Description: Relocated from Castle Douglas to Leith (lucky for us), The Plumed Horse is the brainchild of superstar Chef/Proprietor Tony Borthwick who earned the restaurant a Michelin Star in 2001. Although the move to Leith has meant giving up the star it can’t possibly be too long before the Plumed Horse is decorated again. Stylishly simple, the restaurant is all white walls, white linen and light and airy space, the ideal backdrop to an evening of gastronomic delights. The imaginative menu has lost nothing in its relocation, still boasting impressively modern cuisine with a good classical twist and presentation which almost stops you digging in with that fork. The Plumed Horse’s star has certainly not fallen

We received a warm and relaxed welcome from the staff who were all friendly and professional. We had the tasting menu.... This was made possible by the accommodating kitchen staff who responded well to the seafood allergy in our party, which was great. The food was fabulous and we enjoyed everything. The wine was also excellent. Just a little note... More

If you are looking for very special food combined with excellent service look no further than the Plumed Horse! Tony Borthwick continues to provide award winning food within a really great restaurant with a friendly atmosphere. We visited on the Friday night and it was fully booked, despite being filled to capacity the service was still excellent and the knowledgable... More

Hubby and I were back at the Plumed Horse after a 2 year gap; for no other reason than there are so many great restaurants in Edinburgh. We'd been given a 5 course set lunch voucher by friends for our anniversary and were delighted to visit again. The restaurant wasn't busy, which was great as the service was spot on.... More

Hello everyone, Sorry but GillyG18 is definitely what I would call a bit of a nippy sweetie! She confuses too. Writes a terrible review and then says she's happy to return. Erm! I don't get that! Having read again her Plumed Horse review of 2010 I am VERY surprised that she came back. Obviously we have gone up in her... More

We have just returned from a superb lunch today at the Plumed horse. It ticked all the boxes from the delicious homemade sourdough rolls to the salted caramel at the end. We were marvellously replete, the beautifully presented plates with interesting tastes to make the ordinary sublime, like the chicory ribbons garnishing the smoked salmon. Wow! Service was perfect, atmosphere... More

We dined again at the Plumed Horse on Friday evening and had another lovely experience. For the first time we dined when the harpist was playing and it added a lovely ambience to the restaurant. The room was almost full but as they carefully stagger booking times the service throughout was calm, relaxed and efficient. The food, as always, was... More

Hi Ian Tony and Staff Well what can we say another first class meal and service. The tasting menu was out of this world. Don't know how you manage it Tony but all the different tastes from the different courses are fab. The quality of the service from the waiting staff is superb and thanks to you all. As I... More

We have just returned from one of our most memorable meals ever: a five course tasting lunch at Tony Borthwick's Plumed Horse. From the introductory glass of Prosecco and canapes, to the coffee and petites fours, the experience was a true delight; every element was carefully researched and faultlessly produced. Each individual flavour was recognisable and the resulting combinations continually... More

Yesterday was my birthday and my wife,as a special surprise, had booked a table for us at The Plumed Horse in Leith. The whole experience was fantastic, from the artwork on the wall, the quality of friendly but inobtrusive service, to the excllent food, simply an unforgettable evening. I was especially impressed by the potage of oyster and scallop with... More

I have eaten at The Plumed Horse on several occasions, and must say that for the level of dining that it represents, it is also quite reasonably priced. The amuse-bouche is always something that hints to what something special that awaits. The portions are, I must say, generous for fine dining, as the highlighted protein in the course is always...
