Great atmosphere, relaxed and professional service. Had a pretty dry duck with a heavy sauce that took away the flavor of the main. The wine was simply bad- not for wine drinkers this one...

The atmosphere in this restaurant was really nice, and we didn't even sit by the windows to enjoy the view everyone talks about. It feels like a real restaurant, not a tourist trap taking advantage of good real estate. I thought my food (the rosemary gnocchi) was pretty good, but my husband got the duck and didn't like it very... More

The food and service was great. The view from the window was beautiful with foggy castle. The food selection and the friendliness of the service were all great.

It is one thing to be delighted with an unusual menu and quite another to be faced with choices between several mains spoiled by eccentric combinations of ingredients. Unless you don't care what your food tastes like perhaps you should look elsewhere. Disappointing. Although the staff was pleasant and helpful.

After being seated near an exceptionally loud group, we asked to be moved. I'm definitely not a quiet girl myself, but they were so loud I could hardly hear my friend sitting right across from me! After being moved once, still near these people but definitely quieter, we were moved again by our waitress to another seat they said was... More

Sit in the alcove if you can - comfy cushions and a bit of privacy. Lots of smart business customers when we were there, but the restaurant was very accommodating to our kids too.

We always take our visitors to The Outsider for its stunning views of the castle, great location and diversity of its menu. It's high quality but cool and unpretentious. It's not too hard to get a last minute reservation here but definitely phone them two days in advance for larger groups. Ideal for all groups: couples, family, friends, and business.... More

I never miss this restaurant when I'm in Edinburgh. It's a little hard to find, especially since it doesn't have a website, but everything else about it is like eating in California. Super fresh vegetables, organic ingredients, trendy, fresh dining room--would be a good place to impress a first date. There is occasionally a little stiffness or something with the... More

To be frank we quite liked this find in Edinburgh. We enjoyed lunch there and then returned for dinner. The service was good and friendly and the menu was quite varied with a great selection. The food quality was very good and I have no trouble recommending the establishment for lunch or dinner. It is hard to understand why the... More

Here are the facts - Particularly good food, enjoyable red wine available by the glass (rare!), an exceptionally clean and modern interior with a great view of the castle and old town rooftops. Perfect venue for a relaxing long lunch with a few wines, which is exactly what we did!
