Good Quality Sushi

Been here a number of time and always enjoy it. The quality of the food is always very good and have never had a bad dish here. The staff are very knowledgeable about all of the items on the menu and they always have frequently changing specials that keep it fresh. The only downside is the... read more

Always really enjoy the food here. The beef tataki is particularly good. Presentation is different every time depending on what you're ordering but is always beautiful. Has become my regular!

The bento box was quite decent. Love the salmon teriyaki. However the salmon was not that fresh. Love the Takoyaki! Green tea is not refillable! :(

Great venue, greeted by very lovely friendly staff. Good set lunch deal. Although we went a la carte. Quite small portions, and if I'm honest a little bland. Obviously very popular with students as was busy at the time. But not up there with my favourite Japanese restaurants. The food just lacked flavour and authenticity. I will always try places... Been here twice. Cheap, fresh sushi with friendly service. I had the salmon sashimi and soft shell crab ISO. Delicious. It's also BYOB (Bring your own bottle) which is a plus

Bonsai is a great little cafe style sushi place. Fairly relaxed with minimal fuss. They have a few specials as well as standard sushi you find in the UK.

I went there for the first time with Groupon voucher a few years ago – food was just beautiful – since then I’m a regular customer! Sushi always fresh and taste amazing! (gaijin-zushi: California & Dragon = 8 pieces) other dishes the same: Teriyaki Beef or Chicken Katsu are my favourites. Iced plum wine and Cream Brule as a dessert!... More

Waitress was excellent, ordered a few of the daily specials, deep fried soft shelled crab, wasabi chicken wings (bland) sashimi was tasty but not as fresh looking as I would have liked. Had a soup with a pork dumpling which was excellent-stand out dish to me. Tried the plum wine-would recommend it. It was lovely. Overall enjoyed the lunch out... More

I ate here recently with a friend having invested in a Groupon voucher. I'll get the negative out the way first: price. It's expensive but let's be honest most sushi places are and I have to admit by the end of the meal I did not grudge it. The selection is great and the quality of the food is superb.... More

lost count of how many times we have eaten here.. but without a doubt the best restaurant in Edinburgh, and I have eaten in most of them... been to both Bonsai restaurants and never once been let down, with or without a money off voucher its worth it.. the staff are always friendly and the food freshly prepared, for that... Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighborhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighborhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
