Description: Set in the heart of Edinburgh is Hanam's Kurdish and Middle Eastern...
Set in the heart of Edinburgh is Hanam's Kurdish and Middle Eastern Restaurant and if you think that's a mouthful, wait until you see what on offer! Voted one of Britain's Top 5 Middle Eastern Restaurants by the Telegraph, owner Ahmed ensures the personal touch, by being there seven days a week to offer advice and banter. The menu offers starters such as falafel and baba ghanoush, main courses that include Kurdish pizzas, vegetarian casseroles and halal meat dishes, such as Kurdish-style lamb biryani. There are also a selection of shish kebabs and desserts. Three courses from this banquet-like menu will cost an average of just £20 per person. And, if you're so inclined, you can even smoke a traditional hookah after your meal.

Went for dinner. Large tables not very busy. Good selection of mezze dishes and great large size pitta. Cardamon tea was a bit disappointing - lacked the cardamon. Friendly staff.

We went for a quick bite to eat during the fringe. The terrace was packed as the sun was out & everybody's food looked amazing!! We had 5 starters - hummus with flat breads, baba ganush, lamb sharmwa mixed olives and BBQ lemon chicken wings. Everything was so tasty and fresh! Definitely will go back & its BYOB.

Found this restaurant by sheer chance and as we were beginning to feel hungry sat at a table on the terrace side of the restaurant. We hadn't realised that it actually extended up on level and it could be accessed from the street behind where we had been. We ordered a sharing platter for two which came with a variety... More

Went for dinner after a friends recommendation . the food was really good and tasty. Main courses quite generous but the starters could be a bit larger for the price! warm folk atmosphere and welcoming staff.

We had made a reservation at another restaurant for 14 people only to be turned away due a booking error. I knew Hanam's do not take reservation so we walked across town and put our name down for a table. The head waiter was very accommodating and friendly. We did wait 45 minutes for tables but this was as expected... More

This was my first experience with middle eastern food and it was brilliant! I had the falafel with hummus to start - so tasy and wonderfully cooked. The best part however was my main course; I had the chicken kebab, kurdish style. The portion was huge and so flavoursome. We received three large naans for the table which we absolutely... More

Went here with a group of friends after a great day out in Edinburgh. The restaurant is BYO and so we went armed with some bottles of wine. There is choice for all on the menu, we all shared the starters and so were able to experience a great array, I couldn't pin down one that I loved more than... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
