Tasty food - tremendous cellar

The staff in eccovino are exceedingly friendly and helpful. The food is excellent but the choice of wines is mind blowing. The only down side is that service can be a bit slow when busy but to counbteract that the food is freshly cooked and presented.

Loved this low key, chilled wine bar. We were too late to have any of the food, but the snacks were great and the wines recommended by the friendly staff very tasty indeed (and not too expensive!). Would definitely go back.

My partner and I thought we would stop off for food and drink, food was nothing to bang on about, pretty poor to be honest As for the staff were to busy sitting outside in the sun and not bothered about the customers. Our glasses "wine" & "water" were dirty and the table was all sticky. It seemed that the... More

This was exactly what we were looking for: an intimate, interesting, comfortable spot for a late meal close to our hotel in Old Town. Best prawns appetizer I've ever tasted, and the asparagus pancetta was awesome! There were so many dishes on the menu that we wanted to try that we came back the next night, and we weren't disappointed.... More

I lunched here today at the suggestion of my hotel concierge. It is a lovely den of tasty light food with an excellent selection of wines. Eclectic music and attentive waiter made my solo lunch a very pleasant relaxing experience.

they were very crowded and due to an oversight we had not booked anywhere so ended up here. the service was friendly and accommodating. however, i was foolish enough to order the steak off the specials board. it was grey - not even sure how they managed to grill it without getting a bit of colour on it, and i... The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere. It is very relaxing. The food was inventive and cooked with care. The service was friendly however we felt a little forgotten about after our main meals had been cleared. This in no way detracted from the quality of the food and overall experience. Highly recommended.

I like places where you don't have excessive menu list with hundreds of food positions! Here you have a limited choice of dishes but everything is delicious and you can be sure it's fresh!Lovely atmosphere, outdoor space for sunny days. Really enjoyed it, would come back many times!

Lunch with self and wife, limited food choice although the food was really nice. Limited choice was more than likely because they were advertising for a chief. Did have some nice specials and wine list was impressive.

Rare to find these days, but it's a wine bar that actually specialises in wine....beer served too, but most patrons prefer to choose from the extensive list of reasonably priced wines. They also have a good food menu. We were dining elsewhere but decided to share the Camembert platter, just because it looked so tempting- it didn't disappoint - a... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
