This is by far some of the best Thai food I have eaten. The restaurant is relaxing and comfortable and the service great. However this restaurant is seriously expensive and the portions are small and seem to be getting small. £22 for one king prawn, two scallops and a small piece of monkfish was expensive and poor value. Rice and... More

I've been to Thai restaurants around the world, and this is, by far, my favourite. The owner is lovely (I've been here several times and can't credit one recent reviewer saying she was rude, I've certainly never seen her be anything but courteous!), and the staff are very efficient and polite. It's wise to book, as they are often full,... More

The food was ok and perhaps I would rate this place higher if it wasn't for the service. The woman in charge was extremely unpleasant to her staff, and our waiter's attitude made us feel uncomfortable. There is a difference between being polite and servile.

Our first visit to Passorn and won't be our last. Service and food were both great. Ian the owner was really friendly and attentive. The Lamb shank was to die for, a real taste sensation.

A late night stop after the movies, albeit we booked ahead just in case. Arriving on time we had to stand around (there is no seating) for 10mins for a table to vacate, in a small restaurant looming over others waiting never looks good and you can feel rather awkward. When we were seated the waiting staff were very polite... More

What a great meal . To be honest Thai isn't my favourite but the other half loves it so I just follow on. And to her credit she picked another winner Food is to die for and also staff and management do a great job

The food was terrific, one of the best thai curries I've eaten. The service was impeccable, polite and attentive waiting staff. Sadly, the whole experience was ruined by the manager or owner (older scottish man). I overheard him swearing at a member of staff, which to me, as a customer, is unforgivable. The young man who was treated so abominably... More

Our apologies for any offence you may have taken, but any offensive language you claim to have heard could not have come from the owner to staff. The owner is a young Thai woman. There may have been some sharp words between two staff members, for whatever reason. Your further claims are totally without foundation. More

I love Thai green curry, it's probably my favourite meal ever and I have it all the time now after falling in love with it in Thailand, however this was the spiciest one I have ever had! It was described on the menu as 'hottest thai green curry' so when asked what spiciness level I wanted on a scale of... More

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighborhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighborhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
