Visiting From Overseas

Waited for 10 minutes just to be seated. 3 different waitresses walked past us without even saying hello. Ordered a large pizza and it came with very minimal toppings. It was tasty enough. Ordered a coleslaw side salad for £3.95 and it came in THE smallest bowl in the world. 3 mouthfuls and it was... read more

We arrived in Edinburgh on Easter and needless to say, we got a late start on dinner. Many restaurants were closed or closing early, but Pizza Express was open and to our surprise the food was pretty darn good! We had a great waiter, didn't get his name but he was REALLY tall and the nicest guy ever! The service... More

Neither good nor bad. Pizza Express is pretty consistent and the food here was much the same as elsewhere. The staff were delightful and service was pretty quick. Given that there must be 100 restaurants of all kinds within 10 minutes' walk, you might decide to go somewhere else - although the nearest restaurants are Prezzo four doors along and... More

Food was good and the service excellent but the meal cost double the price of Prezzos and Bella Italia just doors away for identical meals (my children have limited tastes in food) so wasn't worth the additional price.

Staff were great with the kids. Food to normal good standards. The children love having the kids menu where the get three courses followed by a 'pretend coffee'.

Great pizza for your dollar. After seeing the Royal Yacht we were looking for a quick bite to eat and found this place. The atmosphere was peaceful and clean. The staff was friendly and quick. The price was about 29 euros. I would say give this place a shot if you like pizza.

It was a quite disappointing experience. The service was poor and we were treated as they wanted us to leave as quickly as possible even though the restaurant wasn't busy at all and closure time wasn't even close. The pizza is good but not worth the price, especially if you consider how small they are. I can definetely recommend this... More

We went in with no expectations. We were tired, the restaurant had satisfied-looking patrons, so we went in. The experience was very pleasant. The wait staff were friendly. For the three of us, We ordered dough balls, two dinner salads, and a pizza. In a pinch I'd go to Pizza Express again. But with Martone's closer to our hotel than... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
