Very tasty comfort food

1st time visit, would probably have walked past any other time, however it was recommended by friends. Very "rustic" inside with a mix of old fashioned type booths and open seating. Good choice on the menu. We all had burgers with different recipes. Forget the calories, the banana splits were well... read more

I went to Mums with a friend of mine, for both it was the first taste of scottish food. We were really happy with that. The waitress helped us suggesting what to it and everything was really fab ! Good prices and very good service.

Food is delicious, staff are fab - friendly but not in your face. I had the steak and ale stew with dumplings, my mouth is watering just thinking about how good it was. Excellent value for money. Can't wait to go back. Have already told everyone at work!

Myself and my partner visited for a big lunch one Saturday and were very happy with the food at MUMS. The portions are a nice size (maybe a little small but not bad) and the meals were really good comforting food. I had a vegetarian haggis which was a nice size but the haggis itself could maybe have done with... More

We spent a nice dinner at this place, before going to the jazz club later. We reserved via phone and were placed at a table close to the door. When we asked to be re-seated, the waiter immediately took care and placed us in a nice box. The food was fresh, tasty and generous. It was served hot and on... More

The Eggs Benedict are amazing! We couldn't fault the food or service; excellent value for money. A must for breakfast in the capital!

Although the staff were very obliging, the food was mediocre at best. I had the onion tart (not too bad, but certainly not good and small serve) and the broccoli and cauliflower cheese (stogey with what seemed like processed cheese). My latte was good, but the food was overpriced for the poor quality. Overrated and couldn't recommend.

Comfort food is believable. Had sausage and mash. A selection of sausages to choose from, mash and gravy. Our server was personable and very efficient. Food delivered in reasonable period of time and very good. Worth a try.

My own mum and I have to be very careful what we eat, and we enjoyed two lovely sausage-and-mash suppers at Mum's. The waitress remembered us and was kind enough to arrange a taxi at the end of our meal. They offer a variety of sausages, all gluten-free (no fillers!), as well as dairy-free (vegan) mashed potatoes and a range... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
