Description: Relocated from Castle Douglas to Leith (lucky for us), The Plumed Horse is the brainchild of superstar Chef/Proprietor Tony Borthwick who earned the restaurant a Michelin Star in 2001. Although the move to Leith has meant giving up the star it can’t possibly be too long before the Plumed Horse is decorated again. Stylishly simple, the restaurant is all white walls, white linen and light and airy space, the ideal backdrop to an evening of gastronomic delights. The imaginative menu has lost nothing in its relocation, still boasting impressively modern cuisine with a good classical twist and presentation which almost stops you digging in with that fork. The Plumed Horse’s star has certainly not fallen

Love the food and service and regularly eat here. Special favourite is the 8 course taster menu. Lost nothing with the Michelin star.

My partner and I work hard and enjoy spending our money on the thing we love most; fine dining. We booked the Plumed Horse rather on a whim, and it is one of the best chances we have taken. We were very warmly greeted and promptly served. The menu was explained thoroughly to us and the staff seemed knowledgable about... More

The tasting menu was the most enchanting meal in my life. I am not particularly fond of celery, however the chef is. Thus, he took the ingredient one does not particularly like and turned it into a perfect meal. I wholeheartedly endorse the restaurant to anyone with a distinguished food palette.

Tastefully decorated corner spot, nice art work. Dining room has a pleasant ambience. There seemed to be a large number of covers around 8pm arrival. Service was not prompt. We waited about 15mins to meet the sommelier to order some wine, and that was after the canapés. The amuse bouche did not arrive for over an hour, by which time... More

Good pleasant service, nice ambience. Nothing wrong with the food as such, just a bit underwhelming. The tasting menu lacked wow factor and we found ourselves suffering a bad case of food envy looking at other tables. That was disappointing given the restaurant had promoted the tasting menu to us via email as 'extended by popular demand'. Hm! The ham... More

A friend and I visited The Plumed Horse for our regular lunch date on Thursday 3rd July 2014. It's a little out of the way for us, as we normally dine in town, but I'm so glad we took the short stroll down Leith Walk to visit. The restaurant itself is very tastefully decorated with understated Scottish accents. It's a... More

I have been here for lunch twice now (just could not resist going back) and the best surprise...you don't have to break the bank, it is reasonably priced. The meals I have had here have been simply wonderful and I doubt you will find better value in the city, so surprising that I had to hunt for this great little... More

Ate there when it was first opened and wasn't as good as Wishart or Kitchin but this June had a delicious meal. All fish but unusual tastes put together expertly, as one would expect of a Michelin * restaurant. Pleasant staff and pleasant room. Also, the pleasure of a walk along THe Shore at Leith Docks.

Hello Yonkel21 Thanks for the review. There were teething problems at the beginning so...hands up to that. Thanks for coming back and confirming for us that we are now fully settled in. I suppose after eight years we should be in fairness. We hope to see you again before another eight years has flown by. All the best. Ian More

This was our third visit to the Plumed Horse and the standard was as high as ever. The restaurant itself is lovely and it is nice to see that they use white tableclothes (unlike so many top restaurants) which immediately gives the impression of luxury. As we were taking friends with us who had travelled a long way, we hoped... More

We have eaten a number of times at the Plumed Horse and returned a couple of weeks ago to try the tasting menu. On each visit the menu has changed and we are constantly delighted by the new dishes on offer and the wonderful flavours and the beautiful presentation. My wife was reluctant to have rabbit and Tony came through... More
