We stayed in edinburgh for 2 nights and as a coeliac I searched gluten free restaurants, and MUMS came up as a recommendation. We happened to walk past it one afternoon so decided to try it out. We were immediately greeted by a lovely waiter who was able to tell me what I could have that was gluten free. I... More

Went here for breakfast the other morning during a trip to Edinburgh. Oh my... was absolutely stuffed. I got the cooked breakfast, my boyfriend got the pancakes. Great portions, very tasty and adapted the breakfast to be fully gluten free - toast, beans, egg, bacon and their own gf sausage. Left very satisfied and very full. Service was also very... More

After passing this place the day before, my partner suggested that we go there for a late lunch (2.30 ish). We were greeted by friendly staff who were very attentive. We chose the sausages and mash but we got to choose the type of sausages, mash and gravy (lamb and mint and mums herby sausages, black pudding and apple mash... More

A friend saw online that I was in Edinburgh and offered up (unsolicited) Mums as a place to try. She was right--location was perfect for tourist attractions like the castle and museum and the food was homemade, hot, and delicious! Decor is quirky and fun and service was helpful (charged my phone for me)

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
