Description: Relocated from Castle Douglas to Leith (lucky for us), The Plumed Horse is the brainchild of superstar Chef/Proprietor Tony Borthwick who earned the restaurant a Michelin Star in 2001. Although the move to Leith has meant giving up the star it can’t possibly be too long before the Plumed Horse is decorated again. Stylishly simple, the restaurant is all white walls, white linen and light and airy space, the ideal backdrop to an evening of gastronomic delights. The imaginative menu has lost nothing in its relocation, still boasting impressively modern cuisine with a good classical twist and presentation which almost stops you digging in with that fork. The Plumed Horse’s star has certainly not fallen

We had dinner last weekend at the Plumed Horse. We were surprised how small was the place, given the great reputation. We had a very attentive service, meal with all the attention to detail as one can imagine, and excellent wines, the red on recommendation from the sommelier. The only negative was that even when the tables filled up (we... More

Have not been to restaurant in 2 years but when we walked in we were greeted like regulars. Very comfortable and relaxing, we chose the tasting menu and were not disappointed, presentation fantastic as was the food combined with friendly and unobtrusive staff. Great hilarity working out the new app for loyalty (which I forgot to get a picture off)... More

This was perhaps our fifth visit to The Plumed Horse over a number of years, starting soon after their relocation to Leith, through their Michelin star and its subsequent loss (for reasons that I cannot fathom), to a midweek visit on a recent trip to Edinburgh. The food here just continues to surprise and delight, with Tony Borthwick's ability to... More

A small relaxing restaurant, pleasantly decorated, with only 40 or so covers and no rush, this is a very calm space in which to enjoy an exceptional meal. From the canapés through to the petit fours, a uniformly excellent meal so it is difficult to pick out the highlights. There is a danger that one would just list virtually all... More

Really really enjoyed my visit to the plumed horse. We decided against the tasting menu and had the al a carte one instead, we were not disappointed! Even though we were meant to have only 3 courses we ended up with so extra entrées and mini courses we still felt very pleasantly full. Food was really really great. Staff were... More

We visited The Plumed Horse for the third time a few nights ago, and I have to say that I feel a bit let down given our previous good - no, great experiences. The night didn't get off to the best start when, on arrival, it apeared that they had lost our booking - it transpired that it had gone... More

This was our fifth visit to The Plumed Horse and can honestly say we were not disappointed. We had the 5 course tasting lunch menu which did not disappoint. Our other visits were for dinner , including special truffle dining event. The staff are wonderful, the restaurant exquisite and the food superb. We have dined in many Michelin Star restaurants...
