Stopped here for Saturday lunch. The coffees came after 20 minutes then the food followed about half a hour after the coffee !!! When the food came the accompanying fries were cold and due to us having limited ti,me didn't bother to complain !!! Just ate what was warm and left. They must have been having a bad day or... More

This place rocks! Had a great evening last night at this place. A great concept: pick your own sausage, mash, and gravy combo from a list. Plus craft lager I would probably mug my mother for. The staff banter was top notch and we all high-fived on exiting. Hell, yeah! Thoroughly recommended.

We had tried several times to get into this restaurant but it was always full. This time we were a bit earlier in the evening so hits table. The pies, venison an steak pie went down a treat and the girls were very impressed with the mash, one of their favourite things, so they can be quite hard to please.... More

I took my three children here for dinner on Saturday night, and the staff was warm and accommodating. There are lots of options for vegetarians on the menu, and everything we ordered was well prepared and tasty. I had a huge venison pie, of which I could only eat about a quarter, and my son reported that his hamburger was... More

Popped in here with my daughter on Sunday afternoon after a wee stroll around the town. We have visited on a number of occasions and we both agree it's fantastic ! Great service, character and a great choice of comfort foods makes MUMS a stand alone choice for us. Who doesn't like sausage and mash on a freezing cold Edinburgh... More

Cannot rate Mum's highly enough. THE best comfort food and some of the best gluten free food I've ever eaten. Hugh range of mashes and sausages (all GF), burgers, pies, stews, amazing breakfasts - the list goes on. Set in a laid-back diner style, you cannot go wrong for any meal of the day. Staff were absolutely lovely, great background... More

Staying in the Premier Inn and having been very disappointed with their breakfasts, my friend and I popped into MUMS for breakfast on our way to the Scottish National Museum. We were impressed by the very friendly service by the lady owner and delighted by the hearty breakfast consisting of everything in a full English breakfast but with lots more,... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
