Nice place for drinks

Had drinks here (no food). Started with a local brewed beer - Caesar August lager/IPO from tap. That was quite tasty and something I would go for again. Afterwards I had a glass of wine. I asked about the Carmeniere 2013 as I previously had some great experiences here. The waiter was honest saying... read more

Our last lunch in Edinburgh before we went home. And the best we had! Good fresh food, very tasty, nice place, many wines to choose with the food. After a lot of (high calorie) pub food (very good food, but it felt as all the same in every place) we were very happy to have some fresh ingredients, very tasty.... More

Another good visit to Ecco Vino. Their wine list is extensive; we picked a bottle of one of the the cheaper of the "bolder" reds, it was a good quality wine. Food was delicious - a pasta dish and a risotto, well pricde at £9.95 each. One minor quibble - that the risotto had ingredients different from those on the... More

Food was ok, lot of it premade and heat up when ordered. Chef didn't wash his hands between preparing raw food and other foods...we noticed as sitting close to the open kitchen. So trying to ignore this. Then waiter got our drinks wrong and he seemed a bit annoyed at himself, also got 1 of the 3 mains wrong...muat had... More

Visited Ecco Vino spontaneously, as we pulled our luggage through the streets of Edinburgh, looking to grab lunch before our train. What luck! The ambiance is nice, although definitely more romantic than you'd seek out for lunch. We all enjoyed our meals - bruschetta trio, broccoli soup ... But the pizza (goat cheese!) and beef stew were the real winners.... More

My husband and I were looking forward to revisiting this small restaurant again after being here in Edinburgh last July but we were sadly disappointed in our meals last night. The smoked salmon and pesto pasta was lacking in flavour and had a tiny tasteless pieces of smoked salmon in it. My husband had the seafood chowder from the specials... More

Loved this low key, chilled wine bar. We were too late to have any of the food, but the snacks were great and the wines recommended by the friendly staff very tasty indeed (and not too expensive!). Would definitely go back.

The staff in eccovino are exceedingly friendly and helpful. The food is excellent but the choice of wines is mind blowing. The only down side is that service can be a bit slow when busy but to counbteract that the food is freshly cooked and presented.

My partner and I thought we would stop off for food and drink, food was nothing to bang on about, pretty poor to be honest As for the staff were to busy sitting outside in the sun and not bothered about the customers. Our glasses "wine" & "water" were dirty and the table was all sticky. It seemed that the... More

This was exactly what we were looking for: an intimate, interesting, comfortable spot for a late meal close to our hotel in Old Town. Best prawns appetizer I've ever tasted, and the asparagus pancetta was awesome! There were so many dishes on the menu that we wanted to try that we came back the next night, and we weren't disappointed.... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
