Description: Set in the heart of Edinburgh is Hanam's Kurdish and Middle Eastern Restaurant and if you think that's a mouthful, wait until you see what on offer! Voted one of Britain's Top 5 Middle Eastern Restaurants by the Telegraph, owner Ahmed ensures the personal touch, by being there seven days a week to offer advice and banter. The menu offers starters such as falafel and baba ghanoush, main courses that include Kurdish pizzas, vegetarian casseroles and halal meat dishes, such as Kurdish-style lamb biryani. There are also a selection of shish kebabs and desserts. Three courses from this banquet-like menu will cost an average of just £20 per person. And, if you're so inclined, you can even smoke a traditional hookah after your meal.

Great meal. Had the best ever falafel, halloumi, nice dips with lots of flatbread and loads of fresh salad - could not complain at all except for the stuffed vegetables which were a bit too greasy. Would advise booking on a weekend if you want to sit inside.

We came late, the where about to close the kitchen, but they took us in with open arms. Me and my friend had never tasted this kind of cousine before and where amazed! Great food experience, not prizy and HUGE portions! IT didn't looked like we touched the food when we where done. The only negative thing we got to... More

We went there with our toddler in the push chair and were treated quite harshly when the hotel staff just moved the pushchair from next to our table without even asking. So much for hospitality. The food was below par. And by that I mean really substandard. The kebabs were overdone and the rice was dry. I would advise to... More

Had a wonderful meal. 1st time here but will definitely come back. The falafel was good as was the chilli gosht kebab served Kurdish style.

Having arrived that afternoon we needed somewhere great to eat. Following TA reviews we followed suit. WHAT AN AMAZING CHOICE! Brilliant authentic food... large portions full of flavour. Just cut back on the rice way too much.

From appetizer to dessert or experience was remarkable. The decor, food, and service warmed our hearts and palates on a chilly day. Our waitress, Hannah was a doll. Both my husband and I loved our food, falafel, and an eggplant dish (can't recall the name). The portions were generous too. We'd definitely go back.

Called in on the back of the good reviews on tripadvisor and we're glad we did. It was early doors so quiet but more people soon started to come in. Our waitress (who was Irish) was really friendly). Starters were massive so along with the flat bread we were stuffed before we'd even started our main courses. We had the... More

Food is excellent and authentic. I ordered the lamb with okra and it came with a huge plate of rice and naan bigger than your head. Food was authentic and yummy. Get the hummus shawarma. No alcoholic drinks served.

The decor is welcoming; red and dramatic and the staff are friendly. However the food was average; the meat shawarma was lacking in taste although the hummus and the falafel options were fine. My niece (a great foodie) was very disappointed at the standard of the food.
