Stopped here after visiting Edinburgh Castle and very pleasantly surprised. Comfortable seating, great food and prompt service. Had mussels (large serving) and they were delicious. The view is of the castle and all and all a very good meal. Reasonable priced.

This is probably one of the hottest restaurant spots in Edinburgh! You cannot visit without a reservation. The food is fresh ad very tasty, a blend of natural ingredients and fresh ideas for a good meal. The staff are very attentive, positive, can be funny and work hard to ensure your visit is a good one. If you are lucky... More

This place is great! I booked a table for two and we were seated in this great wee corner booth. The service was quick and very friendly, and the food was super tasty. We had a lovely evening. It can be quite loud in there so I'm aware that we got lucky with our quiet wee corner, but great vibe.... More

Very busy place. Wait staff looked stressed but they did the best. Came after a long day in the Highlands since it was a few feet from the hotel. Many students and academic types. Boisterous atmosphere. My wife had the grilled fish on skewers and I had a ribeye. Both well done but nothing exceptional. Reasonable prices and centrally located.

I have been to the Outsider 3or 4 times before over the years but after my last visit I will never be going back We were crammed in at the stairs with a screen behind us to hide the stairs which intruded on our space - My husband asked for a beer and it took 20mins for it to appear,two... More

We went for a saturday lunch and the atmosphere is amazing... Really nice decoration and nice light. The presentation of the menu is confusing and poor... It was no clear for the main plates. Desert really nice (strawberry sponge with custard). The waitress could do it much better (was like if I had to ask her pardon to work in... More

We chose The Outsider because it was close to a Festival venue, so as a party of five we were not surprised to find the restaurant already crowded when we arrived; we were a touch apprehensive, having read several reviews which criticised the service. But we were immediately welcomed and were very quickly seated at a table. Service was friendly,... More

I've been here several times, most recently for my daughter's graduation meal. The food is varied and the recipes are interesting without being up themselves. Ambience is great and the staff are good whilst being informal. The prices are very good for what you get.

Great venue for lunch. Relaxed atmosphere, interesting menu, good choice for vegetarians, helpful young staff, can linger -no sense of being rushed away. Only drawback - difficult to see the sign from immediately outside - more visible from across the road.
