The food was bland and vastly more expensive than the quality would suggest, the waiting staff were rude and couldn't explain the contents of the ambiguously titled dishes which meant ordering was a complete nightmare- though I imagine quite funny after a few drinks.

Looking for something different and not to expensive whilst having 90 minutes between Fringe performances we stumbled across this small eatery. As the place was packed (approx. 20 seats) I assumed that ‘if it is good enough for them, it will be good enough for us’. On entry the ‘front of house’ was keen not to miss our business and... More

For a quick bite of lunch this is a really good choice. Completely unpretentious and quite small, you can get a good variety of Chinese dishes with fast though not overly friendly service. I like it.

We stopped in here as it was one of the closest things to the hotel and we'd been travelling for 36 hours. It was fine for that, but don't go out of your way to eat here. Most of the patrons seemed to be thoroughly enjoying their food, but most of them had been drinking for hours...

The lady that took our order seemed pissed off with every single 'extra' thing we ordered. For example, I wanted to get the milk tea on the menu and when I asked, she simply sighed and walked away. I did get my order but I didn't feel like drinking it anymore... Food is okay. Greasy and salty but edible. I... More

If you know what you want then what you have is good value home from an excellent chef. Yes it's cramped and the middle aged owner and chef are surly but the waiting staff are pleasant and occasionally helpful. The noodle soups are great especially the hofun with tripe ( if that's your thing ) and the golden fried offal... More

This place is a nice reminder of my home cooked food. I thought I should also throw it out there considering everyone else is...I've lived in Hong Kong for 16 years. I come here to get my daily fix of a piece of HK. I admit that the quality of service is not up to scratch, however, the satisfactory food... More

The staff is usually extremely rude. Regarding the quality of the food, as a person who has stayed in Hong Kong for half a year and ate out everyday, I am very disappointed by the taste. The portion is tiny as well, especially the noodle soup. A bit overpriced I`d say. Would rather go to Noodle bar on the South... More

We went in and at the time only a 4 stools table was available. As reviewers have said the tables are small and the table was probably more suited for two people or three people. The old lady who is probably the part owner of the business was miserable, and it was confusing whether she had understood the order. After... More

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighborhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighborhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
