Description: Set in the heart of Edinburgh is Hanam's Kurdish and Middle Eastern...
Set in the heart of Edinburgh is Hanam's Kurdish and Middle Eastern Restaurant and if you think that's a mouthful, wait until you see what on offer! Voted one of Britain's Top 5 Middle Eastern Restaurants by the Telegraph, owner Ahmed ensures the personal touch, by being there seven days a week to offer advice and banter. The menu offers starters such as falafel and baba ghanoush, main courses that include Kurdish pizzas, vegetarian casseroles and halal meat dishes, such as Kurdish-style lamb biryani. There are also a selection of shish kebabs and desserts. Three courses from this banquet-like menu will cost an average of just £20 per person. And, if you're so inclined, you can even smoke a traditional hookah after your meal.

Nan bread to die for

The Food was exceptional. Nan bread as light as pillows. Lovely surroundings. You can take your own wine if you wish as only non alcoholic drinks on sale. Price very reasonable.

While they do not serve alcohol, you are welcome to bring it. Waiter even directed people where to go to buy [and return]. This good service continued throughout. For apps we ordered olives and a lamb hummus shawarma. Olives were fine, but there was too many of them [I rarely say that]. Is for 2 or more to share. The... More

My friend and I dined here for dinner spontaneously. The food is good and the service, fast. There is Shisha available as well.

We booked last minute for our evening meal and understandably told we had to vacate our table by 7.30pm giving us an ample 1.5hrs to dine. (we eat fast!) The interior decor was beautiful and well in character to the Kurdish menu. The staff were very welcoming and attentive with food served within minutes of ordering. Here comes the down... More

We came for an early dinner, as a group of six with varying tastes and requirements. We were all delighted with the meal; the menu is extensive, the ingredients are clearly high quality and we all thought our meals were absolutely delicious. The portion sizes are more than generous so we left feeling like we'd have happily paid more. We... More

This was our third time as a large group coming here for a special occasion and yet again, it was fantastic. Unlike other reviewer we loved the £20 a head banquet menu. It was all fantastic, freshly cooked and just delicious. The service was excellent - friendly and helpful - and the fact that it is a BYOB place makes... More

I've visited this restaurant several times and I've never been anything but impressed. The food is gorgeous and the portions very generous (share starters!). The naan breads are massive too. Wide selection of mains too! I've You can take in your own wine/fizz which I always like doing to be honest. The service is excellent and the toilets immaculate. Great... More

We went to this restaurant because I am vegetarian, and there were lots of choices for me. Plus, we all like to try different types of food. The restaurant is near Edinburgh castle and very handy to all the sights. The prices are very reasonable. We were given a table on the lower floor, and it is decorated like a... More

Popped in for light dinner. Yum. Generous serve for one. Can recommend. No alcohol served but you can bring your own. I'll be back again to try another entrees.

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
