Absolutely delicious. Can recommend the monkfish with coconut sauce and sticky rice. Really great service too.

The food here is delicious. The restaurant is very cute. The service was good although the wine waiter slightly over-bearing. Not the cheapest but worth it for the quality of the food and for a special occasion.

Passorn means Angel, and this Angelic Thai place had only a single availability between 6-8PM on a Friday night. So, the expectations were running high. Unfortunately, although it was indeed quite good, it just did not live up to expectations. First, the service is flawless, but in that flawlessness, there is something lacking in putting the client at ease. The... More

The hotel we were staying in in Edinburgh recommended this restaurant for us. It's a tiny little place, not what I expected. When we arrived, the table that was booked for us was still being used, so we were sat on a table near the toilets. We were however told that we would be moved as soon as the other... More

Visited Edinburgh on a business trip. Found this gem on tripadvisor and was not disappointed. Excellent food, delicious Tom Yum soup and one of the best (and spiciest) main dishes I've ever had in a Thai restaurant. Staff were very friendly. I'll definitely visit Passorn again when I'm back in Edinburgh.

This is by far some of the best Thai food I have eaten. The restaurant is relaxing and comfortable and the service great. However this restaurant is seriously expensive and the portions are small and seem to be getting small. £22 for one king prawn, two scallops and a small piece of monkfish was expensive and poor value. Rice and... More

I've been to Thai restaurants around the world, and this is, by far, my favourite. The owner is lovely (I've been here several times and can't credit one recent reviewer saying she was rude, I've certainly never seen her be anything but courteous!), and the staff are very efficient and polite. It's wise to book, as they are often full,... More

The food was ok and perhaps I would rate this place higher if it wasn't for the service. The woman in charge was extremely unpleasant to her staff, and our waiter's attitude made us feel uncomfortable. There is a difference between being polite and servile.

We are genuinely baffled by your, rather odd, comments and your skewed perceptions regarding the manner and demeanour of the owner and her staff. Thankfully, your supposed insights are not shared by our many regulars who praise her friendly and welcoming attitude of Cindy and enjoy the courteous, attentive service from our staff. More

Our first visit to Passorn and won't be our last. Service and food were both great. Ian the owner was really friendly and attentive. The Lamb shank was to die for, a real taste sensation.

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighborhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighborhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
