Great Camembert starter

Rare to find these days, but it's a wine bar that actually specialises in wine....beer served too, but most patrons prefer to choose from the extensive list of reasonably priced wines. Lunch with self and wife, limited food choice although the food was really nice. Limited choice was more than likely because they were advertising for a chief. Did have some nice specials and wine list was impressive.

Some friends took us for a drink and nibbles early Saturday evening. The wine menu was fabulous. We also had olives, bread and tasty dips. Such a lovely atmosphere. Really enjoyed it.

I had a chorizo salad but have been a few times and had risotto or pasta all of which have been good. You can't book a table at the weekend but I've managed to never wait more than a few minutes. The wine is good too. But the best thing about ecco vino is the atmosphere, nice lighting and cosy.... More

We should have booked something for a Saturday night in Edinburgh - we came across this wine bar/restaurant by chance and thought it might be OK. It was busy and fairly noisy and the staff were running about all over the place. But we ordered our drinks and had a look at the menu. We started with the Charcuterie Plate... More

We stumbled upon this place when walking around Edinburgh. We liked the look of the menu so had lunch. The service was great. The waitress and chef were both lovely. For starters we had bruchetta and soup, both of which were delicious. The ingredients were fresh and packed full of flavour. Mains we had melanzane parmigiana and creamy penne. The... More

Called in here as close to hotel and didn't want to travel far. The place was full- a good sign for a Sunday night. Only one waitress on for about 25 covers so service was a little slow but it she was delightful and helpful. My daughter asked for a plain tomato sauce on pasta which they mustered up no... More

Ecco Vino never fails to delight! A fantastic range of wines and the most delicious freshly cooked rustic Italian food in this little wine bar; this is the first time I have taken my Italian friend who is exceptionally difficult to please food wise but even she was impressed! Whether it's something to eat or just out for a drink... More

Went there with a friend to have some wine. Waiters were very professional and friendly, advised us on wine, and it was an excellent choice. We also got olives bowl - very delicious. I'll definetly will be back for food and more wine :)) I highly recommend this place.

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
