Description: Relocated from Castle Douglas to Leith (lucky for us), The Plumed Horse is the brainchild of superstar Chef/Proprietor Tony Borthwick who earned the restaurant a Michelin Star in 2001. Although the move to Leith has meant giving up the star it can’t possibly be too long before the Plumed Horse is decorated again. Stylishly simple, the restaurant is all white walls, white linen and light and airy space, the ideal backdrop to an evening of gastronomic delights. The imaginative menu has lost nothing in its relocation, still boasting impressively modern cuisine with a good classical twist and presentation which almost stops you digging in with that fork. The Plumed Horse’s star has certainly not fallen

I had the 3 course lunch and petit fours on Saturday 13/9/14. Staff were welcoming, helpful and attentive and the surroundings are stylish. I am attaching photos of 2 of the courses which looked like works of art. (Forgot to photograph my main course) They tasted as good as they looked! What a lovely way to spend a couple of... More

We bought a special deal & went for the tasting menu. We also decided to go for the wines recommended by the sommelier. The combination was superb. 8 course including coffee & petit fours. Each course so superbly presented with great flavours. The Pouilly Fume J C Dagueneau was wonderfull. Could not say which course was the best but the... More

My husband & I recently had dinner at Plumed Horse and quite simply it was exceptional. We opted for the three course dinner (as opposed to the tasting menu) and we not disappointed. From start to finish the food, presentation and service was faultless and it was clear to see that this establishment does not take their various accolades for... More

We visited on a busy Friday evening. We tried the tasting menu which we'd bought using amazon vouchers. The staff did a good job catering for our pregnant diner and the meal in general was a good experience hence the rating of four I've given. If I had any negatives I would say that some courses were a bit hit... More

Hello Andy_Dubai_81, Not the easiest review to reply to. You seemed to enjoy Plumed Horse so thank you for that. Quality of ingredients should never be an issue with anybody who eats with us. Only highest quality stuff here. Tony will have a few words about that later. I would like to point out to other readers that it doesn't... More

My husband and I had a sharing menu, which was delicious. Highlights were - a mackerel ceviche which was fresh and zingy, and the main course of lamb, including sweetbreads and kidney. The lamb was beautifully cooked and melted in the mouth. A harpist playing was a nice touch, and the service was first class - knowledgable, attentive and friendly.... More

Courtesy of an Amazon Local voucher, my nephew and I availed ourselves of a 5-course taster lunch yesterday (Friday 5th). Arriving first, I was warmly greeted by the three gentlemen who were on duty front of house, one of whom showed me to our inviting and beautifully laid table. Shortly afterwards nephew arrived, when we were served our welcoming glasses... More

Hello MadaZsaZsa, A very grand name and a very grand review thanks for it. There are plans to expand on the toilet facilities. Hopefully we can put them in place soon. My family and I have been here on several occassions, and it remains a firm favourite for all of us. The service is exemplary: a warm welcome, knowledgable waiting staff who confidently advise on food and wine selections, and a non-invasive but attentive approach. And the food! My goodness, what a treat - and every single time. It looks, smells... More

When we booked this restaurant then discovered it lost its Michelin star it set alarm bells ringing. However, we had need not have worried. From the moment we walked in we were welcomed warmly and offered several tables to pick from. The decor is simple, clean but still classy. The A la Carte menu although limited would provide even the... More

Thanks Martin H, I like the title for a start. Well done. We had Charlie Reid of the Proclaimers in the other day. Lovely fella. I had no idea we had inspired him so. LOL! Naughty wife, not letting you taste her plaice. Michelin Star...I have my own thoughts about whether they are lost or whether someone else gets them.... More

Mind you, knowing that a café on one’s itinerary has history in Michelin-star terrain can be daunting; yet on balance, I can see now that an excursion on our Edinburgh holiday out to the Leith area--where the Royal Britannia is docked, after all—in order to experience the delightful dining pleasure of “THE PLUMED HORSE” is an absolute must for any... When you are greeted as you step out of your taxi you know you are in for a good night. We were given a choice of tables and chose one which, unusually allowed us both a view of the restaurant.
