Description: Set in the heart of Edinburgh is Hanam's Kurdish and Middle Eastern Restaurant and if you think that's a mouthful, wait until you see what on offer! Voted one of Britain's Top 5 Middle Eastern Restaurants by the Telegraph, owner Ahmed ensures the personal touch, by being there seven days a week to offer advice and banter. The menu offers starters such as falafel and baba ghanoush, main courses that include Kurdish pizzas, vegetarian casseroles and halal meat dishes, such as Kurdish-style lamb biryani. There are also a selection of shish kebabs and desserts. Three courses from this banquet-like menu will cost an average of just £20 per person. And, if you're so inclined, you can even smoke a traditional hookah after your meal.

This restaurant is very close to one of the main tourist hotspots - the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle - and as a resident I have overlooked it. I shall be back. The menu offers dishes from Kurdistan, Lebanon, Morocco, Iraq and Saudi Arabia. The interior decor is delightful. In summer there is a terrace overlooking Victoria Street. Good food.... More

We were 4 persons and each one of us loved our choices. One couple had a dinner for 2 which included a mixture of lamb, chicken pieces and chicken wings. I had a lamb dish with rice and a spinach sauce which was superb. The portions were very substantial, in fact, we each took home lunch for tomorrow. Lovely atmosphere... More

Called in here on a whim one evening when visiting Edinburgh. Fantastic food, had mixed starters to share for starter followed by mains and all lovely. The lamb shanks were superb and my partners chicken casserole with peppers was delicious. No way could we finish everything, despite it being so good. Only thing I would say was we didn't know... The food was good, although I'd ask for the rice & salad without the tart/bitter cranberry dressing. The food was reasonably priced. Female staff could have been friendlier by smiling. The atmosphere was very flat, with nobody talking in the whole place.

My daughter and I are visiting Edinburgh. Yesterday, we ambled up the Royal Mile, veered slightly left just before the castle, and found this gem for lunch. We split a fatoush salad, the best Baba ghanoush we've ever had, and Kurdish style merishke kabob with pomegranate rice. All dishes were perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the service was great. We... More

We decided to have lunch at Hanam's which included starters and mains. I had the fried potatoes & chilli starter followed by marinated bbq chicken. Both were delicious and good portion sizes. My other half had Lebanese sausages for starter and lamb casserole, both were really tasty. The Lebanese sausages is worth having as a main. The lamb casserole comes... More

Possibly the best restaurant food we have ever had. I wish we lived closer so we could go here every day to eat.

I went there last night after a friend suggested it. I don't know how I managed to miss this place. The food was amazing. We had a selection of bbq meat which came with delicious rice and a selection of starters to share for 3 adults and a child. The food was more than enough! We enjoyed everything and even... More

Have visited Hanams twice now and have to say the food has been excellent .The whole ambience of the restaurant is very relaxed and informal. Staff very pleasant and attentive but not overly so. Good choice on the menu and very reasonable prices boosted with the byob which makes it a very enjoyable and inexpensive evening. Will be back soon... More

I have to admit, middle eastern food won't be one of the first type of food I would normally choose, we were just out from a show and not had dinner with a few hours to spare til the next show during the Edinburgh festival and my husband picked this cuisine. I was pleasantly surprised by the food, it was... More
