Relocated from Castle Douglas to Leith (lucky for us), The Plumed Horse is the brainchild of superstar Chef/Proprietor Tony Borthwick who earned the restaurant a Michelin Star in 2001. Although the move to Leith has meant giving up the star it can’t possibly be too long before the Plumed Horse is decorated again. Stylishly simple, the restaurant is all white walls, white linen and light and airy space, the ideal backdrop to an evening of gastronomic delights. The imaginative menu has lost nothing in its relocation, still boasting impressively modern cuisine with a good classical twist and presentation which almost stops you digging in with that fork. The Plumed Horse’s star has certainly not fallen

Another wonderful meal at the Plumed Horse. Such variety of tastes and flavours. Definitely in need of about a hundred Michelin stars!!!!

We visited The Plumed horse earlier this winter and had a wonderful meal and a fantastic experience all around. The setting was lovely, with just the right touches of fancy to make you feel special as well as welcome. The staff was welcoming and professional without being too stuffy and knew their job well! We had the tasting menu because... More

Visited The Plumed Horse on a Tuesday night in January with family and whilst relatively quiet after Hogmanay I can understand why this restaurant is highly rated in the Good Food Guide and Trip Advisor. Always happy knowing the Chef/ Proprietor is in the kitchen and has the courtesy to acknowledge his diners. This is a slick operation with good... More

I love this restaurant with its quaint interiors. There are some stunning paintings by Leriche from the Leith School of art. The tasting menu this week was amuse bouch balls of Haggis , raw fish rolls with tartare and a cheesy concoction. Then a fantastic artichoke volute fluffed up and with an egg bathing centrally. Next a smoked salmon salad... More

Had the 8 course taster dinner on Saturday night. Each course was a taste bud sensation ,served with flair .The wine choices were in keeping with the delicious food, and the Sauvingnon Blanc we chose complimented the food well. The monkfish ,scallop and chickpea cous cous was my favourite ,although the rhubarb and ginger ice cream was award winning too! We think the... More

My partner and I went for a romantic meal in the plumed horse. We both ordered from the a la carte menu and were surprised at the additional courses that were par for the course. Fantastic canapés and amuse bouches before we even got to the great selection of breads - including a confit duck and Rosemary bread! The entire... More

We had sneaked a preview of the menu before our first visit to this restaurant last weekend so knew we were likely to have the tasting menu along with the matching wines. The staff were friendly and efficient and all boded well with the superb canapés and champagne; the selection of rolls was outstanding and we much appreciated the chef... More

We returned to the Plumed Horse on Friday evening and having dined here before I had been looking forward to our meal all week. This visit lived up to expectations with another excellent tasting menu - some dishes we had tried before and some were new to us - but all of them were expertly cooked and presentation was beautiful....
