Relocated from Castle Douglas to Leith (lucky for us), The Plumed Horse is the brainchild of superstar Chef/Proprietor Tony Borthwick who earned the restaurant a Michelin Star in 2001. Although the move to Leith has meant giving up the star it can’t possibly be too long before the Plumed Horse is decorated again. Stylishly simple, the restaurant is all white walls, white linen and light and airy space, the ideal backdrop to an evening of gastronomic delights. The imaginative menu has lost nothing in its relocation, still boasting impressively modern cuisine with a good classical twist and presentation which almost stops you digging in with that fork. The Plumed Horse’s star has certainly not fallen

My wife and I have eaten at the Plumed Horse on a number of occasions and had found it excellent. We were therefore very disappointed by a recent visit. Unfortunately I couldn't eat one of the courses and, although the waiter noted this, nothing else was offered, In addition we were not offered the cheese platter and only offered after... More

An amazing find around the corner from Wishart and Kitchin in a charming setting with a blue and green tartanesque carpet and smart decor with friendly and attentive staff and a chef who appeared to apologise for a delay with what turned out to be a delicious tartlet full of expanding flavours to accompany my sea trout steak and vegetables... Took my wife's parents here for a treat and had the 6 or 7 course degustation. Every course was spectacular and I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a quality fine dining meal. The restaurant was a 5 minute cab ride from Edinburgh station, the staff are very attentive and the restaurant itself is very nicely decorated.... More

Thanks again to Tony and the team for a quite wonderful dining experience and excellent service, simply divine. After 5 years of dining here, there is simply nowhere in Edinburgh with this quality of dining and consistency of service, its just outstanding. Thank you guys, have a great summer break and see you again in the autumn. J&N

Enjoyed a most wonderful dinner on a Thursday evening but astounded that we were only one of two tables for the whole evening. Can't understand why this outstanding restaurant is so quiet on a weekday in July. Warm welcome from attentive, perhaps even a little over exuberant, staff on arrival but I guess they were pleased to see us! Menu... More

We went for my partners birthday on a groupon. It was a little more than most vouchers and the location wasn't great but we thought we would give it a go. We were on the 8 course evening menu, got to 6 courses and had to stop because we were too full. The menu was paired with wine or beer... More

Tucked away behind Great Junction Street and with free on street parking, this was a lucky find. It was a lunch visit and the menu was varied and interesting. The food was very well presented and delicious. The staff were attentive to the right level and courteous. Surprisingly my companion and I were the only two diners but we did... More

We really enjoyed our evening here. It was a special occasion, and this restaurant was an ideal place to celebrate. Quite a subdued atmosphere, but the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The food was of a very high quality, particularly the exquisitely tender rabbit loin and the veal main courses. My recommendation would be to forego the petit fours; you... More

The food here is really good and is good value for the quality of fare. Let down by its' location , which is a bit down market but inside it is fine and the outer world is discretely blocked out.
