Friends dinner

We had dinner here on Friday night, great atmosphere, it was very busy, but the service was great. Would definitely go there again. My mussels were a little on the cool side, but we're good, Everything else looked very good.

Many years ago we enjoyed two fabulous meals here. However, on Saturday our experience was somewhat hit and miss. The shared platters are ok, and our lamb meze was a light enough starter in prep for my flat iron steak. This turned out to be not so good. My wife ordered mussels (lots of broken she'll in the sauce). Service... More

Not run of the mill - an old Edinburgh institution these days, but well worth a visit. Nice views of the castle, an eclectic menu and some decent cooking. Would certainly return.

Great service, starter ham hough was amazing, main meal duck was amazing, fantastic wine!! Both desserts were a real let down, nothing really jumped out of menu, frangipani was dry, torte was huge portion, far too big and off putting. Like the idea of the desserts being hand wrote on menu but the hand writing was terrible and could hardly... More

I completely enjoyed my lunch at the Outsider restaurant. The food was delicious, the service was quick, my waiter, Dave (or David?), was so incredibly kind and personal! I've recommended this place to my friends who live in Edinburgh and highly recommend this place for anyone visiting!!

Used to be fantastic but since Christmas the menu has changed so that the two vegetarian options both include blue cheese. To have every item on the meat menu incorporating blue cheese would be unthinkable as it is an acquired taste, the menu therefore is clearly not catering for vegetarians but providing non meat options for meat eaters. My family... More

Hands down this was our favorite restaurant in Edinburgh! The menu is upscale comfort food with a twist - nice size portions and great choices. And the best part is the dessert - we shared a lemon sorbet with chilled vodka and a warm baked fig/amaretti pudding with vanilla ice cream. Yummy! Great view of the castle too!

Service possibly a tad slow, but the view from the back window occupied the time in a satisfactory manner. Really enjoyed the food, a savoury bake with blue cheese and pear. Decor was good, vibe is nice and the clientele civilised.

Visited for lunch on our trip to Edinburgh. Saw good reviews online so thought we'd try it. Was impressed that the menu for the day was scanned onto the website. It doesn't stick out obviously from the street and has a very dark painted front,so you may walk by without realising. Inside, decor was again quite dark and there were candles... More

I am allergic to Coriander and in my dish even having emphasizing that I am allergic I would say that very a bit of Coriander was still there. When complaining the manager was very rude saying "I am sure that there is no Coriander" not even offered to do another one, or even offering a coffee as a courtesy. Not... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
