Description: Set in the heart of Edinburgh is Hanam's Kurdish and Middle Eastern...
Set in the heart of Edinburgh is Hanam's Kurdish and Middle Eastern Restaurant and if you think that's a mouthful, wait until you see what on offer! Voted one of Britain's Top 5 Middle Eastern Restaurants by the Telegraph, owner Ahmed ensures the personal touch, by being there seven days a week to offer advice and banter. The menu offers starters such as falafel and baba ghanoush, main courses that include Kurdish pizzas, vegetarian casseroles and halal meat dishes, such as Kurdish-style lamb biryani. There are also a selection of shish kebabs and desserts. Three courses from this banquet-like menu will cost an average of just £20 per person. And, if you're so inclined, you can even smoke a traditional hookah after your meal.

Visited here for the 1st time last night and loved it. The menu is varied with lots of great choices. We had a selection of starters which we all enjoyed and I followed with Gulf chicken Kabseh which was delicious. My friends had the Merishke kebab and Gormeh Sabzi which they also enjoyed. We ended the meal with rosewater sorbets... More

I really like the decor and the atmosphere of Hanams, good middle eastern cuisine, although we usually orders too much and cannot finish it all. Staff are friendly and professional and best of all its BYO,

My wife and I were trying to find somewhere to eat at around 7PM on New Years Eve in Edinburgh, and we hadn't made reservations (I know!). Initially we were told that had nothing, but then a guy from behind the counter said he could get us into the private dining room downstairs- we are very glad he did. My... More

We love Hanam's, the food is fantastic and atmosphere great, however this time our order was wrong and even the correction was wrong, we didn't get our drinks (although they were included on the bill!). Perhaps the waitress was new? It was reasonably quiet so she wasn't rushed. She also recommended the mixed kebab for next time after clearing our... More

I loved the food and the atmosphere! Warm and cosy and full of spicy smells of cardamom and cinnamon. Slow cooked lamb falling off the bone..pilaffs bejewelled with glistening pomegranate seeds..I'm coming back!

We visited on Christmas day this year and when we booked online, we chose the a la carte menu, however when we got there the only choice was the Christmas menu which was pretty bland and when the food arrived it was totally dull, it looked unimaginative with little or no effort shown and it tasted likewise. Whenever we've visited... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
