Relocated from Castle Douglas to Leith (lucky for us), The Plumed Horse is the brainchild of superstar Chef/Proprietor Tony Borthwick who earned the restaurant a Michelin Star in 2001. Although the move to Leith has meant giving up the star it can’t possibly be too long before the Plumed Horse is decorated again. Stylishly simple, the restaurant is all white walls, white linen and light and airy space, the ideal backdrop to an evening of gastronomic delights. The imaginative menu has lost nothing in its relocation, still boasting impressively modern cuisine with a good classical twist and presentation which almost stops you digging in with that fork. The Plumed Horse’s star has certainly not fallen

The Festival is not a good time for Edinburgh restaurants like the Plumed Horse which are for leisurely dining and not to be rushed for the next show. In my opinion an evening spent here is worth more than sitting through many of the overrated productions available at Festival time. And I speak as a devotee of the EIF. We... More

Ate on a Friday evening and the place was very quiet, only 10 people in the restaurant. Restaurant has a dated feel to it, looks and feels like it hasn't had a refurb since it opened. When we entered we were pointed to a table, not shown to a table not seated etc, service was a bit sloppy all night.... More

I used to reply to all our reviews but must admit I have to catch up. Mostly I spend my time replying with thank yous for compliments. It's a pleasure to do so. My apologise for being tardy with the recent batch. We do have so many compliments bestowed upon us. We do not take them for granted and I... More

My husband and I dined in the restaurant to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary and had a very special evening from the minute we entered the dining room. We chose from the a la carte menu, the food was full of flavour, delightfully presented and delicious. Staff described each course for us and were very knowledgable about the dishes. There is... I took my daughter to lunch at the Plumed Horse on her recommendation (she lives in Edinburgh and knows the city well - I live in London). We had a lunchtime booking on Saturday and the with only 3 couples dining, the atmosphere wasn't buzzing. The staff however were very efficient and helpful with recommendations on specials and menu choices... More

We had a very nice meal. Had the tasting menu. Including wine and coffee the bill is about £95 a head. The food is very good but isn't quite as good as Martin Wishart or Tom Kitchin. This restaurant used to be better. No complaints about the service. The location isn't great. It's a bit out of the way. Not... More

Kind of thanks! If you want, you can spend more than £95.00 a head on wine alone in most restaurants. Certainly you can at PH. So, the price mentioned is, to me, irrelevant. WE are not extortionately priced. Nor are we cheap. Please everyone. Take a look at our pricing structure. No shocking add ons and certainly nowhere as expensive... More

I visited The Plumed Horse with friends for a long Friday lunch. They offer a great value three course lunch. The food was good and the atmosphere relaxed.

My wife and I have eaten at the Plumed Horse on a number of occasions and had found it excellent. We were therefore very disappointed by a recent visit. Unfortunately I couldn't eat one of the courses and, although the waiter noted this, nothing else was offered, In addition we were not offered the cheese platter and only offered after... More

Regarding Ian P's writing, Again readers, I apologise for focusing on a bad review before answering the lengthy string of compliments with my gratitude. I will catch up soon. As far as I was aware, Tony did respond to his email. That's why I did not. If our wires have crossed then our apologies are indeed due and would be... More

My husband and I visited for lunch in celebration of our wedding anniversary, and it was a truly special experience from the moment we walked into the restaurant and all throughout our meal.
