Warm and friendly with great food

I called in as a single person and had an amazing goats cheese salad with plenty of cheese and nuts and tasty ingredients. Very enjoyable and with good service.

My wife and I were struggling to find somewhere to eat on a friday evening, having travelled up for the weekend and not having booked anywhere. Although Ecco Vino was full, they were happy for us to come in and wait for a few minutes whilst a table became available, and then offered to move us again later when a... More

We stumbled across this little gem whilst working in Edinburgh and you could see the atmosphere from the window. Service was fantastic and food delightful. A great menu with plenty to choose from, a jolly rustic atmosphere. Definitely recommended!

We loved Ecco vino - great location near old town chambers. We enjoyed sharing a couple bottles of wine and plates to share after a long day sightseeing. Super friendly people and a small quiet little pocket on a quaint street at the end of the close.

I have eaten and drank in Ecco Vino on several occasions and have never been disappointed. It makes having wet, grey, Scottish weather almost worthwhile as it makes the snuggness of this hostelry even more apparent. If you want a real treat on a dreich afternoon than step in and order the cheese plate with a large glass of Pinot... More

Intended to eat in a nearby Indian restaurant - but it was almost deserted. Went into Ecco Vino instead. It was an excellent decision. Food was very good, service was nice and the atmosphere was nice and relaxed. Highly recommended.

We have visited here several times over a few years, usually for a snack and drink on our way to Waverley Station . On this visit to Edinburgh we made a point of going to Ecco Vino for lunch. We chose our food from the specials menu, I chose to have a starter of scallops as a main course and... More

Good wine and food. Quick stroll from Waverley so a much nicer place to spend a few minutes pre-train. A-Mano primitivo, pasta and soup excellent.

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
