning to end. Little taste explosions for the canapes at the start, memorable smoked duck, and... More

We had a family celebration in the Plumed Horse and it was the usual superb culinary experience with range and balance of flavours. The service was professional but friendly. We loved the starters especially the foie gras and the smoked salmon with passion fruit. The scallops were perfect as was the rabbit as a main course. The desserts were all... More
