Description: Set in the heart of Edinburgh is Hanam's Kurdish and Middle Eastern Restaurant and if you think that's a mouthful, wait until you see what on offer! Voted one of Britain's Top 5 Middle Eastern Restaurants by the Telegraph, owner Ahmed ensures the personal touch, by being there seven days a week to offer advice and banter. The menu offers starters such as falafel and baba ghanoush, main courses that include Kurdish pizzas, vegetarian casseroles and halal meat dishes, such as Kurdish-style lamb biryani. There are also a selection of shish kebabs and desserts. Three courses from this banquet-like menu will cost an average of just £20 per person. And, if you're so inclined, you can even smoke a traditional hookah after your meal.

Came here for a two course business lunch. You just have to try their wings - maybe the best I've had (I've had a lot!!). The food is just so nice. Amazing flavours. Can't think of anything negative to say other than the food did take a wee while to come out. Around five minutes walk from Waverley station if... More

Dined here due to online recommendations. Pleasant staff, cool middle eastern decor - love the lamps and decent tasty food. The starter hummus sharwarma ( dip with lamb) was really good, strong lamb flavour and good quality meat. Two of us shared one entree and one main for lunch and it was plenty, we we're asked if we wanted both... More

Interesting, tasty and recommended The olive and feta salad we shared was massive and a perfect lunch starter to share. The mains we had were beautifully flavoured and the naans massive!!! I like the non alcoholic drinks menu too. Loads of great tastes. My only complaint would be that the tables for two are way to big!!!

Lunch there for 4 of us on 13th August as a consolation for not affording to go to Dubai. Yes. The prices have been jacked up for the festival but have also visited when empty on a cold winter day. Service was excellent. Lassi type savoury yoghurt drink lovely. Home made Houmous, Fatoush and nicely crisp flatbreads amazing. Main courses... More

Kurdish/Lebanese food was a new experience for me, but if all middle eastern restaurants are like this I will be trying some more. No alcohol is served, which initially disappointed me, but I think ordering a beer before a meal is just a force of habit, just drinking water with your meal does actually allow you to enjoy the meal... Enjoying the Fringe Festival last week my partner and I had dinner at Hanam's. The starter of puréed aubergine was delicious, my lamb dish which was full of fresh peppers and tomato's, served with a lovely flat bread was very tasty and colourful. My partner had the lamb with spinach etc which again was delicious. Our only criticism was our... More

I really enjoyed this place, it has outdoor seating so you can have a nice meal and just watch the world go by. Word of warning: this place does not sell alcohol, although you can bring your own. In the short time I was sat there, there were about 5 couples who sat down and asked for alcohol, politely told... More

We had dinner plans go to a chain Italians with a voucher, but on route to a Fringe venue we were lured in by the smell, looked at the menu before walking to our show. After the show we decided to go back and get a table & cancel the Italians and we were not disappointed! The portion sizes were... More
